disenfranchise 10 million Hispanic voters

Isn't that the point?

And best of all, the single fraud possibility that Voter ID can possibly fix: voter impersonation, will now be motivating 10 million disenfranchised voters to do just that. I can't imagine there'd be a black market for fake voter IDs, but we're certainly giving it our best shot.

This is so short-sighted. They're trying to eek out one more old, white majority election before demographic shifts make that impossible, and they're driving Hispanics away in droves. Have the party leaders no long-term strategy? Have they given up any future for the glimmer of hope that the mystical old ways will magically return and everything will be Mayberry in the 50s?

Of all of the things that seem stupid about the GOP, the willful disenfranchisement of Hispanics is the politically dumbest. And no, speaking once a year on Univision to deny your own platform and propping up aging conservative Cubans in Florida isn't going to cut it.

When was the poll conducted that showed a 30 point lead for President Fart? Because after Romney put on brown face to speak for Hispanics, he won 100% support from them.

I'm very intrigued as to what the GOP will try to morph their demographic strategies into, come 2016. Having spend the better part of 30 years alienating every voter segment aside from, as they see it, "angry white males", they have their work cut out for them when it comes to winning those groups back.

well, without getting RID of the religious NUTS, the GOP can not expect to get the rational center back. And there are not enough nutjobs and bigots to win anymore ...

the only other hope for the GOP is to run a trojan horse for the DEMS in the DEM primary.
Great DEM candidate. Wins the primary. BOOM, scandals are released!!! LOLOOLOLOLOL
The remaining hope for the GOP is the classic DEM mistake of running the most boring person in the world Candidate.
Dukakis, gore, kerry, gephardt? HAHAHAHA

Carter, Clinton and Obama ... so WHO will the DEMS run in 2016 which look like the last 3 DEM presidents and NOT look like the last 3 losers??

Election fraud by design.....The GOP is slowing creeping to the right and the further they go the closer they get to fascism. It should be no surprise that the radical elements in the party that are forcing this shift also sees the need to interfere with a democratic election.

They were talking about this on This Week with George Stephonopodopolopoulous. There were some (D)'s saying over the next couple of decades Hispanics and Immigration policy were going to be major players in politics and the (R)'s were shortsighted for not recognizing that. Silly (D)'s, the (R)'s recognized that long ago, thus all of the voter ID laws.

OK let's say it's 48-45. 7% undecideds, overwhelmingly vote for the challenger. Well, what is overwhelming to you?

If it breaks 4%-3% Romney, that's 51% Obama, 49% Romney. If it breaks 5%-2%, that's 50-50. In order for Romney to flat out win, it would be what 6%-1%.

So for Romney to come even with Obama, he'd have to win 5/7 of the remaining undecideds, or 71% of the undecided vote. To outright win, 85% of the vote. That's not going to happen. And Romney's doing himself no favors lately.

In fact, Gary Johnson will probably take about 0.5-1% of the vote on average. So you'll have to do even better.

As Nate Silver pointed out, in fact 80% of outcomes favor incumbents, and in most cases there is even greater disparity come election time, in favor of the incumbent. And this is ignoring the electoral college system in which Obama has 236 electoral votes already sewn up.

Obama wins. You are going to be so pissed off.

And yet, you don't need an ID to speak freely, practice religion, keep soldiers from sleeping in your house, have due process, make the police get a search warrant to go through your stuff, own a gun, have a trial by jury if accused, or publish a newspaper.

It seems like there's a common thread here...

On the other hand, after this election, a gigantic number of disenfranchised voters will have standing to sue in federal court that their voting rights were infringed on. Which will make for some entertaining news.

I could see this going really, really badly on election day.

People get turned away from the polls en masse and stick around outside to talk about it. The groups keep getting larger as more people are turned away and protests break out. The protests get bigger and angrier as some voters, mostly minorities, are turned away from the polls, while others, mostly whites, are allowed to vote. Things could escalate very quickly from there.

In the long run this will work against the GOP. California tried disenfranchise the Brownskin in the 90's with Proposition 187, the Save Our State (SOS) initiative. Once it got overturned, the mexican/americans remembered who pushed that law in the first place and have been a solid democrat block ever since.

Okay, as you may not have been around at the time:

The "three Statisticals" posts are a quote/repeated from 2008, when a farker who seems to have left (or.. uh.. ... eventually went too far in his posts...) made the "Three statisticals" comment about how Obama loss was a certain thing.

2012-09-24 02:53:51 PM
Why is it so wrong to ask for an ID? They're free and some sort of ID is required for virtually everything in life.

The real issue here is the vast numbers of people who have let emotions cloud their logic. The importance of a stable and reliable voting structure, from voter IDs to inscrutable voting machines, are the foundation of trust we all rely on.

If 10 million people are unable to vote due to the lack of a proper ID, shouldn't the question be why have we let 10 million people into our economic system who shouldn't be here? If we need more legal immigration, shouldn't the President pressure ICE and other departments to raise quotas and make the approval process easier?

Illegal immigrants know they shouldn't vote, therefore is sort of difficult to "disenfranchise" someone who never had the right in the first place.
