what I find most amusing are those who display the confederate flag and accuse President Obama of treason.

2012-09-24 09:59:15 PM

Coco LaFemme: They rebelled against their sovereign nation, taking up arms against their military. If those aren't the actions of a traitor, then pray tell, what would be?

I agree, the Founding Fathers were traitors.

Wait, what?

CujoQuarrel: FarkedOver: CujoQuarrel: That's not the Confederate flag anyway. It's the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia.

Good point. They were ok. It was those other confederates that gave those confederates a bad name.

Yeah

But you know you could fly the REAL Confederate flag and not get any where near as much flak for it since hardly anyone knows what it looks like.

Also any one know why they said they fly the Alabama flag? They did some recording in Muscle Shoals but aren't they primarily a Florida band?

Perhaps their smash hit "Sweet Home Alabama" has something to do with it. Call me crazy....

Silly Jesus: Hey, look, it's another "the civil war was solely about slaves and all southerners are racists" fark thread.

Which is ironic because that's what "Sweet Home Alabama" is about. A fark you to the stuck up dumbass yankees like Neil Young (and several posters) who look down on southerners and think we are all ignorant racists. There is alot to love about the South and lots of good people

So Lynrd Skynrd are like the opposite of Chic Fil A. This is our world. Enjoy.

Still hiding behind states rights to justify slavery, I see.

Coco LaFemme: Silly Jesus: Hey, look, it's another "the civil war was solely about slaves and all southerners are racists" fark thread.

The Civil War was about states' rights. The states' rights to own slaves. Lincoln was seen by the South as an abolitionist, though he wasn't really. He did say that if he could preserve the Union without freeing the slaves, he'd do that. His main point was not letting slavery spread beyond the states that already had it.

In any event, slavery was 99.9% the reason for the Civil War, and not all Southerners are racist. I hope that clarifies things for you.

My father was from Louisiana. According to him "Uncle Tom's cabin was propaganda. You'd never beat your slaves, they were valuable property." "The N words were better off when they were slaves." Very racist man. My grandmother on my mother's side was from Alabama. She too was racist as hell. She didn't even know any blacks growing up, she lived in a Sundown town (she called them "nigras") Many of my southern relatives (maybe most?), who I'm content to not know very well, are racist as hell. I try to be aware of confirmation bias, but over and over again, when I see an awful opinion posted on Fark, the person turns out to be from the south. Over and over again, when there is a story about segregated proms, prayer being forced in school, creationism being taught in a public school - it's almost always a southern state.

Confirmation bias, it works both ways. If you're going to use it as an excuse to be bigoted toward an entire population, then you have to understand how they may use it to do the same.

Philip Francis Queeg: Nothing says "Loser" like flying the flag of morally bankrupt, honor-less traitors who got their asses decisively kicked in a war 150 years ago.

it took what 4-5 years for the more powerful and rich north to win the war, hardly an ass kicking. Gen Lee and Gen Jackson had more moral than any General on the Northern side

Dragonflew: I'm in a cover band. We play a wide variety of music; some I like, some I don't. I have told the band that if we play Skynyrd, I'm walking. I loathe that band and most of their wife-beating, gun-loving, dimwitted fans.

do you have stats proving Skynyrd fans beat their wives?

do tell us what bands you cover that have fans that are so highly educated, anti-gun and all have perfect marriages

CujoQuarrel: Madbassist1: Coco LaFemme: If those aren't the actions of a traitor, then pray tell, what would be?

um...perhaps taking over your countries sovereign ship and then dumping the cargo into the bay? Or how about forming a milita and ambusing your countries military? I think one of those probably qualifies...

The difference is who wins. It's a revolution if you win. It's a rebellion if you lose.

THIS IS TRUTH. REVOLUTIONARIES ARE TERRORISTS WHO WIN!

kingoomieiii: NeoAnderthal: Another first amendment victory. Every American should be happy with this.

It's my first-amendment right to call anyone who supports flying the flag of a defeated enemy of America a traitorous, racist sack of shiat.

good thing you have the right to say things like that in this country. kind of like the free speech enjoyed by others that allow them to say/display things that others feel inappropriate. this is america... you have the right to be offended.

The English actually beheaded Charles I after the English Civil War. The Parliamentarians accused the King of treason against the people and nation of England.

You can say that the Confederates were traitors and treasonous. You can also say that certain people on Wall Street have committed actions which hurt the stability of our country and that could also be considered treason. Any wealthy person trying to hide large amounts of money overseas to avoid having to pay taxes could be considered treasonous.

I think that the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia is a good reminder that this country is made up of many people with many different ideas about freedom, and that our government needs to be working towards making this country a place where, as many people as possible, enjoy their freedoms.

When the bands would come into the bar to set up I told them it was a "Skynrd Free" zone, one band panicked because each set of theirs had at least 2 Skynrd songs. then they realize i was farking with them. I really wasnt. I really didnt want to hear any farking Skynrd that night. We only ever had one band play the bar that didn't play any Skynrd, I loved em, the owner didnt invite them back.

Skynyrd is ok as long as it is not:

Freebird
Gimmie Three Steps
Simple Man

Heck, I think that's it...

Family fought and died in the Civil War. They were dirt poor and never owned much land let alone people.

Not everyone who is proud to be from the south is a racist. The flag I have is the last official flag of the CSA. I was simply pointing out that if you want to fly a flag, at least fly the right one.

Sweet Home Alabama? As a bassist, you must loathe that song. Same three notes over and over, regardless of verse, chorus, or bridge/solo. Not a lot of music makes me actually angry, but that song is one of them.

I don't give a f*ck. You posted an image of a flag ("one of these"), and blowmonkey posted as if my response, "a jpeg?", was racist. I assume the dipsh*t meant to reply to your post instead of mine, and I responded accordingly.

You know lots of people will brand you as racist for flying anything that resembles or incorporates a confederate flag. If you chose to wave it around knowing that in advance, then you don't get to whine about the people who think that is automatically racist.

If Sweet Home was just three notes, maybe, but there's a lot more to it (and most skynyrd songs) than is apparent at first...but yeah, you're right, I just forgot it.

so the U.S of A just wanted to play with the south for 4-5 years and didn't care about how many of their own citizens were killed or maimed during this time. Brilliant plan

I realize had General Lee fought for the North as he had be asked to do, the war would have been over in the first year but please don't pretend the North put an ass kicking on the south like the south was a push over.
