(Emmy Awards)   Will Mad Men beat Breaking Bad for a record breaking fifth award for Outstanding Drama? Is Zooey Deschanel's lame faux-geek quirkiness enough to beat Melissa McCarthy for Best Comedic Actress? It's the 64th Annual Primetime Emmys, 7 PM on ABC   (emmys.com) divider line 626

I liked McCarthy in Bridesmaids, but, it is difficult for me to gauge how good she is on Mike and Molly because it is such a god awful unfunny show.

Still no John Noble. Awards are worthless.

Go go Game of Thrones!

Isn't it kind of early for the Emmys?

I literally feel sorry for anyone that gives a fark about this. Deep pity. Like how one would feel if one meets a legless person at the grocery store.

Ty Burell and Julie Bowen should win again. As should Modern Family.

So, you want to fark the people who care about this?

Agreed. That show is generic as hell and gives her nothing to work with. It's not funny at all. Bridesmaids is the only reason she gets nominated for that show, which is stupid but that's how award shows work.

New "Hell on Wheels", "Boardwalk Empire", and "Copper". I'll be following online.

They moved up their schedule in hopes of it getting an Emmy.

"Homeland" for the upset!

Same, albeit no "Hell on Wheels," add on "Treme."

Who gives a crap about the shows, I'm just watching E! for the red carpet arrivals. Commentary forthcoming...

/ok ok, go Tyrion and Sheldon

For starters, Kelly Osborne still has that god-awful Dame Edna light purple hair color. At least it's pulled back in a dignified updo this year.

2012-09-23 06:11:14 PM
Kat Dennings to kick things off - grand boobage there. Nice dress color, hair is a bit sloppy, but I like her. I give it a B.

I'm pulling for Max Greenfield to win because I liked him on "Veronica Mars" but I have no intention of watching the ceremonies tonight. The shows I actually watch were either ignored completely or have already won an award or two.

Jena Malone - Not digging the dress, like the shoes though.

Same here =] I'm hoping for Peter and Jim to take home shiny new knick knacks. Maybe Maisie will get some love next year...

coco ebert: Isn't it kind of early for the Emmys?

No, it hasn't been scheduled this late in the year since 1984 (2001's was delayed by 9/11). It was held in August in 2010 and 2006.

Go Game of Thrones and Louie.

Mayim Bialik - very 70s vibe to it, good color. Not my style but she wears it well.

If they don't need to give it to Mad Men to make a new record, I say give it to Downton Abbey over all of 'em.

Oh. Strange. For some reason awards shows are in the winter/early spring in my mind.

Oh, and in looking at the list, I find it hilarious that there's not a single drama from one of the networks up for an award. There's two AMC shows, two HBO shows, a Showtime show, and one from the BBC under the guise of PBS.

The networks have ceded control of good drama to cable, haven't they?

Over their runs, yes. But for the seasons that the awards will be for tonight, no.

Of the four that I watch:

1) Breaking Bad
2) Mad Men
3) Homeland
4) Downton Abbey

Sorry, make that ITV1 for Downton Abbey.

I would love to see TBBT get an ensemble award from some award show at some point. They even nail the peripheral characters- the moms, Stuart, Kripke, WHEATON!!!

Maybe Carl will win the "Best Supporting Kid Who is Never in the House" award.

And Go Lori for Worst Mom not from Florida!

The movie awards that cutoff at the end of the calendar year are in that time frame. I think the TV awards are cutoff by the September-May TV season so that's why it's been in late August to mid September since the mid 70s. Also coincides with the new fall shows coming out so it's good promotion.

American Horror Story - that's a show I really should get into.

It's a coproduction between an unaffiliated UK production company "Carnival Films" and the American PBS production company "Masterpiece"

Hm.

You'd think that the co-producer of the show would actually show it unedited in the US, then.

I think it's just a sign that, much like the multi-cam comedy has given way to the single-cam comedy, episodic drama has given way to serialized drama. The networks just can't do serialized drama the way that cable can.
