Gergesa: YELLOL: Ain't nothing adorable about that big nosed commie. Give dead people the right to vote or Mitt will win!

And 21 million people don't have driver's licenses but still figure out how to buy malt liquor and cigarettes... go figure.

This is subpar trolling.

Hard to get good trolling on Shabbos.

whidbey: dickfreckle: whidbey: scanman61: But do you REALLY think the elderly are overwhelmingly Obama supporters?

They'd be stupid not to.

It's more than a little alarming that lots of old folks still believe in the GOP, even after they touched the "third rail." OTOH, since they're already old and any changes won't affect them, the old "got mine, fark you" mentality comes into play. This allows them to vote the way FOX and am radio tells them while still retaining the idea that it's in their best interests.

Maybe if they had a sizable nest egg, but retirees who depend on Social Security and Medicaid? That has to be a majority.

I know I know.... [CITATION NEEDED].

Oh no, what I meant is that the proposals we've seen from the right don't affect current seniors - a majority of whom depend on that income to make ends meet. That those proposals impact only those under 55 (IIRC) means they can vote for the flag pin and Jesus without guilt.

Eh, it's the standard "HURR you need ID to open a bank account bullsh*t." Thing is, NONE of the things they mentions (driving, buying booze, et al) are guaranteed rights afforded to all Americans. Therefore I ask,

Why do Republicans hate America?

They don't hate America. Just roughly 47% of the people in it.

Something they haven't paid much attention to - Medicaid - does screw over current elderly folks.

It's the major way we Americans finance long-term (nursing home) care. Medicare doesn't cover that. Usually what happens is if an old person needs to live in a nursing home, they go live there until they've spent all their money and assets, then they qualify for Medicaid, which does cover it.

Ryan's plan to block-grant Medicaid is also a 1/3 cut to it, and end Federal requirements on who must be eligible. That would certainly result in a bunch of elderly folks getting kicked out of nursing homes.

My mandatory contributions to voter ID threads:

1) If there's a requirement the address on the ID match the voting address, the purpose is to disenfranchise people who move a lot (renters) and college students. It doesn't add any security - the address you give DMV isn't any more secure or verified than the address you give the Board of Elections.

I run a polling place in NC, where we don't require ID (yet - I'm sure we will next year when both the governor and legislature are Republican). But my experience is that most of the people who show up who've moved and not updated their voter registration haven't updated their licenses either.

2) Someone will always "hurr durr how do we know there's no impersonation if they don't require ID?" The answer: we track who has voted, and that's public record (HOW they voted is not, of course - it's not even possible to tell how they voted if they voted on Election Day). This also prevents the same voter (registration) from voting twice in the same election.

If there was some epidemic of people impersonating registered voters, there'd be an equal and opposite epidemic of people getting busted appearing to vote twice, and/or a bunch of people showing up on the list of "who voted" who didn't.

Yeah, but didn't you hear today's amendment? Death panels. So vote Republican.

Gene Masseth: I'm more concerned about voting machines being rigged, and voting officials that just drive off with boxes of votes stuffed in the back of their hatchback never to be seen again.

Bingo, and when we look at election tampering, who do we find doing it....ding, ding, ding, ding...Republicans!

First she was just annoying, then I saw her nude scene. Her body is horribly misshapen.

scanman61: Your Average Witty Fark User: I would destroy her, and I wouldn't even care if there was a running commentary.

Oh, and she's correct, too.

I'll give her minorities and students. Hell, I'll even throw in the poor as a draw.

But do you REALLY think the elderly are overwhelmingly Obama supporters?

The AARP has been working overtime this election cycle. And they are frowning on GOP shenanigans.

I am absolutely surprised that every one of these Voter ID laws have not been tossed. All a judge really should be asking is "What is the legislative intent?" The intent is unambiguously voter suppression for one party.

TsukasaK: depmode98: If you don't have an ID in the fist place and your older and infirm, you can't exactly just get in your car and drive to your closest DMV which is hours away and get yourself a voter ID, now can you?

Then how exactly are you going to just get in your car and drive to the closest polling place which is hours away?

Would it really take that much time to get to a polling place? Aren't they supposed to be close to where the voters live?

2012-09-22 10:12:46 PM

tenpoundsofcheese: what a racist fark she is.

Voter ID laws are targeting black people...ohhh, the race card.

How about 0bama's economic policies are targeting black people since they have a much higher unemployment rate than average?

The pdf in this article (the blue "reported" link at the bottom) shows blacks have a disproportionately lower percentage of IDs, along with poorer/older people.

quatchi: Love me some Sarah Silverman.

Loved her efforts to help elect Obama back in 2008 and so far she has been doing even better here in 2012.

Adorably filthy lady comic is totes adorb.

Well, I suppose that's better than being Totes Magotes.

I hear ya. People talked about how big Lady Gaga's nose was and how odd her face was, and I thought "What the fark? She's beautiful!" Just used to the look, apparently.

Don't get me wrong, she is very good looking, but her "look how cute I am" spiel is not appealing to me. A little self deprecating humor wouldn't hurt.

You're being very generous.

Zerochance: It's informative while still being irreverent. I still don't find her all that funny. She's a lot like Daniel Tosh - she makes me laugh in the same way getting hit in the head with a hammer would make me bleed. When you overwhelm the audience with outlandishness, something will make you laugh but it doesn't mean you're funny.

But make no mistake, if Mrs. Z allowed it, I'd tap dat ass with fury.

Oh come on. I'm not a Silverman fan, but she tells jokes. Tosh is a creepy, vacant grin. A zero. Deer in the headlights.

so everyone who doesn't drive smokes and drinks?

Paul Baumer: They do if they are Negroes, apparently, or so I've been told. And they are all on welfare but have flat screens and 22" spinners too./

The thing is, pretty much all tvs are flatscreen now, and buying a tv is less than a car. Also, there's a lot of renting going on, both for tvs and spinners. There are three car accessory rental places within a mile of my house, and places like that and USA Rental ect. are all out there screwing these people left and right, since the interest and high rental fees wind up costing the poors who rent or rent-to-own way more than just saving and buying outright would have, But most of those places don't do credit checks because they are trying to trap these people into a bad agreement, and they have a lot of repo men at their disposal.

It's hard to manage when your credit sucks ass and your choices are so limited. Me and my husband are crawling tooth and nail out of the poorer end of things ourselves, but we've got a lot of credit issues to fix as we go. It's going to be a long slog out of the mud. Though the only welfare either one of us has ever used is food stamps, both around the same time when we first met. I was in a household, and we had gotten them together to help us pay for food, and he was on his own getting a $50 EBT card a month, which doesn't really help all that much. After a year, when we all moved out of county, we didn't bother to go apply again. But it did help a lot when we were all trying to get better employment, and we could eat a bit healthier and not be so worried that we wouldn't have money to buy food after rent and bills sucked everything away.

She's smart, funny and has an eminently tappable ass.

Personally, I find that combination irresistible.

YMMV, of course.

That should prolly be reiterated at some point. Bears. All that.
