Watching it last night, I couldn't tell if he was really serious about being pissed or if he was playing "the punk rebel character." Since they have a new album out and didn't return to the stage, my guess is definitely the second part.

That said, they were great to watch and him yelling at the lazy people in the crowd was great. I thought for sure that woman's dress was going to come down or that he was going to flash his balls to the crowd for lulz. The part with the two drunk dudes in the crowd singing and bear hugging him from behind was funny. Much better than your standard, I'm going to sing along to my own song and dance while a recording plays style of performance.

True, strange how that song was written by The Ox and not Pete. Figures, the guy who wouldn't dream to smash a guitar wrote a line about it!

Great song though. From a great album. Green Day wishes they were worthy of being roadies for The Who.

Well, that was weird.

Ah that was kind of fun even if it was mostly staged. TFA says Usher overplayed by 20 minutes, so perhaps they would have just let them keep going also if they kept at it.

Yeah I was gonna say, what, they're going to turn off the power on the band at 5 minutes over?

Yeah, well you aren't f***ing Joey Ramone either you eye-liner wearing taint stain, so stop acting all punk and get the fark off the stage.

/CSB: Saw them about 13 years ago on Warped Tour. NOFX was the headliner and they spent their entire set making jokes about Green Day was opening for them, despite Green Day's mainstream success. Billie Joe was not happy.

They rarely do. Usually takes 3 or 4 good slams on a well built guitar.

What a basket case. He should have stayed asleep until September ends. He looks like an American Idiot. etc.

Yep. They've actually got 3 albums coming out (Uno, Dos and Tres.) It's supposed to be a return to their "punk" sound, so yeah, I think he flipped his "punk mode" switch before he came out.

He may be a taint stain but "eye-liner wearing" isn't an insult in the realm of punk.

And their return to punk includes that abortion of a song that is played on the radio every hour? Oh Love? Worst god damn song ever written and the furthest thing from punk possible.

At least by saying it's an attempted "return to punk" they're admitting their music had gotten as punk as Avril Lavigne.

Does somebody want to take the time to explain Green Day to poor ol' confused me?

To the best of my recollection there was a time around 93 where Green Day was really big and popular but I was pretty certain that their popularity had already waned considerably a few years later. How is it that they have stayed relevant for so many years? I hear that today's Green Day is a different "pop" version that appeals to younger kids, this makes no sense to me. Maybe someone can give me a good analogy of a band that was before my time? ( I am 32 years old btw)

So, we were there last night, (don't hate, won free tickets) we assumed that he was just playing the punk role and biatching. Noone else had a time remaining sign on the prompter. I'm sure he was pissed about losing 20 minutes of set time though.

He spent way to much time biatching though. Could have finished basket case and played another song with the time he spent complaining.

What the don't tell you though is he flashed the crowd for a good 20 seconds. Not sure if that made it to the webcast at all.

Cant't take him seriously while wearing eyeliner and having a carefully styled shaggy look. But he's right. fark Justin Bieber. Hey, they might not be the Beatles, but Green Day is actual music. fark Bieber again.

If you're 32, then Green Day wasn't "before your time". I'm 31 and Green Day was a staple of my teen years.

After their Dookie succes fiddled off by the late 90s, they just got a second-career after American Idiot bombed. And by bombed I mean bombed the shiat out of sales because that made gangbusters. Y'know, actually being pretty punk if you think about it because it was mostly an anti-Bush anti-war rock opera conceptual album. Kids loved it so here they are enjoying stardom once again.

Their early stuff is pretty good, it was not purist Punk but it was quality stuff in the 90s and different than a lot that was out there. As for the popularity waning, it was but American Idiot brought them back for a few years (even though the last album was weaker). American Idiot was a perfect storm for a hit: first good mainstream concept album and it was right at the time where it was becoming more popular to turn on Bush (i.e. it would have flopped earlier/later it wouldn't have been as big if others got there first).

That said, many it'd be funny to see the Sex Pistols get told that they had 1 minute. Either we'd have witnessed a rant about how they didn't farking care because they were going to get paid just the same and blow it all on drugs and hookers OR they would have just decided to play and made the organizers drag them off stage. In both cases, it would have been awesome.
