"For those of us who would have voted in the primaries for, say, Ron Paul, why should we vote for you and not, say, libertarians or Vermin Supreme and the Pony Party or something like that?" a man from the audience asked during the question and answer session.

"Do you want Barack Obama to be re-elected?" Ryan asked. "Then don't vote for Ron Paul."

That wasn't the question. Why should they vote for YOU?

Ryan had a chance to hit that softball question out of the park, by talking up the reasons to vote for Romney, and instead he comes up with the lame "if you want Obama to win, vote for Paul". He didn't even answer the question ("why should we vote for Romney over Paul or the nutcase who wants to give everyone a pony?")!

When you can't articulate a policy difference between you and Vermin Supreme, you might as well pack up your campaign and go home. The Romney/Ryan campaign is setting a new low bar for incompetence on the national level.

I'm not a Paulestinian, but if I were, I think I'd be a bit pissed off at Romney/Ryan for not letting Ron Paul speak at the convention. For those wondering who "Vermin Supreme" is, he's a candidate for president who ran primarily in New Hampshire. He travels the country wearing a boot over his head and promising free ponies for all Americans.

Uh oh, now Mitt Romney might even lose Rafalca's vote.

All ponies aside, this is why I'm voting for Huntsman.

A vote for Ron Paul, Obama, and the tooth fairy have about the same chances of effecting this blood red state. So my vote will be for "less crazies in the GOP" and probably vote dem in a few down ticket races.

It would be nice, I'd love for it to happen and I support it, but once the fear factor involved with voting third party is gone, how much longer do you think the prominence of the democratic and republican parties would last?

That's why both sides keep third parties out of debates and engage in other suppressive behavior toward them.

As a Newt voter, I will not be voting for Romney.

I will not be voting for Obama, mind you, and no, Im not throwing my vote away.

Gary Johnson. Sure, he wont win, but its not like my vote in Illinois is going to amount to anything anyway, we are going blue. If enough people vote for the third party, a third party might actually get some coverage next cycle and we wont get stuck with two horrible choices again.

As a Libby lib lib, I'm amenable to his stances on science and technology.

Remember, in his lifetime his "Internet" tech boom would have been the space race - JFK said we were going to the moon, and less than a decade after we were. And all the time, we got the sort of science and R&D funding we need. The exact same kind of funding that could help train this labor force into smarter workers capable of building high-tech shiat instead of mindless drones who don't know their ass from a work instruction.

Now is Newt a pontificating, bloviating, and often hypocritical douchebag? Absolutely. Is "moon base" as close as a major GOP candidate is going to get to endorsing education? At this point in time, sadly, yes.

It's all posturing so they'll have any number of excuses to use after the lose the election. It must be the fault of ron paul, or the liberal media, or the weather, or wiccan spells, because it certainly couldn't be the fault of their crappy candidates.

As a sane voter, I don't think it'll be good for the country if the libertarians become the "sensible alternative" to the two-party system. Our political spectrum is skewed far enough to the right as it is. The LAST thing we need is for the Republicans' already extreme laissez-faire policies to look moderate.

I like that. I tried to convince my uncle (teabagger) to just not vote for Romney. He can't stand Romney, and there's almost no chance that Obama will lose WI. I told him that Obama will win this state, and there's nothing he can do about it. If he votes for Romney, even though he despises him, then the GOP won't get the message. I told him to vote for whoever he wants, write someone in if that's who he wants, and shoot an email to some people in the GOP telling them he wants better candidates, and they won't be getting his vote until they provide him with something worth voting for. It almost seemed as if he understood.

Q: Why should we vote for you?
A: Don't vote for Ron Paul or Obama will win.

Q: Why should we want you to win.
A: Because I am not Obama.

Q: What will you do if elected
A: I will fix everything and give out free ponies and lower taxes.

Q: How can you fix everything
A: When I am elected I will give you the details

The biggest problem in budgetary politics is that people either think Medicare/Medicaid don't need to be drastically reduced or they think the reductions in spending should come regardless of actual health care costs.

Where does opening Medicare up (with a premium for the under-55 crowd) to all come in? That doesn't reduce the program or the spending, but does appear to be a cheaper alternative than throwing good money after bad to keep an unsustainable model (seriously, does anyone think that "old people medical insurance" - insurance for the almost-by-definition uninsurable - won't keep getting more and more expensive regardless of savings?).

The entire nature of health insurance is bizarre. It's a model that depends on manipulation of the customer base and exclusion of those who need it most. A single payer system is pretty much necessary at this point.
