Well at least it's painless.

And it brings on many changes.

A brave man once texted me
to answer questions that are key
'is it to be or not to be'
and I texted back while driving, 'oh why ask me?
Then this tree jumped in front of my car, I swear.

Injury death?

FTFA: More Americans now commit suicide than are killed in car crashes as miserable economy takes its toll

You think it's bad now. Wait until all of the pensioners are gone and the first giant wave of "defined contribution" retirement plan holders tries to retire after having their nest-eggs cleaned out by a major downturn in the economy. You're going to see suicides become the new alternative to retired living in poverty.

Dead for Tax Reasons: Injury death?

Yeah. It's like dying because Jason Vorhees rammed a giant spike into your skull through your eye socket, as opposed to just gently slipping away in your sleep one night.

It's Obama's plan for lower the unemployment rate.

And although deaths from car crashes declined 25 percent, deaths from poisoning rose 128 percent, deaths from falls increased 71 percent and deaths from suicides rose 15 percent, according to the study.

Here's the meat of the study from the related link. This is at least as much cars getting safer every year as suicide rising.

Shakespearean copycat crimes. Burn all the books!

Around here the number of "train signal faults" has been increasing as that is what they call it when someone steps in front of a train. The massive increase has lead to complaints that they need to fix the signals.

Many countries have had very flat road death statistics for the last 3 to 5 years where they used to drop every year. Many insurance policies will pay out after a road accident but won't for suicide.

I'm confused, did the suicidees write "Oh woe is me, this shoddy economy has forced my hand to slit mine own throat" or did this tabloid just decide to put words in dead peoples mouths?

There actually is established theory that shows when economic conditions change, suicide rates increase, holding everything else steady. Assuming suicide is up because the economy is worse than in 2000 isn't an unreasonable assumption.

Now now, we can't let facts get in the way of sensationalism.

Car crashes have fallen behind other forms of injury death.

But it's mostly white men who commit suicide, so it doesn't really matter.

I'm a liberal but this is one area where I have a pretty big libertarian streak. It really sucks for the loved ones you leave behind, but if you're in your right mind, I don't see how it's anyone's decision but yours.

You say there ain't no use in living
It's all a waste of time
and you wanna throw your life away, well
People that's just fine
Go ahead on 'n get it over with then
Find you a bridge and take a jump
Just make sure you do it right the first time
'cause nothin's worse than a suicide chump

2012-09-24 12:13:15 AM
What does this mean?

Is it because more teens are offing themselves? Is it because solders are coming home and blowing their brains out? Is it the inevitable rise in self-administered euthanasia caused by aging babby boomers?

growing old can be painful misery. and it sucks dying a slow death to disease or living a life of horror due to mental illness. death with dignity as seen in Soylent Green is overdue.

My mom died from suicide 5 years ago this past friday at the age of 55. She was a major alcoholic that I hadn't seen since I was 7 anyways. Laid down in front of a train. My dad's dad died by suicide in 1958 at the age of 25 when my dad was 4. Jumped 200 feet from an overpass according to death certificate. It's strange to think of, and you wonder how things would have turned out if they lived and died of natural causes. Would my dad have been a better dad? Would I have met/known my grandpa? Would my mom have eventually cleaned up and been able to know that she has a granddaughter? The idea of having such close genetic relations on both maternal and paternal sides also scares the crap out of me and makes we wonder if someday I will get that bad, and do the same thing. *shrugs*

Why kill time when you can kill yourself?

Also, suicide is something you'll regret for the rest of your life.

Now that cars are much safer than they used to be, it's time to do the same for suicide.

This is what the GOP brings to the table for America and Americans: Death

So, the only real answer is to hunt GOPers down like the vermin they are.

Suicide is the right of every sentient being.

The problem is most people who choose it publicly are just depressed or something.

Many people have very good reasons when the kill themselves.

My home state of South Australia has a population of approximately 2 million people (and about twice as many kangaroos). Our annual road toll is in the order of 100 per year. Our suicide toll appears to be about twice that, although the precise figure is difficult to quantify.

The story seems plausible.

/cue Aussies from other states declaring they'd kill themselves if they lived here too

Jeez I wasn't even thinking of my username when I posted. I just love the whole "rising from ashes/starting over thing" Phoenixes can die and start over fresh. Sadly, we can't. Also, "Suicide of a Phoenix" sounds cool.

"Suicides via falls or poisoning have risen significantly and experts fear that there could be many more unaccounted for, particularly in cases of overdose."

I knew 2 people who OD'd, and Im pretty sure that they were both suicides. After dabbling in drugs for a few years, I imagine more overdoses are occuring by suicide than by junkies who don't know their tolerance.

And these kinds of suicides are just going to rise and rise. Fun fact: Prescription drug overdoses have been killing more people than street drugs since 2008.

I just hope that their respective families can deal with this change.
