It certainly is for MADD.

Ah yes, the organization that went from anti-DUI to a neo-prohibitionist movement... so much so they actually forced-out the original founder for not being extreme enough.

We all have to keep in mind, this was a convergence of a couple of things: Up here we have a history of breaking things and killing people after a couple of drinks.
1. At that very location, a New York Jets fan was thrown off the back. Of the stadium. He might have deserved it, but we don't need dead Jets fans bleeding their filth on our concrete. Arrest any potential outlander who may be thrown from the back of the stadium before it gets ugly. The new stadium has a foot bridge, a couple stories high, no high fence or safety net. Recipe for disaster.

2. Where is Bruce Springsteen from? Would you not agree that the Boss himself, likely a Giants or Jets fan, is at risk in Foxboro of being thrown off of our stadium? Foxboro is NOT Your Hometown, Bruce.

3 The country music concert: We can all agree that anyone listening to country music deserves to be thrown off the aforementioned footbridge. There were 60,000 people there! I'd happily be the one tossing these buffoons, but can you imagine the blood of 60,000 country music fans staining our stadium? Of course not. They're gross and their blood is like poison. The police were right to make an early example of these 1000 mouth breathing jerkoffs and keep the rest of the herd in check.

/they actually were caged like a herd, people were climbing the fence and some were escaping. People paid whatever for the tickets, $100 for parking, missed the shows, and people missed rides home. Cops can be heavy handed, but the equal and opposite and somewhat deserving group consists of a few attendees who ruin it for everyone else.

As somebody that was in protective custody during the recent Contryfest concert there, I completely agree with this and will jump on any class action ASAP if announced. The cops were completely ridiculous and out of line and I really could not believe that in any way this was American. My respect for all cops dropped that day, as it was quite apparent that cops really do not know nor respect common rights and that they actually revel in trampling them.

Actually, the powers that be are adding a new crime to their DUI enforcement activities. Breathing 0.05 is now called "Impaired Driving." They have your car towed and hit you with a $250 fine plus towing and storage charges. Your cab ride home puts your financial set-back at $500 or more. Check with your local authorities for details.

A typical DUI costs $10,000 out here on the left coast. Industries have grown up around the phenom. You got your lawyers, and the mandatory traffic school scam, community service B.S. and a hike in your insurance rates.

The whole DUI thing is not about public safety, but simply a fund-raising device for local and state governments, lawyers, etc.

What about the smoking ban in taverns and pubs? One can drink inside but you can't smoke, so you go outside where you can smoke but can't drink. At my local joint it is sometimes hard to get a drink, because the waitress and bartender are outside smoking. (Meanwhile, down the block at the Korean Bar-B-que place, every table has frigging hibachi smoking away! With vent hoods, yeah, but the place is stilled filled with smoke.)

The hard line on DUI and smoking is killing the bar/restaurant business. The current depression isn't helping, but what a priggish society. Pro Tip: If you do go out for a few, park far away from the pub. My minimum is three blocks. Call it 0.08 of prevention.

Yikes, I feel for the plaintiff in this case. The guy organized a private bus from Maine, probably spent a lot of money to make it happen, and was .07 when he was arrested. He was probably held in some makeshift holding cell in the stadium where he could just barely make out what songs were being played. Concert over he gets shuttled to jail before being released with no charges.

Man would I be pissed.

From the urban dictionary page for "foxboro"

3. Foxboro

A smallish town in Massachusetts, roughly halfway between Boston and Providence. Home of the New England Patriots football franchise. The bedrock of the town's population are families that fled there from various Irish neighborhoods ahead of the busing crisis and assorted other encounters with people duskier than themselves. Before WWII, the population was split between Yankee Protestants and Irish immigrants who came to work in factories. Recently, Foxboro has become a bedroom community for yuppies, who decided that the "urban" part of their description isn't any fun anymore once they realized that meant little Madison and Adin would have to go to school with Tamika and Juan. The things these population elements have in common is parochialism, small-mindedness and virulent racism, all of which are prominent in Foxboro's character.

That sounds like a horrible combination. The only thing a good scotch should have mixed with it is possibly ice.

/I will still have to try scotch and mountain dew on ice tonight just to confirm it's as terrible as it sounds...

Ahh yes, drinking at Guillette. County Fest or whatever its called is to blame for the nazi policeing of booze now. That event got outta control a few years consecutive, and the town had enough. The Big Razor is home to Patriots Place, a huge outdoor mall complete with bars. Those bars wont even serve anyone who has left a game or cocert event. I was denied service at Bar Louie after leaving an AC DC show that i arrived late for, and they had turned off the taps at the show when the headlining band took the stage. Another bullshiat policy. So i was sober and told at the bar they couldnt serve me because an event was going on. Foxboro f*cking sucks.
