FirstNationalBastard: Twilight Farkle: doglover: Dinobot: I always say the show is really good because it has good animation, good writing, good music, good voice acting and whatnot... that the show has pastel colored miniature marshmallow horses is completely inconsequential...

Pinkie IS Pepe le Pew. I'm not even joking.

In Party of One, there's a scene where Pinkie chases Rainbow Dash around Ponyville. Most of the chase is, shot for freakin' shot, copied right out of a 1950's episode of Looney Tunes where Pepe le Pew is in the Alps. If I had editing software, I'd do a split screen to demonstrate.

If you like Looney Tunes, you like FiM. You just don't know it yet.

And then they did it all over again in Season 2: Hearts and Hooves Day, Big Mac as Pepe le Pew, the lovestruck pony.

Or the tribute to Duck Season! Wabbit Season! Duck Season!, four minutes into Putting Your Hoof Down.

Umm. What doglover said about Pinkazoid, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries and Tiny Toon Adventures, which was the first time my parents ever asked my why the fark I was still watching cartoons?

Rule 34p. If there is no pony of it, pony will be made of it.

Let's not forget the two Benny Hill tributes, from the episode about the Phoenix, and from The Ticket Master.

Or that Mare Do Well is basically Darkwing Duck's outfit. Or the tributes to all kinds of things all over the place.

BUT DO YOU RECALL, THE MOST GRIMDARK IN JOKE OF ALL?

theMightyRegeya: Martha is voiced by Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity)

Tabitha is possibly the best of the VAs in the show. She has such a wide range of voices.

I remember hearing an interview with Creber and Corlett, their default voice is their characters, Peters doesnt sound so much as Scoots in real life.

Also, Kathleen Barr (Trixie/Chrysalis) voiced Colleen O'Reilly in ExoSquad (still my favorite cartoon ever)

Based on my last two comments, I want to point out I don't mean to say I don't like it. I get it, it's funny. I watch it with my kids, and don't have to be forced to. I don't get the...obsession.

It's kinda funny how small the animation world is. Some of the MLP virality probably arises from Faust's history with the Powerpuff Girls, which was one of the first toons to really make the jump across the gender divide in the 90s, and to Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (she's married to creator Craig McCracken) a few years later.

As long as the two of 'em are making toons, people will be watching 'em. Not everyone will jump headfirst into everything they've done in the obsessive way in which MLP's fanbase adopted it, but everything they've done is worth at least a cursory glance.

My Little Pony is a really rich world. The show is parsed down for kids, but there's some high drama there. 1000 years in the moon? God of chaos? Space bears and time travel? That's a fertile soil at least on par with Tolkien.

Add to that the ease at which anyone can draw a pony and the speed which the internet lets you share. Attract some top notch animators who enjoy the show and make their own contributions and Hasboro's really open and sharing attitude with the copyrights and suddenly anyone can do anything with the characters for free. Content explodes, fans fill in the back-stories for the ponies with no names, take show stories deeper, and make their own stories in general.

Every fandom has fan fics. In Japan doujinshi, or fan manga, is a common sight in manga shops. The ponies just hit America at a time when both American and Japanese animations are at a minimum. There hasn't been a really good cartoon with mass appeal in awhile, so the otaku types were getting pent up. So when the dam burst on FiM, there was a lot of potential artists and they all went for the same thing. Metric fark ton of good content overnight, practically. That's why it becomes an obsession.

There's two names I've come to associate with the death of the original Derpy scene. I don't know if they're actually responsible or even related at all, but I vehemently dislike these total strangers now because of that.

Seriously, I about died when Derpy talked the first time.

The good part is that Hasbro put the episode on DVD before the shiat hit the fan, so it isn't lost. But, I'm sure everyone will have to keep those original DVDs when Shout Factory gets around to getting season 2 out on DVD.

/and the Derpy changes are why I hope she stays as just a background character for the new season.
//Watched The Last Roundup again a while back, and the Derpy scene made the episode. Then you realize that there's still 20 minutes left after Derpy's big scene, and it feels like you've already seen the best episode ever.

I wish they'd put more of the Thunder Bucking scene into the actual show. I was confused as to what the hell they were doing destroying city hall with lighting. Turns out they have to kick storm cloud lightning out or it can fall uncontrolled and cause property damage.

I wonder if fan reaction to season 1 DVDs in December will be enough to get Shout to make Hasbro do the season 2 DVDs up with deleted scenes like the one you mention (and the original version of Last Roundup, since the full seasons are Amazon exclusives and supposedly marketed toward the adult fans)?

/season 1 was 3rd on Amazon's top sellers list within a day of being announced. I'm betting it'll sell way more than Shout or Hasbro expected.

I don't think they actually made it . It was just in the original script.

Animation isn't like acting. You don't have "outtakes" because each second of animation takes a long time to make. So they whittle the script down with voice acting a bunch first, then animate.

With live actors, you do a bunch of takes, then edit. With animation, you don't even make it till you've got the audio.

Not always. Sometimes things go over the allotted time. There are always fully animated, yet cut, scenes for shows like The Simpsons or Futurama or Family Guy.

I don't know if there are any deleted Pony scenes, though.

Exactly why I call upon her anytime I do something derpy.

For those wondering where the fark this thread's gone, Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo (originally an animation error involving a background pony with crossed eyes, with some fanservice later in Season 1) made an appearance in Season 2 as a male character voiced by a female voice actress who didn't know she was voicing a female character, and she came out sounding a little too derpy for everypony's tastes. Somepony took it too seriously, somepony else took the response even more seriously (In the name of Celestia, we should have all just sat there and done nothing), and that's pretty much what went wrong. And the audio was re-dubbed.

Yay, Applejack, woohoo!

Halloween is the one night a year a girl can dress sexy and not be judged as immoral by society. It's liberation.

The fanbase is younger than most of us older farkers. It's barely discovered the 70s/80s soap opera Dallas, and that probably only happened due to the 2012 reboot. The Shaffer reference has to be at least 5-10 years before that, which means the only people who'd get the reference would be in their 50s by now. It's only been a couple of years, give it time.

Girl and comic are such strong words. Let's say "That person enjoys illustrating pregnant nuns."

I'm all for equality and whatnot, which is why I'm hesitant to finger the alleged dissenters, as they share a certain quality that may ostracize them inherently. However, I've seen evidence that yes indeed they're at least pro censorship and that makes me anti-them for that reason alone.
