Lewis is on pole and Disaster is right beside him on the front row.

woohoo green!

BTW is it me or does Singapore at night look a lot like the Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2?

Disaster would have to jump the start to pull his signature move.

Anyway, enough idle chatter, the formation lap is underway.

2012-09-23 08:01:33 AM
Beautiful shot of the grid from the rear with the tail lights flashing.

2012-09-23 08:02:06 AM
Does Seb have LEDs embedded in his helmet?

2012-09-23 08:03:55 AM
Him, wonder what Maldonado will do from the front two...it would slightly amuse me to see him knock Hamilton out.

Go Webber!

2012-09-23 08:04:13 AM
Here we go!

2012-09-23 08:04:26 AM
Disaster is down to fourth.

2012-09-23 08:05:00 AM
And Hamilton gets away cleanly, that might have been the toughest part of the race for Lewis.

2012-09-23 08:05:52 AM
Modmins are on the ball this morning!

2012-09-23 08:11:24 AM
Well so far so good...

Yes, by all means, show us Katy Perry instead of the friggin' race.

I don't think I've ever seen a purple lap set from the back of the grid:

I think Massa would kill himself if he was racing behind Karthikeyan...

2012-09-23 08:18:59 AM
hmmm 61 lap race, the softs are good for about 16 laps, the super softs are good for maybe half that....there's gonna be a lot of pit stops....

2012-09-23 08:20:54 AM
Massa had a tyre puncture and had to box on either lap 1 or lap 2; he switched to harder tyres, I think. That's why he's purple from the arse end of the pack.

/Mark pits

2012-09-23 08:22:44 AM
Bruno is having a problem with 1st gear...

Seb boxes,switches to Softs....

It pretty much does look like the stereotypical urban course in every single racing game.

But it does look like a neat place to visit.

God, I'd love to buy F1 2012, but after two hours of the demo, I can't justify spending $60 on a game where I crash on the first turn.

The game is too realistic.

2012-09-23 08:42:50 AM
Did anyone else in the states notice Speed is now saying races are "Subject to blackout"? Are they going to potentially black out the Austin race if not enough people buy their ridiculous PSLs?

Give GT5 a go. The physics, though realistic enough for many professionals, is slightly more forgiving -- you'll never be damaged so badly that you can't finish the race (most damage is magically repaired when you box), and if you run out of gas you'll simply be capped at about 45mph instead of stopping entirely (although most of the races where this can be an issue involve cars with top speeds of above 200mph)

I like to think I've got a good handle on the GT series (I was damn proud of earning my own licenses on GT2), but F1 is a different monster. Those cars are twitchy as hell.

Hamilton is coasting to a stop....

2012-09-23 08:48:34 AM
And Hamilton is out

2012-09-23 08:50:09 AM
Hamilton's third retirement of the season. Somebody better do something quick or they're not going to be able to catch Alonso.

2012-09-23 08:50:27 AM
Annnnd the downside of not letting teams change gearboxes whenever they want becomes very apparent...

2012-09-23 08:51:36 AM
Damn, hate to see that happen to anybody.

We do, the FIA? Not so much.

If you play GT5, give the Special Events a go. Special note goes to the X2010 (designed by Adrian Newey and tested by Sebastian Vettel), which makes F1 cars look like grocery-getters. All gold in those three events is ridiculous (roughly 2:10 to do two laps at Nuerburgring GP-Strecke, Monza and Suzuka)

/Seb is in P1 after Lewis' car went kaput
//have they yet figured out what went wrong?

BTW anyone want to wager that if Ferrari had a couple gearbox failures the rule about changing a gearbox would be quickly altered if not done away with?

2012-09-23 08:59:22 AM

King Something: have they yet figured out what went wrong?

Judging by the radio transmission to Hamilton they had a wonky gearbox in the car but they didn't change it so as to not incur the five position starting grid penalty.

2012-09-23 09:00:28 AM
Webber pits from P6, switches from Softs to Supers, exits in P11....

Just heard on Sky that they were referencing the last few laps in those radio transmissions. They had no signs of a bad gearbox yesterday.

If they had a gearbox issue during a Free Practice session, the rule likely would be amended or eliminated before Qualifying and certainly before the actual start of the race.

ahh ok

Yeah that's roughly what I was thinking.

I love the 70s era glitter paint job on Alonso's helmet.

2012-09-23 09:07:49 AM
And Karthikeyan brings out the safety car

2012-09-23 09:08:15 AM
Alonso is trying unsuccessfully to pass Maldonado; how long until Disaster is hit with a penalty?

/KAR is in a wall, safety car is out

How many laps until Alonso starts whining? Add one lap.

2012-09-23 09:11:11 AM
So the teams fly from Singapore to their home bases, then to Japan for the race in two weeks....yet the FIA is having a hard time figuring out where they could save the teams money....

2012-09-23 09:14:35 AM
And now the Pastor of Disastor has to retire. This is a bad weekend for the cars all around.

2012-09-23 09:15:17 AM
Alonso somehow managed to go from P7 to P3; I guess he didn't pit just no like Seb, Button and a few others....

Maldonado is out (hydraulic problem)

Safety car will go in once the back-markers regain a lap

UNC_Samurai: Pastor of Disastor

beautiful, just beautiful.

You know there hasn't been a nice engine fire in quite some time in F1. Wonder if we'll see one today.
