I'm a somewhat past middle aged man who has had some experience with pot myself, who has seen first hand the damage that recreational drugs has done to friends, family and neighbors. I've seen some stoners who handle it responsibly, and also seen the ones who are brutal criminals to support their habits. Maybe when you get out of high school and see a bit more of the world, you'll realize that it's wrong to demonize everyone who doesn't share your narrow minded opinions. But.. I have little hope in your case.

Yeah, but the issue is not whether pot is a "good thing" - the issue is whether it is in society's interest to engage in prohibition of all things that are not deemed "good things". The argument that society needs to protect adults from all "bad things" is especially peculiar in that it often emanates from those who profess to believe in "small government" and "low taxes". You can't have a small, cheap government that child-proofs the whole world.
But I certainly don't think your being wrong about this makes you a "demon".
Perhaps you could lighten up, Francis.

I've never understood this criticism. How old is old enough? I've been jabbed with it before. I lurked for about 5 years before signing up. As someone who tends to switch handles pretty often yet has been hanging around this site since the day it became more than squirrel balls, must agree that account age alone is not a very good indicator of anything at all.

I took Ker_Thwap's post to be entirely serious and his replies did not seem any less sincere. I don't think he's a troll, personally. The problem is that it is almost impossible to tell someone who sincerely clings to wrong-headed notions and is willing to profess and defend them aloud from someone simply trying to incite anger in sensible people for fun because the end result is often the same.

For the record "it's illegal, duh" brings nothing to the conversation. It is also incorrect at this point in time, because what we are discussing is only situationally illegal. This indicates that there is in fact a debate about the sensibility of prohibition in general and as noted in the article, the cops looked for a posting claiming the grow to be medicinal which in many cases would have exempted the grower from prosecution entirely. It's never actually a valid argument when debating the efficacy or validity of a given law but in the instance in particular it is no more than the functional equivalent of "la la la I can't hear you".

Which brings us back to how people get labelled as trolls...
