FirstNationalBastard: Foxxinnia: The thing with bronies is how they're constantly shoving their shiat into other people's shiat. I mean, that's what nerds of all stripes do, but today I couldn't go 20 posts in the football thread with some pony pictures. I mean, farking shiat, why do people do that? I'd be just as annoyed as some dullards posting Doctor Who shiat or something but fark, guys, piss off. I like shiat too, but I'm not constantly posting images of those things in contexts where they don't make sense. "Oh look a hockey thread! I'm going to post pictures of Columbo because I love Columbo and I have a bunch of images of Columbo with text on them!" That's what I'd be doing if I had tenth degree autism like bronies do.

You're taking your internet thread about a child's game played by overgrown men on performance enhancing drugs who pat each other on the ass a lot a bit too seriously.

I'm just using the football thread as an example. It can happen in any thread and it's annoying as hell.

Seems interesting that no-one seems to have remarked on the Atheism stats. Maybe Bronyism has quietly supplanted Atheism as a more potent caliber of troll-bait?

Atheism doesn't make people question the concept of masculinity the way Bronies do, so they're more frightening.

Lsherm: Shadow Blasko: Lsherm: Shadow Blasko: Because properly fitted steel boned corsetry is more comfortable, supportive and better for you than a bra?

For you or for a woman? I'd think they know what's most comfortable.

And why not whale bone, since that was the original skeleton?

yes, I'm sure that my closest friends, customers, and my Mistress have been lying about it for 10 years. All 1000+ of them.

I'm not accusing them of being liars, but I think the current definition of a corset isn't near what the original was. "comfortable" is not an adjective anyone in the 17-1800's would use to describe a corset.

Ummm, yeah. I agree. How did we get stuck on semantics between modern performance corsetry and period pieces?

FirstNationalBastard: /also, you geeks here know damn well you'd nail Cheetara or Gadget from Rescue Rangers if given a chance, so don't get all high and mighty concerning Furries OR Bronies.

Hey, some of us have standards, you know. My list begins and ends with Callie Briggs.

Sylvia_Bandersnatch: So, you stopped liking something you already liked for your own reasons, because other people liked it for their own reasons? Yeah, that sounds grown up.

To be viciously unfair, that's more or less how I stopped leaning libertarian. I encountered an alarming fraction of sociopaths, and re-examined my predisposition from first principles.

Twilight Farkle: Part of the virality is that because it's already been mashed up with everything

Sounds a bit reminiscent of Scooch-a-mouti from Vinge's Rainbows End.

I thought the Atheism stats were for Furries in general, not Bronies? As well as the low "exclusive heterosexuality".

That does make some sense.

fluffy2097: Rent Party: Which one is the furries?

Yes.

But the furries have had more time as a subculture to get rid of the bestality people in their midst.

Bronies, those that go to cons, are not that mature as a subculture yet, and have not realized the PR value of not talking about farking plush toys in full view of the public.

Or as I say with other parts of fandom, the established ones have some sort of critical mass to say what is acceptable public behavior, while the newer ones lack it. Not that some don't break it, but at least most of the older fandoms at least aren't cheering it on.

God doesn't exist. People do. It makes perfect sense.

Although I would say lack of religion is a good reason to throw away defined gender roles. Once you take away the whole 'greater purpose' and all that rubbish there really isn't a whole lot of a reason to make other live the way you want them to anymore.

fusillade762: I thought the Atheism stats were for Furries in general, not Bronies?

Well, yes. And, looking at the thread, the Bronyism controversy completely dominated. The absurd levels of atheism (Almost 4-in-9? Actual majority if agnostics are included???) among furries didn't even ping on anyone's radar. For comparison, the only comparable demographic results that come to mind are the National Academy of Sciences (from memory, 70%+ Atheist, 20%+ Agnostic) and the PRRI/Georgetown study of the 18-25(?) demographic (ditto, 11%, 12%). The next closest is the Pew 2008 data for the 18-30(???) demographic (ish, 3%, 5%???)

Feeble wibble blip vwark?

Yes! The concerns raised in this thread (and others) about what happens when bronies congregate, whether online or in meatspace, are real-world examples of belief circle clashes. Never mind the belief circle clash between bronies and furries, suppose a major brony convention were held on the same site as a gathering of the juggaloes...

(And now I have a new augmented reality app to play with. Very simple, as you might expect for early 21st century technology: a 3D pony appears whenever a target marker appears in the video feed.)

fusillade762:
Kudos for punctuating that book title correctly ;)

That too. Bigger kudos from me for the Rule 34p ("There is pony of it") proof. It's one thing to claim there's pony of it, but I really wasn't expecting to find an actual augmented reality app that I can actually use to ponify my world like a character out of a Vernor Vinge novel.

Sounds like there may be some confusing between descriptive and proscriptive rules involved; that is, rule 34p vs rule 35p, and then some.

Irony: Lauren Faust, feminist extrodinaire, created the most traditionally masculine character in cartoons in the past ten years.

Big Macintosh with his monosylabic speech, singleminded determination, and laconic wit is probably closer to what a man should be in every European ideal set since Sparta.

If someone makes a joke about Fluttershy and photosynthesis, is she not a tree?

I see it as 35p until someone actually does it, then it becomes 34p. At the time I asked the Googles, it had been 34p since last July, I just didn't know it yet. It's possible my query collapsed the wave function in favor of the app's existence, but the problem with that hypothesis is that it's unprovable. (Proof of said hypothesis wouldn't necessarily require magic, but it'd likely be regarded as Anathem. Funny what happens to when folks get cooped up for a thousand years, innit?)

Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, and back in the real world, I've got a rather big day ahead of me tomorrow. Maybe not quite as big as Adrien Brony's day, but I know it's coming up, so I gotta hit the hay sooner rather than later. (Confound this day job, it drives me to ponies!)

TheDumbBlonde: WTF is a "bronie"?

New to Fark? They're grown men (possibly pedophiles, I can't say for sure but I'd never let one watch my children) who identify with the cartoon, "My Little Pony". A cartoon designed and marketed for little girls. They pop up often in threads posting pictures from the cartoon with text overlaid.

Narcissistic rage is a reaction to narcissistic injury, a perceived threat to a narcissist's self-esteem or self-worth.

Don't really know why people hate furries so much; did the school mascot rape you? Non-furries get up to far more bizarre stuff in the bedroom than a bit of yiffing in a squirrel suit. As long as everyone's having fun and everyone's consenting I've not the slightest interest in what people do with their tingly bits.

Bronies beg the philisophical question: Should we force our childhoods to end, and replace them with a soulless, agonizing spiral toward bitter adulthood? It's what our parents and grandparents did.. and so many generations before them. And yet, here we are, contemplating perpetual childhood through 'fandoms' and memes. Disgusting, really.

But since you're acknowledging these aren't corsets that torture the wearer, that's clarification.
