The lines are for my mother and grandmother who just have basic phones and do nothing more than make calls on it. Looks like I'm going down to the Sprint store tomorrow and upgrade both lines to iPhone 5's, pay the upgrade price, change the lines back to the old phones and sell the iPhones for a nice profit.

Why upgrade? Are your phones broken? Or do you just need to have that shiny new gadget?

wholedamnshow: xsarien: sure haven't: I gotta say that Samsung's new commercial is deliciously awesome.

If you think good advertising is illustrating your target customer as "A prick who has nothing better to do with his/her time than troll the people on line at an Apple store."

/ Call me when upgrading the OS on anything but a Nexus is as easy as pushing the "update" button in my phone's settings.
// Happy with the iPhone 4S.
/// Probably buy the 5S/6, though.

On my 1.5 year old HTC Evo 3D, I was prompted to install 4.0. Guess what happened? I pressed update and 30 minutes later.....I had Android 4.0.

Crazy right?

Lucky. I had to download Kies (a silly iTunes-ish program for Samsung devices) for the sole purpose of installing ICS. Haven't opened the program since. So worth it, ICS is a big improvement over Gbread

Do people actually do shiat like trade playlists and link their financial information to motherfarking Google?

I'm still struggling with this. You're not trading songs, you're just providing a list, right? So the other farker you're sending a playlist has to already have that shiat on their goddamn phone. That would mean they've probably heard all that stuff before. Is this a "OMG, you've gotta hear these songs together, it's beautiful man!" That's stupid. No I don't want to hear your goddamn playlist. Keep your playlist infected herp-phone away from mine.

Someone must have read the forecast about Apple being worth a trillion. They told their friends at Foxconn, and the friends got a might angry. Mitt Romney should fly in to explain the facts of financial life to them. Once the rioters hear Mitt's take, everything will be peachy.

Because for the most part phones are designed and built around a slightly-longer-than-2-years obsollescence plan, and battery life and some critical function on most phones goes to shiat (buttons wear out, break, can't replace, etc.) before/after this point, depending on usage, and the vast, vast, majority of the world does not do pay as you go phone service, which means they're going to be bound in contract anyway, so might as well be using the upgrade when it's available.

Especially since he's overtly mentioned that he's on a family plan, those are complicated.

I'm sure you either 'don't use a cell phone because people can get ahold of me X, Y, Z way' or use a '1834 brick phone that has 3 colors and doubles as a trenching tool in case of nazi invasion'.

Doubleposting myself I think.

I've been debating getting an iphone 5 (I have an over 2 years old 4 that is showing its age in battery life, and I suspect the cellular data antenna/connection is dieing).

Is the jump from 4 to 4s worth mentioning?

Since it's, I think, 100$ for the upgrade to a 4s, and the iphone 5 is 200$, wasn't sure which one would be a better deal. I'm renewing my contract either way, and would like to get a new phone because, well, mine's starting to show its age poorly. Had the speaker bit (that transmits MY voice out, so speaker or transciever or reciever however you prefer) bug out for a few hours one day while I was troubleshooting stuff on the phone. I was not happy.

Whatever you do, gamestop will pay $100+ cash for your iPhone 4. Ta Da, price difference between 4s and 5 doesn't matter.

Acer Inc. (Taiwan)
Amazon.com (United States)
In 2011, Amazon and Foxconn formed a joint-design manufacturing company. The move was meant to produce an Amazon branded smartphone sometime in 2012.
Apple Inc. (United States)

Barnes & Noble (United States)
Cisco (United States)
Dell (United States)
EVGA Corporation (United States)

BullBearMS: We should all use Samsung products instead!

"Serious legal violations and labor abuses" have been found at Samsung factories, according to a U.S.-based labor group.

Among the abuses found by China Labor Watch (CLW) at the factories were staff being "forced" to work 100 hours of overtime a month, unpaid hours and unsafe conditions.

The report says that workers at the eight factories also have to endure "standing for 11 to 12 hours while working, underage workers, severe age and gender discrimination, abuse of student and labor dispatch workers, a lack of worker safety, and verbal and physical abuse."

Apple should try beating the workers until morale improves like Samsung does!

Chinese workers are demanding the working conditions, wages, and unions that American workers gave up to help the Job Creator save their jobs only to have them shipped overseas anyway. There was an story ran on this a few weeks ago on Chinese college students being forced to work at Foxconn to help them meet quota for the I-phone5.

Also, why would you use RFID/NFC to send data, when you have 4G or WiFi which is MUCH faster and doesn't require the two devices to be within inches of each other?

This

The fastest version of NFC sends data at less than one eleventh of the speed of the slowest version of WiFi.

Free apps like Bump have been around and allowing you to transfer photos, music, etc. for years now without NFC's ridiculously slow speeds.

I understand the field of pedantic twatery is a good career to get into, but you seem to be really bad at it. Have a look at the largest technology companies in the world and compare the short list of names from above. So when all of those names come up, realize more are probably on there as well because it's a short list and not a complete list.

Foxconn is a monolithic manufacturer that, until a couple years ago, nobody heard of. They run the gamut from assembling computers and phones down to manufacturing piddly cables and connectors. If you have something in your home with a semi-conductor, odds are Foxconn had some part in its construction.

digistil:

Because 4G and WIFI don't require you to smack their phone with yours and don't open the doors for someone with a virus-infected phone to easily transfer that same security risk to yours. Looking at that Samsung ad, they take their phones and tap them together. Given the S3's proclivity to crack this seems like a bad idea.

Also note that all this talk about NFC (e.g. iPhone doesn't even have NFC, what losers!) seldom brings up the security flaws inherent to Android's distribution model. All the Samsung, HTC and Moto rebadgers of the Android system add their bloatware and, for many, this is done poorly with loads of security holes. People willing to give Google Wallet access to their bank or credit accounts are taking a massive risk as most users aren't aware of these flaws, much like the "Macs won't get viruses" people, they are unaware that the classic computer virus is not the preferred mode for gaining access and or control of your computer any more. Malicious code, executed on a web page is far more effective as is using malicious code buried in the little app you downloaded from the "open" Android market.
