Isn't this the ultimate goal of continually lowering the BAC limits for DUI? They can't make it illegal to buy or drink alcohol, but they can make it illegal to have it in your body.

CSB time.

A cop detained a guy in a motorcycle for parking in the wrong spot (at the side of the road) in a residential area I lived. The guy pointed out that every car on the block was parked the same way. So without missing the beat, he still gave the guy a ticket, and proceeded to make tickets to every single car in the block.

MrBallou: Isn't this the ultimate goal of continually lowering the BAC limits for DUI?

I don't think neo-prohibition groups like MADD are going to be able to get the BAC level reduced much below 0.08%. For starters, most states are already going bankrupt housing all of the people from the drug war. Moving to 0.06% is going to add to their correctional institution budget woes. You're also going to get a lot more people who protest their arrest claiming that they were not impaired, at least no more than you'd be when playing with the radio, talking on a cell phone or to a passenger, eating, drinking, ect... which is legal.

On a tangent, I hate how articles bring up that 0.08% is the "legal limit" when talking about incidents that have nothing to do with a vehicle. The only thing this guy was driving was his feet. Maybe they're trying to inform the reader using DUI as reference, but they always come off sounding like it is illegal to be in public with a 0.08% BAC.

Ahh yes, drinking at Guillette. County Fest or whatever its called is to blame for the nazi policeing of booze now. That event got outta control a few years consecutive, and the town had enough. The Big Razor is home to Patriots Place, a huge outdoor mall complete with bars. Those bars wont even serve anyone who has left a game or cocert event. I was denied service at Bar Louie after leaving an AC DC show that i arrived late for, and they had turned off the taps at the show when the headlining band took the stage. Another bullshiat policy. So i was sober and told at the bar they couldnt serve me because an event was going on. Foxboro f*cking sucks.

I will NEVER attend a music event at Gillette again. Pay over $100 to see Buffett, only to find the bars throughout the stadium shut down before the show even started? No margaritas in Margaritaville. Really?

Also, a big fark you to all the Kenney Chesney fans who can't have a good time without getting into 400 drunken brawls at every show. That's what prompted the asshole town board to nix the bars at Jimmy Buffett 2 weeks later.

And Mansfield is not going to be a mecca for parrot-heads much longer, I'm afraid. After the Gillette fiasco, JB has been doing shows at "Great Woods" (the lots open for the world's greatest tailgate party 6 hours before the show) but lately Fox Nightly Blues has been whipping up anti-good-time sentiment and the cops there are getting worse.

If you go, you HAVE to have a designated driver. Also, tailgate afterward as long as possible. Who wants to sit in traffic for an hour getting out of there. You might as well be having a good time instead.

That's my point. The law is really only intended for when you're driving, but it's being applied (with varying success) in other situations more and more often. Hence the article.

From the urban dictionary page for "foxboro"

3. Foxboro

A smallish town in Massachusetts, roughly halfway between Boston and Providence. Home of the New England Patriots football franchise. The bedrock of the town's population are families that fled there from various Irish neighborhoods ahead of the busing crisis and assorted other encounters with people duskier than themselves. Before WWII, the population was split between Yankee Protestants and Irish immigrants who came to work in factories. Recently, Foxboro has become a bedroom community for yuppies, who decided that the "urban" part of their description isn't any fun anymore once they realized that meant little Madison and Adin would have to go to school with Tamika and Juan. The things these population elements have in common is parochialism, small-mindedness and virulent racism, all of which are prominent in Foxboro's character.

Not to overgeneralize but every cop that has been, is, and will be in the force is a f*cktardian, Nazi-wannabe. They are useless, obstructionist and...most of all bullies - and 99% of those bullies are crooked as well.

Cops aren't heroes and deserve to be raked down in a volley of gunfire.

They're not your friends, either, so next time you're in an incident and the cop all chatty like says, "OK what happened here - tell your side of the story" just shut up unless you're 100% sure you are the victim. Then instead of arresting you the cops simply won't help you...ah, they might even arrest you.

Actually, the powers that be are adding a new crime to their DUI enforcement activities. Breathing 0.05 is now called "Impaired Driving." They have your car towed and hit you with a $250 fine plus towing and storage charges. Your cab ride home puts your financial set-back at $500 or more. Check with your local authorities for details.

A typical DUI costs $10,000 out here on the left coast. Industries have grown up around the phenom. You got your lawyers, and the mandatory traffic school scam, community service B.S. and a hike in your insurance rates.

The whole DUI thing is not about public safety, but simply a fund-raising device for local and state governments, lawyers, etc.

What about the smoking ban in taverns and pubs? One can drink inside but you can't smoke, so you go outside where you can smoke but can't drink. At my local joint it is sometimes hard to get a drink, because the waitress and bartender are outside smoking. (Meanwhile, down the block at the Korean Bar-B-que place, every table has frigging hibachi smoking away! With vent hoods, yeah, but the place is stilled filled with smoke.)

The hard line on DUI and smoking is killing the bar/restaurant business. The current depression isn't helping, but what a priggish society. Pro Tip: If you do go out for a few, park far away from the pub. My minimum is three blocks. Call it 0.08 of prevention.

As somebody that was in protective custody during the recent Contryfest concert there, I completely agree with this and will jump on any class action ASAP if announced. The cops were completely ridiculous and out of line and I really could not believe that in any way this was American. My respect for all cops dropped that day, as it was quite apparent that cops really do not know nor respect common rights and that they actually revel in trampling them.

Not to mention the fact that this is Springsteen, and they probably had to hold him on site until the end of the show before they could transport him to lock-up.

Springsteen shows go on for 4 - 5 hours or even longer.

2012-09-25 02:36:29 PM
We all have to keep in mind, this was a convergence of a couple of things: Up here we have a history of breaking things and killing people after a couple of drinks.
1. At that very location, a New York Jets fan was thrown off the back. Of the stadium. He might have deserved it, but we don't need dead Jets fans bleeding their filth on our concrete. Arrest any potential outlander who may be thrown from the back of the stadium before it gets ugly. The new stadium has a foot bridge, a couple stories high, no high fence or safety net. Recipe for disaster.

2. Where is Bruce Springsteen from? Would you not agree that the Boss himself, likely a Giants or Jets fan, is at risk in Foxboro of being thrown off of our stadium? Foxboro is NOT Your Hometown, Bruce.

3 The country music concert: We can all agree that anyone listening to country music deserves to be thrown off the aforementioned footbridge. There were 60,000 people there! I'd happily be the one tossing these buffoons, but can you imagine the blood of 60,000 country music fans staining our stadium? Of course not. They're gross and their blood is like poison. The police were right to make an early example of these 1000 mouth breathing jerkoffs and keep the rest of the herd in check.

/they actually were caged like a herd, people were climbing the fence and some were escaping. People paid whatever for the tickets, $100 for parking, missed the shows, and people missed rides home. Cops can be heavy handed, but the equal and opposite and somewhat deserving group consists of a few attendees who ruin it for everyone else.

Why the hell would a police officer want to take a gun into a crowded amphitheatre? In any shooting situation, you'd end up with results even worse than the incident at the Empire State building last month, where the cops accidentally shot NINE bystanders. Bringing a gun into an amphitheatre is just negligent.

GanjSmokr: /I will still have to try scotch and mountain dew on ice tonight just to confirm it's as terrible as it sounds...

That was my reaction to hearing that combo, and now it has replaced Coke as my go-to mixer.

stuffy: Looks like they borrowed that uniform from 1940s Germany.

I certainly won't deny that they were terrible for what they did, but the Germans did have style...

pute kisses like a man: downstairs: Everyday it seems there's an article confirming that I... as a drunk... made the right decision to move to a city where drinking in public is encouraged, and you can get booze at a drive-thru.

cheers!

/ feels the same way. having gone on vacation a few times in my life, drinking in other cities in america feels foreign and like you're a criminal just for existing. plus, no to-go cups.
// this country is so funny about freedom. it lets hardened killers run free because of a poorly executed search, but it completely derails any notion of freedom for someone who might be having a good time not hurting anybody.

Cheers back atcha!

You have no idea how many times I've been in bars outside New Orleans... had to go outside for a smoke (which I don't mind)... and brought out my drink.  The looks on people faces were like I was attempting murder!

caddisfly: Yikes, I feel for the plaintiff in this case. The guy organized a private bus from Maine, probably spent a lot of money to make it happen, and was .07 when he was arrested. He was probably held in some makeshift holding cell in the stadium where he could just barely make out what songs were being played. Concert over he gets shuttled to jail before being released with no charges.

Man would I be pissed.

The irony is that if he had been driving, they would have had to let him go.

MrBallou: TheBeastOfYuccaFlats: MrBallou: Isn't this the ultimate goal of continually lowering the BAC limits for DUI? They can't make it illegal to buy or drink alcohol, but they can make it illegal to have it in your body.

It certainly is for MADD.

This is why I only drink at home. Alone.

So alone...

can you freakin believe it? At the shopping area at that stadium there's a Toby Keith bar of some kind...In Massachusetts! The Mayans are on the way, kids.

/I would drive a bus off a cliff if Toby Keith were on it. I'd look him straight in the eye as we were going over the edge. Gritted teeth smile all the way down.

porkloin: What about the smoking ban in taverns and pubs? One can drink inside but you can't smoke, so you go outside where you can smoke but can't drink. At my local joint it is sometimes hard to get a drink, because the waitress and bartender are outside smoking.

The Larch: EdNortonsTwin: In the past the Irvine Amphitheatre (now Verizon Wireless Amp.) have kept police out by disallowing firearms in the venue alltogether. There may be some undercover in there, but somehow I doubt it. They probably wet their pants before they make it past the first few scary looking individuals.

Why the hell would a police officer want to take a gun into a crowded amphitheatre? In any shooting situation, you'd end up with results even worse than the incident at the Empire State building last month, where the cops accidentally shot NINE bystanders. Bringing a gun into an amphitheatre is just negligent.

Have you ever BEEN to Irvine Amphitheater? Just driving past it on the 405 South you need an armed escort and an armored personnel carrier.

This had better be one of the subtlest trolls I've ever seen.
Also, you do know that you're referencing the wrong song, right?

Sorry, I haven't slept well for over a week....

Perhaps an image of a jackboot on the back of a drunk's neck.
