Weyerbacher Heresy is much more interesting IMO. Even if it's not a traditional Oktoberfest brew.

Punkin pie, liberty street brewing company, Plymouth Michigan.

Can only take it home in a growler.

Which I do, quite often.

Whiskey doesn't have a season, I win.

The Tumbler is good - having some now, and a great value at 12.99/12pk at Kroger. The best Sweetwater seasonals are yet to come- the Festival ale and Happy Ending stout are marvelous, extremely powerful winter beers.

No Spaten Octoberfest, no Fall beer list. For shame!

2012-09-24 08:59:14 PM
I've only tried the Sam Adams Oktoberfest, but I'd love to try some of those others. Unfortunately though, I've only seen 4 of those 16 brands sold at the stores around here. Thinking about beer right now, even though I'm still "working". Hmmmm beer...

I have 5 gallons of Oktoberfest in secondary fermentation right now that I'm going to keg this weekend. My taps have been dry for about two weeks. This needs to change.

I love their Old Heathen beer. Last weekend I tried the Imperial Pumpkin Ale which was really good. Nice strong cinnamon-y flavor.

Nice, I'm drinking a Victory Festbier right now. Love Oktoberfest marzen style. Also looking forward to trying all the fresh-hopped harvest beers. Plus, another Victory brew that arrives closer to December, Moonglow Weizenbock.

Out of those I've only tried Tumbler and the Sam Adams. Both aren't bad. For Oktoberfest beers I prefer Paulaner. I'd try some new stuff but I just spent $80 bucks for a case of Paulaner Oktoberfest and a case of Spaten Optimator. Guess which crappy state I'm currently in.

Three Floyds Munsterfest for me.

I am also partial to Paulaner Oktoberfest.

Good list though.

We'll be needing your address. I'll bring a mini of my black lager.

I can't stand about 95% of Marzens, although I was pleasantly surprised by a glass of Two Brothers Atom Smasher last night.

New Glarus Fat Squirrel. OK, maybe they make it all year round now, but it used to be seasonal. Of course you can't get it outside of Wisconsin, so sucks to be you but then again you don't have to deal with Scott Walker the douche.

Narragansett Lager. $5.55 for a 16 oz 6-pack.

For the win.

arsonik-were you one table away from me last night???? I had a fresh pint of their Punkin Ale, it was a tad bit too flowery for my taste, initial pumpkin flavor off set other aromatics oddly, really a very dichromatic effect that I didn't care for, but had a nice, light finish

There were lots of things to like about WI, and beer was most of the top ten, but I was glad when I was able to replicate Houdini's best escape: getting out of Appleton.

FTA: The Verdict: I think Sam Adams is an underrated brewery, but this beer, though easy to drink, isn't among their greatest accomplishments.

WTF?

This is probably Sam's best seasonal!

I tend to enjoy "fall" beers more as they are not usually crammed full of hops, but jah help me, any kind of pumpking flavored beer is farking disgusting and I cannot take anyone seriously who drinks it.

I simply love that face on non-beerdrinkers. It reminds me that yes, there are different people in the world than me, and they are dumb and uncultured. Just like me.

IMHO, it is the best pumpkin beer out there.

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired: This is probably Sam's best seasonal!

Agreed. Their Summer Ale is sh*t.

Speaking of Fall beers, I've had really mixed experiences with PumKing. I had it on tap once and it was like drinking grandma's pumpkin pie. Had it out of a bottle and it was like eating canned corn off a piece of old cardboard.

Anyway, fall in New England is for cider, and homemade cider is always the best. Super easy too. Much easier than brewing. If I have 25 gallons of cider by November, I'll be a pretty happy man. Unfortunately the sh*tty spring we had apparently borked up the apple crop so cider is kinda stoopid expensive compared to previous years. Oh well, sang McWatt, what the hell.

I just had the Staghorn Leap (their Oktoberfest) the other night. Not bad for the genre.

I can't stand regular Sam Adams, but I enjoy their Oktoberfest. The less hops the better.

Or maybe extraordinarily overrated. Post Road and Shipyard, not to mention Big Boss, put out far better. But I'm putting my money where my mouth is and making a pumpkin brown in a week.

Hmm, I get the feeling I don't belong in beer threads.
