Can we go back to not caring about this region?

Seriously, it costs us trillions of dollars and thousands of lives to engage them - and we see no benefit to it. Maybe we should try ignoring them for 5-10 years and see how it goes?

"Indigenous drone". I like it. It's a nice woody-sounding word. Indigenous DROOOOOOOOOOOONE! Pert thighs, loose woman, indigenous DROOOOOOOOOONE!

Oh noes! If you can build a plane you can build a drone. Who the fark cares?

Hell, you can go on amazon and buy yourself a cheap model drone for $299 that works with your smart phone.

Link

This article is like saying "Iran invented a new kind of bullet". It's not that impressive and it's not a game changer.

Actually, it's the gutted remains of the US drone; patched up with camel dung, shaved down, and it's technically just a big damn kite now.

I'm more likely to belive that it was a 'malfunction' and by malfunction I mean, deliberatly crashed and not taken out by a missle so that Iran could reverse engineer it, taking all code including what ever virus was hiding.

It's like a modern day trojan horse.

That way, while they are examining the code, a trojan is silently infecting their systems, propogating along their networks. Maybe even have some hidden kill command that would get installed onto their own version of a drone.

Um...we tried that, it didn't work out so well. See, they have this book, that says they need to convert everyone to Islam and eradicate all those that will not convert. They really like their book, and a fair percentage are downright zealots about it.

Is it really a drone if Sahid "pilot's" it with a controller such as this, and has to have line-of sight? I think not. I think there might be a typo in there...perhaps 2000 ft operating distance is more on the mark.

/The Russians are having trouble building a drone
//The Iranians having a drone before Russia seems rather implausible

Yes, but to be fair, the government has all the guns and soldiers. And whether it's a revolution or a theater shooting, nobody wants to be the one who is posthumously revered as the One Who Took the First Bullet, you know?

Totalitarian governments don't fall to riots in the streets. They fall when either their army mutinies (e.g. Liberia), or they're assaulted by an actual rebel army. (e,g. Libya) Angry disorganized people can't do it alone.

Let's see

They keep electing imadinnerjacket
They have not done anything about Imam rule
10,000...20,000...100,000 show up in the streets for funerals of known terrorist
In much of the middle east, suicide bombers are revered as martyrs and heroes

Building an autonomous drone is a trivial exercise today. It can be done with a couple hundred bucks of hardware and the software is public domain. Yes, this includes GPS and inertial navigation.

Building something you can fly from halfway around the world with realtime video feed and weapons targeting...that's a little more involved.

Building the satellite network you need to support that drone...well, now you're in the big leagues.
