Oh geezus, that game infuriated me to no end when I was younger. Still does a pretty damn good job of doing that to me now.

You mean THIS :)

The game is GORGEOUS, has amazing sound design and an incredible sense of atmosphere, but it is not even close to a great game. People remember the graphics, sound and atmosphere, they forget having to inch pixel by pixel past the octopus or be slapped back down to run out of oxygen.

That's cool, but I am looking forward to this even more.

One of the most underrated soundtracks of games from the 90s. The different levels' songs are AWESOME. And while you most likely wouldn't have played the game with headphones on, if you do now, you'll hear some amazing use of the stereo field. Also, compared to other Genesis games out there, nothing came close to the diversity of sounds generated.

Highly recommended that you all check this out.

The genesis was definitely lacking in the sound department, but this game proved it had potential.

Are we talking about the game with a horrifying screaming noise and flashing lights when you jump out of the ocean randomly, causing a certain child to drop the controller out of fright past midnight and never play that game again?

That game scared the shiat out of me as a child. I still have nightmares of that little dolphin jumping too high and the giant screaming tornado sweeping the ocean. Creepy as fark.

I have beaten all the Ecco games. I have not achieved much in life, but I can always be proud of that I guess.

You knew I'd be here...

SEGA SERIES THAT ARE COMING BACK (in name only):

Phantasy Star Online
Virtua Cop (Yuji Naka and Yu Suzuki have no part in it, neither do RAGE studios)
Daytona USA (Runs on the Forza engine... which is the Sega GT engine...)

SEGA SERIES THAT HAVE THEIR ORIGINAL CREATORS COMING BACK:

Shenmue III (CONFIRMED. Q2 2014, Sega of Japan. Will be DLC for Xbox Live and PSN. The game's been finished for ten YEARS, but due to the licensing deal with Microsoft in America, Sega waited out the exclusivity license, same thing between Panzer Dragoon: Orta and...)
Panzer Dragoon Saga: Rebirth (UNCONFIRMED RELEASE DATE. Yu Suzuki's AM2 will be handling the game's engine with Overworks fleshing it out, the ACTUAL WRITERS (squee!) of Panzer Dragoon Saga are returning.)
Shining Forces (Yuji Naka is RETURNING TO SEGA!)

SEGA SERIES THAT ARE GETTING NEW INSTALLMENTS:

Shadowrun: System Crash (WizKids and the original designers from FASA, American-European-exclusive, Xbox 360 exclusive. Picks up immediately after the end of Shadowrun for the Genesis.)
Shinobi: Endless Legion (DLC, "Retro" game being built on the same engine as Shinobi III: Shadow Dancer)
Golden Axe 3 (Mixed feelings-a-plenty)

SEGA OF AMERICA SERIES GETTING RELAUNCHES:

Vectorman (No details available)
ToeJam and Earl (Nintendo DS)

...AND...

ETERNAL FARKING CHAMPIONS! (Xbox 360 and PS3, the premise is entirely about 2-player multiplayer with returning characters and Sega characters from the Genesis days (minus the Sonic franchise) included.)

/Sega dominated TGS this year... holy shiat.

//PC gamers, REJOICE! SINS OF A SOLAR EMPIRE 2!

Jedekai: henmue III (CONFIRMED. Q2 2014, Sega of Japan. Will be DLC for Xbox Live and PSN. The game's been finished for ten YEARS, but due to the licensing deal with Microsoft in America, Sega waited out the exclusivity license, same thing between Panzer Dragoon: Orta and...)

I never did finish #2, they made a #3 ten years ago and no one ever released it? Weird.

It was plenty simple, (directions, burst, sonar, momentum), it just wasn't terribly well made to take advantage of the atmosphere.

Shenmue is possibly the greatest video game I've ever played.
I'm sure there's better stuff now, so that when I get Ryo to drink 10 cans of coffee in a row something will actually happen.

$65,000,000 was spent on the first two - they're the literal reason behind the Dreamcast's demise. Interestingly, Shenmue 2 on the Xbox sold over a million copies in America and 750,000 in Europe. For a game that's VERY Asian this is a real anomaly. Sega made most of their money back, but it's the ambition of the project (and Yu Suzuki's vision) that make it legendary. When they're on target only BioWare and Valve can match Sega at eliciting emotion and contemplation from a video game.

Panzer Dragoon Saga: Rebirth is what you're going to hear nothing about in gaming press in six months - the original game is one of the very, very few where so few played it and so many wanted to. Rarity is a small reason it sells for boucoup bucks on the secondary market - it's a rarity where "perfection" isn't hyperbole. Emulation as a whole for the higher-end systems in the early 2000s can be single-handedly credited to PDS. The Smithsonian gave it it's very own exhibit for one reason: it's the literal blurring line between "art" and "game". Even Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect can't hold a candle to it.

I meant "easier" - used the wrong word.

I was big into marine life when I was a kid. Even thought I wanted to be a marine biologist when I grew up.

This game scared the ever loving shiat out of me. And with it, my interest in anything to do with water. No other video game has farked me up as bad as Ecco 1 and 2.

Huh I was already college aged and I never knew that game was scary to kids. It scared me too, but only cause I knew my cute little dolphin would just drown or be shocked or beaten to death again and again and there'd be nothing I could do about it.

OH I GET IT

I'm going to need some proof on that this has been confirmed as doing a search is bringing up nothing. 1 and 2 were some of the best games I've ever played.

These are the same people who had trouble beating the dam in TMNT for NES, or the speeder part in level 3 of Battletoads.

I beat TMNT many times. But I never beat Battletoads. Clinger Wingers always doomed me. Sad it was like the second to last level.

The level after the dam was much harder. I could get past the dam nearly every time; sure, you couldn't fark around, but I never found it that difficult. It's the unforgiving (as in, insta-death if you miss it) jumps in the next area that would get me every time. Farthest I ever made it was the rooftops in that area, by which time I was so worn down and low on Turtles and, IIRC, facing even more jumps-of-doom, that I never did make it any farther.

Didn't help that the game was fairly long by NES standards. Hell, you could beat a half-dozen other major games combined in the time it took to get to my farthest-reached point in TMNT. That means the late stages took more investment to reach, and so were harder to practice.

Yu Suzuki. Sega's keynote speech. Tokyo Game Show. It wasn't a surprise - Sega of Japan has been saying since the X360 launch that the window for their exclusivity was ten years. That ends this year.

/Virtua Fighter Online is *NOT* confirmed, though. Something that American hardcore fighting fans have lusted over since the Xbox got it in 2003 in Japan and we didn't.

As a person who beat Blaster Master on cartridge growing up, I agree. Talk about a game that needed a save feature.
