My husband has a shadowbox from his years in the Navy. Because most of his service was as a submariner, most of his stuff was classified. The box was going to be a birthday surprise, so we got his brother, a retired enlisted sailor, to help with getting it set up right. After all the years of being a jerk to my husband for not making it to retirement, the BIL had to eat a lot of crow. Apparently, my husband got a bunch of awards that his brother never got in his career, and my husband never said much about any of it.

Shadowboxes are wonderful, but military ones are precious.

Hell I've got dozens of those. Metal of Honor too and a Flying Cross, and Titanium and Platinum Stars. None of that cheap Bronze, Silver and Gold stuff. Oh and a diamond encrusted Kevlar tiara.

Did you get them in the Core?

Hells Yeah. I was with the Green Berets, Special Unit Battalions.Commando Airborne Tactics... Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion.

You were a STUB? Man, they did some serious shiat. I treated one of the guys from STUB Team 3 for gingivitis he got while on a SLURP mission in Ong Fuk. Bad stuff, and painful too, but with his STUB training, he just sat cool and still while I trebbed out his gums with a #3 stem-probe. Never saw a guy do that awake, let alone without anaestesia.
