Ah yes, the "Sexy ____" costumes in time for Halloween. Sometimes I feel bad for women about that, but even the most reserved and bashful of them seem to enjoy it and of course I enjoy it purely out of respect.

Cool to see a blatant Pony thread greenlit. Heh.
I've noticed that Bronyism spread to the Sports tab, what an odd reversal of social trends that is.

As a straight adult male, I honestly don't care for the "sexy" version of Halloween costume. I think girls only do it because they expect that all the other girls will, so they don't want to be left out.

I'd much rather a girl wear something funny and/or relatively original than a generic costume turned skimpy.

Also, I have a sinking feeling that the outfits in that link are going to end up being worn by more males than females.

If the internet has taught me anything, it's that there are infinite permutations of sexual attraction and fetish. Honestly, the brony thing isn't even in the top 50% of the weird stuff. At least there, the objects of attraction have characterization and have human mental attributes. The ones that I can't wrap my head around are the people who have sex with inanimate stuff like cars and trees, or rub balloons all over themselves.

But, ultimately, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, I can't bring myself to care what other people find attractive anymore. There's too much farked-up porn out there (in no small part thanks to Japan) for me to get outraged about, before I realize that outrage would be pointless, anyways. Why waste my time and energy judging the tastes of people I'll probably never meet, and why does my opinion on it matter to them?

Has some of the same writers as Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends *AND* Sam & Max back in 1997 on Fox.

To say that it's "good" is an understatement, along with Adventure Time and Regular Show, it's the best written thing on television right now.

/And they didn't turn them into "prostitots" (God, I love Fark sometimes...) unlike Rainbow Brite. It's stupid, goofy humor that (to steal a TVTropes-ism) "Runs on nonsenseoleum". Plus, the plotlines that are patently stupid the characters/voice actors even seem to be in on. (Hence the, "Oh, come on!" line).
//There's a lot of visual references to both those shows in there, too. One of the episodes has a cloud shaped like Max's head and when going through her closet, Pinkie throws a Bloo doll over her shoulder.

Probably because it seems like a combination of bestiality and pedophilia given the target audience of the show.

What about those of us, myself included -- and possibly only including myself -- who aren't turned on by the ponies, who couldn't clop to them if we tried? My love for Twilight Sparkle and her friends may be a bit extreme, but it's the love of a big brother for a little sister. I'm told it's what the Japanese call "moë," except even that word has a connotation of sexuality because, y'know, Japan. That's not me. I just want to hug them and pet them and call them George.

Yeah, well, when people get attached to things like lolicons and other weird crap, nothing surprises me anymore.

I've just learned to nod, smile, and move on.

Also, Gat,

I owe you an apology. I called you a troll, but in thinking about it, I
realized that that doesn't do justice to what you do, and how I generally
regard you.

I find that a lot of times, we agree in general, although I don't think
I'm necessarily as militant or hard core about how things should be done
than you.

Aside from the 2nd Amendment/carry/self defense issues, which I doubt
we'll ever see eye to eye on (and I figure that's probably a factor of

I'm aware it's not for many, but surely you can see how the connotation is easy to come by? It's just such a creepy thing to attach to.

I'm necessarily as militant or hard core about how things should be done
than you.

Aside from the 2nd Amendment/carry/self defense issues, which I doubt
we'll ever see eye to eye on (and I figure that's probably a factor of
experiences and fundamental differences in upbringing, etc.), I generally
find you have interesting points and do enjoy reading what you post.

Well thanks. I thought you jumped to that rather quickly, but you aren't the first to say so.

This.

i.chzbgr.com

R34 (and R34b/R35: "if there is no porn of it, porn will be made of it") implies a linear relationship between the size of the community and the quantity of R34 produced. The size of the brony fandom implies a lot of R34, but it's compounded by R19, and compounded further again the high sensitivity of the fandom to the issue. It's a situation tailor-made for the production of terabytes of it, even if it's mostly for trolling than for clopping.

R19's an important factor in here - it really would be nice if there were a technology that could protect the show's intended demographic from the consequences of some R34 slipping past a filter. It's difficult enough to come up with image analysis software that can differentiate nude from clothed humans, let alone cartoon-colored ponies. A technology to protect kids (and only kids, us adults are on our own) from an unintentionally wrong image search really would be magic. I'm not willing to give up the First Amendment's stated principle of free speech and implied principle of free anonymous access to information "for the children", so I'm just grateful that GIS with safe-mode-on/moderate is surprisingly good at filtering things out while I'm at work.

Artists are perverts. You think the Impressionists painted balerinias for a reason other than to stare at teenage girls stretching all day, then you'd better look at the paintings again. Left to their own devices, artists will almost immediately draw sex, genitals, or sexy genitals.

Everyone has a kink, and your "kink may not be my kink". This pony love may be weird, but it's not even the worst out there. If you're not hurting anyone or anything, then let your freak flag fly. Just, in your own yard and not visible, ok? Not everyone wants to know your kink.

And don't "brohoof" me if I am sympathetic, that's plain stupid.

I like how Rainbow Dash Presents can take a steaming pile fanfiction, like Rainbow Factory, and make it actually compelling.

I also like how, because the show's done in Flash, most of the fanimation is on par with or better than the actual studio animations.

I like how Rainbow Dash Presents can take a steaming pile fanfiction, like Rainbow Factory, and make it actually compelling.

I also like how, because the show's done in Flash, most of the fanimation is on par with or better than the actual studio animations.

Picture Perfect Pony blew me away. How many hours of people vectorizing ponies and generating original characters did that take? I'm not sure I want to know. Same for the Double Rainboom project to create an entirely fan-made episode.

Right? Seriously though, it took 24 days over 3 months. Says it right in the info. You only have to vector each bit once, then you have a puppet and you can work with the angles and bits seperately after that. A day to make a puppet and an hour to cobble together some walking or something.

Even still, the voices, the music, the editing: it's easily as good as the real show. Possibly a little tighter. Then of course the fan comics. Veggie retired, but his stuff was rock solid comic material. I really can't wait to see what he does next, pony or no. You can't stop an artist that good.

I wish I "got" the brony thing. I really do. I mean, yeah, it's got stuff in it that is definitely there to appeal to the adults, but most popular kids' shows do. I about fell off my couch on one when Applejack said, "Oh, horse apples!" Couldn't explain that one to my kids. And yeah, Discord being voiced by John DeLancie made me perk up a bit. But...um...again, the stuff for the adults is for the parents/guardians/daycare people stuck watching it. And, God help me, this is coming from someone who has watched cartoons alone.

I could totally see watching Adventure Time without kids being around, though.

My Little Pony is, from an animation stand point, kind of like Tombstone was to western movies: a perfect blend of old and new talent with a good story to work with.

It was pitched by Lauren Faust (wife of craig mccracken) and has voices like Tara Strong and Kathleen Barr on board. Tabitha St Germain came with the Pony franchise, and while I was unaware she's damn good. Then on the animation you've got some really good people who've done other stuff, like Sibsy, who did a lot of Disney stuff, as well as the inspirations draw straight from Looney Tunes and other classic animation with the anime inspired gloss to make the ponies look less like hideous hippos of the previous generations and more like real cartoon characters and some really talented guys on music and sound.

Then take all that and give the characters decent personalities and an interesting wold. Previously, the ponies would sit around and highlight of the day was Pinkie having a pretend tea party with her dolls. In this incarnation, dragons attack, battles are fought, and every few days one of the main characters goes completely farking insane.

It's not for everyone, but if you like cartoons there's nothing better on the air in the past five years, including Adventure Time. Adventure Time is aimed squarely at the same audience that composes bronies, and has almost the same formula, but it's just not quite as good despite being solid gold.

I'd bet that beyond the last century - back through the ages adult males would reject their peers who had a propensity to indulge in children's activities.

I know there are some modern psychologists who champion the inner child expression/ageless happiness stuff but frankly most adult males find it repulsive.

But, as much as I dislike this man-child business, in the end, we all have one life on earth so...whatever makes you happy. Our society can exist today on an infinitely more diverse structure within the gender roles than we are/were programmed for.

Many of us are saddened by the loss of traditional masculinity in today's world, with a general sense of disgust that comes from a deeper place in our psyche and understanding of our gender and social roles.

Pinkie IS Pepe le Pew. I'm not even joking.

In Party of One, there's a scene where Pinkie chases Rainbow Dash around Ponyville. Most of the chase is, shot for freakin' shot, copied right out of a 1950's episode of Looney Tunes where Pepe le Pew is in the Alps. If I had editing software, I'd do a split screen to demonstrate.

PBS tried to answer that this summer, but they were also kinda trolling.

But you've already answered it - the same reason you (and I) enjoy Adventure Time. Or before that, Freakazoid, Animaniacs, and the original Warner Bros. cartoons.

As I remember the history, the original essay The End of the Creator-Driven Era brought it to /co/. The Wired Article from 2011 took it from /co/ and the chans to the nerd manestream. Watch a few pony-related videos, wonder WTF everybody's talking about, conclude that whateverTF they're talking about, this is obviously not the same MLP that you flipped past while looking for a new episode of GI Joe or G-Force back in the 80s, and decide to watch a few episodes just to see what all the fuss was about.

And that's how Equestria was made.

Tabitha is possibly the best of the VAs in the show. She has such a wide range of voices.

I remember hearing an interview with Creber and Corlett, their default voice is their characters, Peters doesnt sound so much as Scoots in real life.

Also, Kathleen Barr (Trixie/Chrysalis) voiced Colleen O'Reilly in ExoSquad (still my favorite cartoon ever)

It's kinda funny how small the animation world is. Some of the MLP virality probably arises from Faust's history with the Powerpuff Girls, which was one of the first toons to really make the jump across the gender divide in the 90s, and to Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (she's married to creator Craig McCracken) a few years later.

As long as the two of 'em are making toons, people will be watching 'em. Not everyone will jump headfirst into everything they've done in the obsessive way in which MLP's fanbase adopted it, but everything they've done is worth at least a cursory glance.

My Little Pony is a really rich world. The show is parsed down for kids, but there's some high drama there. 1000 years in the moon? God of chaos? Space bears and time travel? That's a fertile soil at least on par with Tolkien.

Add to that the ease at which anyone can draw a pony and the speed which the internet lets you share. Attract some top notch animators who enjoy the show and make their own contributions and Hasboro's really open and sharing attitude with the copyrights and suddenly anyone can do anything with the characters for free. Content explodes, fans fill in the back-stories for the ponies with no names, take show stories deeper, and make their own stories in general.

Every fandom has fan fics. In Japan doujinshi, or fan manga, is a common sight in manga shops. The ponies just hit America at a time when both American and Japanese animations are at a minimum. There hasn't been a really good cartoon with mass appeal in awhile, so the otaku types were getting pent up. So when the dam burst on FiM, there was a lot of potential artists and they all went for the same thing. Metric fark ton of good content overnight, practically. That's why it becomes an obsession.

There's two names I've come to associate with the death of the original Derpy scene. I don't know if they're actually responsible or even related at all, but I vehemently dislike these total strangers now because of that.

Seriously, I about died when Derpy talked the first time.

The good part is that Hasbro put the episode on DVD before the shiat hit the fan, so it isn't lost. But, I'm sure everyone will have to keep those original DVDs when Shout Factory gets around to getting season 2 out on DVD.

/and the Derpy changes are why I hope she stays as just a background character for the new season.
//Watched The Last Roundup again a while back, and the Derpy scene made the episode. Then you realize that there's still 20 minutes left after Derpy's big scene, and it feels like you've already seen the best episode ever.

I wish they'd put more of the Thunder Bucking scene into the actual show. I was confused as to what the hell they were doing destroying city hall with lighting. Turns out they have to kick storm cloud lightning out or it can fall uncontrolled and cause property damage.

I wonder if fan reaction to season 1 DVDs in December will be enough to get Shout to make Hasbro do the season 2 DVDs up with deleted scenes like the one you mention (and the original version of Last Roundup, since the full seasons are Amazon exclusives and supposedly marketed toward the adult fans)?

/season 1 was 3rd on Amazon's top sellers list within a day of being announced. I'm betting it'll sell way more than Shout or Hasbro expected.

I don't think they actually made it . It was just in the original script.

Animation isn't like acting. You don't have "outtakes" because each second of animation takes a long time to make. So they whittle the script down with voice acting a bunch first, then animate.

With live actors, you do a bunch of takes, then edit. With animation, you don't even make it till you've got the audio.

Not always. Sometimes things go over the allotted time. There are always fully animated, yet cut, scenes for shows like The Simpsons or Futurama or Family Guy.

I don't know if there are any deleted Pony scenes, though.

Exactly why I call upon her anytime I do something derpy.

For those wondering where the fark this thread's gone, Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo (originally an animation error involving a background pony with crossed eyes, with some fanservice later in Season 1) made an appearance in Season 2 as a male character voiced by a female voice actress who didn't know she was voicing a female character, and she came out sounding a little too derpy for everypony's tastes. Somepony took it too seriously, somepony else took the response even more seriously (In the name of Celestia, we should have all just sat there and done nothing), and that's pretty much what went wrong. And the audio was re-dubbed.

Yay, Applejack, woohoo!

But that's part of why we love her so much. (and it's required listening for any politics threads these days)

Strolpol: As a straight adult male, I honestly don't care for the "sexy" version of Halloween costume. I think girls only do it because they expect that all the other girls will, so they don't want to be left out.

I'd much rather a girl wear something funny and/or relatively original than a generic costume turned skimpy.

Halloween is the one night a year a girl can dress sexy and not be judged as immoral by society. It's liberation.

There are other reasons, but that's one of the big ones.

The fanbase is younger than most of us older farkers. It's barely discovered the 70s/80s soap opera Dallas, and that probably only happened due to the 2012 reboot. The Shaffer reference has to be at least 5-10 years before that, which means the only people who'd get the reference would be in their 50s by now. It's only been a couple of years, give it time.

That girl makes a comic about pregnant nuns, but she totally gets supposedly offended about the first Derpy voice?

Girl and comic are such strong words. Let's say "That person enjoys illustrating pregnant nuns."

I'm all for equality and whatnot, which is why I'm hesitant to finger the alleged dissenters, as they share a certain quality that may ostracize them inherently. However, I've seen evidence that yes indeed they're at least pro censorship and that makes me anti-them for that reason alone.

What influence they may or may not have had on cartoon shows I like is requires slightly more research. A shiat I'm not willing to give. I have links to post!

Nah, I do remember her tumblr posts where she was asking her fans to email hasbro and complain about the show being supposedly "ableist" and then claiming "Victory" when she got her way... the fact that she got Amy Keating Rogers to cry over her involvement in the episode, in spite of her having a disabled son, is enough to make we wanna vomit.
