I can understand why people want fluoride, but what I don't understand is why the water supply has to be polluted with it against the wishes of people who would rather not have their water poisoned by mandate.

Is it so hard to use a flouride supplement?

Lucky LaRue: poisoned by mandate

Uh, poisoned? In any case, the people who fluoride in the water is targeted towards are the ones that can't afford supplements.

They could always buy bottled water or get a well. No one is putting a gun to their head and forcing them to drink it.

Good point. They should stop adding chlorine, too. For that matter, why are they "processing" it at all? It just adulterates the water they get to begin with. If anyone wants to do something to it, let them buy a filter or something.

It seems to make more sense to ask people that want cavity-free teeth to buy flouride supplement than to make people who don't want to be poisioned to buy that which is essential to life.

Where were these dentists when there were public hearings on the matter. I spoke in favor of keeping fluoridation both for the beneficial impact on developing teeth, and because to scrap it would cost the county more than keeping it.

One dentist spoke in favor as well. If it was such an important issue where was the Pinellas Dental Society, why didn't they send someone?

Some people don't want things added to their water, I'm OK with that they can use a fluoride toothpaste if they want, but frankly fluoride has proven to be safe and effective for millions of person years so the science the opponents cite is improbable at best and usually simply wrong.

Pretty sure I am. There's an oil-refinery a few miles away in one direction, and in the other direction, I'm in the landing path of not one, but two airports.

But yeah. I'm sure I'll jump right on that whole "fluoride is teh poisoning" thing just as soon as my tumors stop itching.

This isn't just Republicans being paranoid. There's a big fight to keep the water in Portland, Oregon from being fluoridated as well.

Do people drink anywhere near as much tapwater these days as they used to? What they should do is mandate it in bottled water nationwide.

Citizens I must warn you, I sense something strange in my mind. This fluoride situation is serious. Let's cure it 'cause we're running out of time. It's all so beautiful, the strong teeth they seem from the start. But fluoride is all so deadly, when the poison it gets in your heart. That stuff is poison. Poison!

What if they dig their well into a naturally fluoridated water source, huh? The Earth itself is in on the conspiracy that fluoride prevents tooth decay!

Did you know half of the people in the entire world who drink fluoridated water live in the US? The idea the entire civilized world is doing it is bullshiat. It's a uniquely American obsession.

Go around the world and you'll find there is no great epidemic of tooth decay, with the US being the only country with good teeth. Studies have shown global cavity rates to be the same whether the country fluoridates or not.

There is no point in arguing with these people, because honestly they're just all crazy. If you think fluoride is poison or whatever mucked up crap you have to say about it, you're a genuine crazy person. You have absolutely nothing to back up your argument except making shiat up. You're almost so dumb and/or insane that you shouldn't even be allowed to make decisions for yourself, let alone anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if one day little antennas popped out of all of these people's heads, and then they all congregated at Rose Hills Memorial Park cemetery to dance and masturbate under the moon until the mothership comes to take them home.

Premise: most dentists are millionaire
While most millionaires tend to be Republican, you can guess that a large percentage of dentists would be capitalists.
Removing fluoride from the drinking water would create more business for dentists. So much that it could be a 100% increase in business.
Conclusion: not all Republicans are evil people who would rather make money on your suffering. Primarily focused on the poor.

But there are always people who don't pay enough attention to politics and end up supporting an evil party.

Welcome to "generational amnesia".

Just as with the anti-vax crowd who didn't live through the 50s with polio claiming kinds left and right, they have grown up in relative safety in the last 60 years of not being exposed to things that would claim thousands of lives a year. Fluoridated water was one of these advancements in modern living.

The cult of ignorance and anti-science would rather us return to year 1870 levels of disease and ignorance.

No one would claim that because it's already a lie based on the lack of knowledge of how ions dissolve in water.

Regardless of how it's added, 95% of the fluoride is in the form F-. Adding CaF2 or NaF makes no difference. You get water with F-.

More importantly, only 9% of water fluoridation uses sodium fluoride. 63% of the population received water fluoridated with fluorosilicic acid.

It's not nearly as pervasive as the most common industrial by-product dihydrogen monoxide. That stuff is in everything and needs to be banned.

At the bottom of that article: "SOURCE NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc."

It's a press release from an anti-fluoride group, not Harvard. If you go on to read details about the "study," Harvard didn't do a study so much as they had a group collect studies and said the results of THOSE studies POSSIBLY indicate that people who live in fluoridated areas have lower IQs... In China and India.

Yeah, that's more than a little contrived, buddy. The fact something is stamped Reuters or Harvard doesn't automatically mean those organizations support the material. Crazy people are allowed to publish papers too.

Yeah, because anyone can just put words in the mouth of institutions like Harvard without any fear of lawsuits. Here's the paper on Harvard.edu.

When it comes down to it, there are all kinds of modern studies showing fluoride doesn't help your teeth, and in fact harms the brain. The only thing deniers can provide are insults. Who is the real idiot here?

Oh, and allow me to add this. The study is talking about fluoride contamination, not fluoride purposefully being added to water or toothpaste.

This is the same kind of shiat holocaust-deniers and skinheads pull. They like to cite studies and books that either come from no source themselves, have no evidence, or maybe even don't exist under the assumption no one is actually going to look it up and call them on their shiat. You remain a crazy person, sorry.

Here's what that article actually says: "The researchers conducted a systematic review of studies, almost all of which are from China where risks from fluoride are well-established. Fluoride is a naturally occurring substance in groundwater, and exposures to the chemical are increased in some parts of China."

Either you have no reading comprehension skills, or are just willfully ignorant because you don't want to admit how poorly you understand things.

The study says that too much exposure to fluoride is a problem. You know what else can kill you if you have too much of it? Water. You know what else? Everything. Better get to work on protesting the dangers of drinking too much water if you want to be consistent.
