"See, Libs? 100% of us agree with us completely. And we agree with ourselves almost always, with the exception of Quantum Romney it's 100% too! Get with the program and agree with us, like we do!"

That's just dumb. I trust public polls more than internal ones. And I look just as hard at the other side's internal polling data as I do my own, or the public polls.

Of course, I'm just working on a local Mayoral race, so what do I know?

Yes, Romney's inside the margin of error on most individual polls of the national electorate.
Unfortunately for Romney, the margin of the aggregate of those national polls is lower than their individual margins.
Also unfortunately, he's not even inside the margin of error on the individual state level polls of what were thought to be the most promising swing states.

And we've hit neither the Presidential debates nor any of the October Surprises.

Actually Romney is pretty hated even by his base, so gauging his support among die hard GOP voters does let him know if he's at least treading water.

Relying on internal polls instead of public polls is always a good idea.

If you're trying to prevent your financial backers from jumping off of your sinking ship.

Romney is wise to avoid reality. Reality, after-all, is pretty strongly pro-Obama.

Don't campaigns usually rely on their own polling?
