It's not fair to spend years in a sensory deprivation chamber. If you're going to trot out that sentence, you should at least pay attention to the news in a cursory way.

Romney deliberately did not claim about $1.75 million in charitable deductions on his 2011 taxes in order to artificially keep his effective tax rate above 13 percent, Malt said in a statement Friday. This was to keep Romney's taxes in line with a claim he made earlier this year that he had never paid less than a 13 percent rate - without this deliberate overpayment he'd have had an estimated tax rate of just 12.2 percent, the lowest he's disclosed for any year. In doing so, Romney contradicted a July interview in which he said that he should be disqualified from being president if he ever paid more taxes than he owed.

Why hasn't Romney been directly asked about this?

FTA: Harry Reid Was Wrong

You are basing that on a letter instead of actual returns. That letter claims that Romney payed an average of 20.20 percent during the last 20 years, but the only returns we have access to are nowhere near that rate. Did Romney have one year with a huge tax rate or something?

2012-09-24 09:59:54 AM
"Romney Is Not The 47 Percent Romney is not a member of the "47 percent" of Americans who don't pay income tax. His 1990-2009 disclosure letter begins by noting he "owed both federal and state income taxes" in every single year covered."

Sure...for that period of time....How about this year?

What they don't tell us: whether Rmoney took the 2009 IRS amnesty for illegally undisclosed Swiss bank accounts.

Let's see the 2009 returns, Willard.

I doubt he's paid any where near that since at least 2000. He probably averaged all his tax returns from 18 on up using the same bullshiat math. Who knows until he does what his dad did and releases them.

Romney is hiding his returns for a reason. His own judgement is they are too damaging to release. He has stated that.

If Reid's were true I don't believe it's enough to cost Romney the election. Therefore I believe the truth Romney is hiding to be worse than Reid's claim.

All he released is a document prepared by his tax attorney that has a "summary of his previous taxes."

This document is bull. It's the equivalent of Mitt asking his Mom to release a note to the press asserting that he's always been a "good guy." It means nothing.

Let's see the long form returns. What does he have to hide? Heck, his own FATHER set the precedent for 12 years of releases.

I won't say he is or isn't; but he's usually very tight lipped. He is a good and careful strategist and wouldn't say this unless he is confident it wouldn't bite him.

He could be a huge liar but this could also be the truth at the same time.

I basically think he is a tax cheat. At first, I thought he just went to ridiculous measures to avoid paying taxes and that he had enough judgement to blatantly break the rules. Then I found out that he clearly lacked good judgement (Libya and fundraiser video) and about how he cheated on taxes for Marriott.

I think he is a tax cheat, possibly a felon and the IRS/Department of Justices really has their hands tied about doing anything about it until after the election.

What We Learned

Harry Reid Was Wrong Sen. Harry Reid's notoriously unsubstantiated claim that Romney paid no taxes for 10 years is not true.

Really? Where was this "proof"? I don't really believe that Romney skipped paying taxes, and neither does Reid, he just stuck his foot in his mouth trying to make a completely different statement. Either way, I see no "proof" that the Mittster paid for all of those years, except for some "take our word for it" bullshiat.\

Romney Is Not The 47 Percent Romney is not a member of the "47 percent" of Americans who don't pay income tax.

We learned nothing new with Romney's taxes, except that he once again can't keep his promises. He said that he would never over-pay his taxes, actually made a big stink like it was the highest form of treason for some reason, and then made a statement this summer that he paid the same tax rate as the Average Joe. In order to make this claim work, he had to under-claim his charitable deductions, which means that he overpaid his taxes. Everyone knew he had taxes going in at some point, what we really wanted to know is what percentage, how much, how many tax loopholes he uses, and how long this has been going on. Of course we learned none of this.

Anything other than Mitt Romney's tax returns: the Federal government is incompetent, lazy, inefficient, and should be privatized.

Mitt Romney's tax returns only: the workers at the IRS are eagle-eyed geniuses who can easily comprehend Mitt's hundreds-of-pages-long tax returns and would have caught anything illegal. Non-story libtards.
