js34603: Olympic Trolling Judge: These rankings are supposed to give an idea of who's better going into next week, right? So how are we ranked higher than the Steelers? Really? Even after everything that's happened, who here would take the Bengals over the Steelers?

In Cicinnati? I'd take the Bengals and I'm a Steelers fan. Cinci is on the way up and we're on the way down.

In Pittsburgh I'd take the Steelers. But the Steelers losses are way worse than Cinci's and the Steelers win was over a Jets team that might not make 8-8.

I dunno. I mean, we got stomped by a Baltimore team that it turns out wasn't as good as advertised, we only beat The Freaking Browns by a touchdown... at home, and with less screwy officiating the game against Washington could have easily gone to OT. But you're probably right to take the home-field split. And hey, we're ranked next to each other, so even the ESPN people might really have it too close to call.

I don't see the Texans making it through a full schedule healthy enough to get to the end.
Ravens are missing a quick short passing game. Pats couldn't get at Flacco, but blitzing teams will tee off on him. If they can survive that, they're the SB winners this year.

netweavr: Mundy had two fine-able hits alone. I'm curious if he gets a free pass on the hit on Myers (which caused a concussion) due to the focus on the hit on Heyward-Bey (which caused a concussion and a neck-strain)

I don't remember the other one. Of course a concussion means shiat - it was either an illegal hit or it wasn't. You can get all the legal concussions you want. And of course if you hit them in the head or are judged to be defenseless there need not be a penalty or a concussion to trigger the fine. We'll see - they seem to be busy over there these days. I saw a bunch of fineable hits last weekend - they seem to apply the fines in a somewhat arbitrary fashion according to the squeaky wheel method. If there's no penalty and the announcers don't make a big deal about it you never hear about it again. Here's a stat out of my ass - I bet they don't fine more than two out of ten guys for helmet to helmet collisions. i see them all the time.

Alright, Saints fans.

I'm going to need you all to quit your biatching. (Before I proceed, if you're not a Saints fan and just want to spit vitriol, shove it up your ass. This is for my fellow members of a beleaguered Who Dat Nation.)

Here's the thing: The team is in a very unique position. The team is minus a head coach, assistant head coach (through Week 6), and GM (through Week 8). They're down cornerbacks. The defensive scheme has changed altogether. On top of that, there's this [CENSORED] situation with officiating affecting the entire league. Short of firings and such, I don't know of a team having ever been in a position like this before. Things are going to look a little less than good.

Should the team be giving up leads to teams like the Chiefs? Not ordinarily, but again, officiating (amirite Pack fans?). Should the defensive side of the ball operate like a sieve? Not ordinarily, but heaven forbid a player hit someone too hard, lest they scream BOUNTY$#$@! all over the place. Should the offensive line act like Jay Cutler's in the backfield? Uh...no. Not even close. However, this is what we as fans are being handed by the league. We're being given a neutered team. Without Sean Payton's Magic Card of Plays, the team doesn't look quite the same. Spagnuolo acts like he's allergic to the blitz. Special teams hasn't been all that special, to be honest.

It's okay. We'll get through this.

Maybe the team put too much money on the offensive side of the ball, because man alive is the efense sucking. It's okay though; we've been through worse. Natural (and unnatural *cough*BP*cough*) disasters, politics, and the city's police department aside, we've been through worse. We as fans will make it through this season. It will impact the city's tourism and hospitality industry, because not many people are going to willingly put themselves through what comes out on the field on Sundays (and the off Monday or Thursday). It's unfortunate that we in the city have to suffer for one man's desire to play deity with the life of a team, but it is what it is. As it is, it'll take some time to recover from this, especially with the loss of a second round draft pick next year.

For now, however, we'll just band together and push our way through this season, and the next, and hopefully come back to some form of relevance in 2014. It must be nice to be able to fark over an entire region of football fans from such a lofty position. This isn't similar in any way to a team uprooting in the middle of the night, because they're then gone and not there to fester in a less-than-functional situation.

Again, whatever. We got this.

Complaining about NFL schedule strength is like... I don't know what that's like actually. Pretty much all the schedules are pretty hard. Sure, sometime you get lucky and schedule a division that has a bunch of crap teams at once - but them's the breaks. It's not like anyone actually knows year to year who's gonna be good and who's gonna suck - the early going of this season illustrates that rather perfectly.

It's realistic assessment of player strengths and weaknesses versus that of their opponents over the length of the regular season by analyzing and adapting the logistical data of past performance indicative to the outcome, which probability dictates, is an aggregate measure of the aptitude of all parts of a team dynamic to discern the probability of placement?

Sure. But having just googled NFL strength of schedule 2012 I saw three different ratings for the 2012 Vikes. I saw a 7 and an 8 and a 9. And if we look in three more places we'll see three more numbers. And I think all of them are basing the rank based on last year's results, which are largely meaningless.

Speaking of which, the Browner hit on Jennings last night. Intentional blow to the head of a defenseless receiver on a throw away play for them. Of course complete derpitude has overshadowed this, but during a normal season that would have lead to plenty of outrage.
