Romney is really reaching at this point.

2012-09-26 10:48:43 AM
disrespectiveful?

I give up. I give right, the fark, up.

2012-09-26 11:42:35 AM
The new 30-second ad, titled "Mute Button," uses an anecdote from the new Bob Woodward book "The Price of Politics" that shows Pelosi muting President Barack Obama while he was on a speaker phone during negotiations for the economic stimulus package in the early days of Obama's term.

Seriously? This is the best you have?

2012-09-26 12:01:40 PM
This is pretty sad. I doubt it's going to sway ANYONE. Waste of campaign funds.

The disrespectivity of this sickitates me.

Vodka Zombie: disrespectiveful?

It's a perfectly cromulent word

2012-09-26 12:33:57 PM
I thought the mute button allowed you to keep hearing what the person was saying but the person on the other side can't hear what YOU are saying.

Class act, Republicans, class act.

Keep on digging, you're bound to reach the bottom of the hole soon.

I LOL'd.

Derp? You press "mute" in a conference call when YOU don't want to be heard on the other side. So Pelosi talks, presses mute, Obama talks, he presses mute, etc. How dumb does Romney think his supporters are... oh, right.

2012-09-26 12:34:31 PM
Even if it did happen, who hasn't muted a business conference call to discuss something with another person who is there physically with you?

Yeah what does that Watergate reporter know about anything anyway.

*facepalmitvity*

this is why we can't have nice thing, Romney. Fire your staff, do a massive shakeup. It's the only way to be sure

Every conference call sees the mute button utilized at least once, so you can confer with the people right next to you w/o interrupting the rest of the call. A businessman like Rmoney should know this.

Brubold: Yeah what does that Watergate reporter know about anything anyway.

We aren't necessarily disputing that she may have pressed mute, we're saying the commercial's implication that it means she was tired of listening to Obama when it would have only prevented him from hearing something coming from her end of the call.

Or are they saying it is disrespectful because she muted it to rip one and wave it at the receiver or something?

I did that very thing this morning.

// but I'm a filthy Obama voter
// you can't mute the socialism, Mal

Probably a lot about things that happened 40 years ago. Even if Pelosi was using some strange non-standard mute button that muted the president while on a conference call, what is the big deal? When conversing over phones or conference calls sometimes you have to mute the speaker in order to do something else. It's only disrespectful if she did it with the explicit purpose of ignoring him for her own satisfaction. Frankly that seems way more improbable than her just muting herself.

Btw... I hear that book is phenomenal and essentially tells the world what cock Eric Cantor is.

You mean they haven't reached it yet? I'm guessing they'll do if they make a representation of Obama kicking, killing and eating a baby (and use it as a talking point).

Judging by the FB comments at TFA it only seems to work if you have a preconceived notion that Obama is a bloviating narcissist. Then even the action of muting yourself is seen as Queen Liberal slapping King Liberal right in his super-ego.

For us who live in the reality based community, see it as another boring day at the office working with conference call systems.

This sheds some light on it. It sounds like Pelosi hit mute so Obama could ramble on while she and Reid got back to working numbers.

Geez! People are this stupid??? In conference calls people mute their own phones unless they are talking as a courtesy to the other people in the call so they don't hear any background noises or conversations which can be very disruptive.

Pelosi doesn't. She said history/historic at least 3 or 4 times while describing presidential conference calls. She seemed pretty lubed up by it.

I can only assume that the target demographic of this ad is people who have never used a speakerphone and only know the term "mute" from their TV remote.

Upon further reflection, I think this ad is targeted correctly and factually correct for the intended audience. In my experience at work, the Johnny-Lunchpails(IT support guys) who occupy the cubicles across the hall from me talk loudly about how much they hate demoncrats, near constantly. We contractors, naturally, don't say jack-shiat about politics (I'm not at work today, btw). I can't imagine anything worse to those folks across the hall then to have their pearls of wisdom muted, especially by themselves. It is their swore duty to let everyone know how they think.

The notion that someone would mute themselves for the sake of a salubrious conference call is as socialistic as it gets.

Wait, don't mute buttons keep the other person from hearing your conversation, not you from hearing them over the phone?
