Teenagers are loathsome. If they're not mouthing off or shirking their chores, they're inciting riots for their Sweet 16 parties.

Some revellers accused the police of over-reacting.

At least six people were hurt and 20 arrests were made as rioters vandalised and looted shops, setting a car on fire and damaging street signs and lamp-posts, according to Reuters news agency.

And a good time was had by all.

I wouldn't consider that ITG, most people go into that mode if something that serious is happening. One of my friends lived on Mifflin Street in 1996 when the riot occurred. He had a few friends in the house, but no random people he didn't know. His account of what they went through is scary as hell. He had windows broken, and they ended up barricading the house with loaded guns and clevers in hand. He's shown me some scary pics; one of his roommate pointing a shotgun at the door when someone was trying to break in, ready to shoot them if they got through. He said that wasn't the only time they had a gun trained on someone trying to get in. After it was over the police questioned them about an unconscious guy they found in the bushes with a broken back and alcohol poisoning, thinking he had fallen or been thrown from their balcony. The best they could figure was he tried to scale up to the balcony and fell.

/stays far away from Mifflin every year on that weekend
//2011 saw at least two stabbings, multiple rapes, countless batteries, police injured, detox center overrun, paramedics asking people to take someone with a head injury to the ER because they were in triage mode and didn't have the resources to attend to everyone, etc.

The family evacuated two days in advance.

She removed the event after oeople found out about it but some pranksters put up a new one. After that radio stations and some television news programs started doing daily updates about how many people were showing up. If it was restricted to facebook no one would have shown up.

cleveralthere: everything else is spot on but there were no rapes reported.

• A 20-year old Rock County woman reported that she blacked out Saturday afternoon and awoke inside an office building around 9:00 p.m. Saturday. She was missing her underwear, her purse, and other personal belongings. Madison Police were contacted about the possible sexual assault Sunday afternoon when she went to a hospital for an examination. Test results should help determine if there was a sexual assault.
• A 19-year old Sussex WI woman was found in a W. Johnson St. parking garage around 3:52 a.m. Sunday morning. She was clad only in a t-shirt and underwear. The woman did not know why she was in the parking garage, or how she got there. She remembers coming to Madison for the party, and did not think she had been sexually assaulted. The MPD later learned she did go to a hospital outside of Madison for an examination.
• Male, age 39, Madison, was arrested for fourth degree sexual assault around 8:20 p.m. in the 500 block of W. Mifflin Street after three women accused him of groping them. One victim said the suspect told her, "I'm a record producer," before shoving his hand down her shirt.

So I guess my recollection of the sexual assaults was a bit worse than reality, but women waking up in an office building they don't remember going into and missing their underwear, while only falling into the category of "possibly got raped," is still pretty farking bad.

Also, 1996 or 2011 happened when you were a freshman? It's hard to tell how old you are from that pic with the horrible sunburn and all.

Why did these people actually go to this thing? I sometimes get invites for random crap on Facebook and guess what? I never farking go. Hell, I don't think I've ever gone to an event for which facebook was the only method of invitation. Are the people in the Netherlands really THAT bored?

What would have been awesome would be if all 3000 of those people had showed up with a small gift for the birthday girl, brought a 6 pack of soda and a bag of chips, and acted like civil party-goers. But no....

My train home on Friday was re-routed because of this hot mess. I have never seen the volume of people I saw at the Zwolle train stop on Friday, like I did not even know that many people existed in NL. It was mental.
