I was always told you should be hung over when you get your driver's license photo taken because if you're wasted and the cops pull you over, you won't look much different from your photo.

It's true.

They also frown upon you giving the thumbs up. They don't find that funny at all.

On Tuesday, New Jersey resident Velvet S. McNeil told the Daily News that she was so baffled why she couldn't smile when she went to take her driver's license picture in Cherry Hill, N.J., that she left in protest. "Why should we all look like androids, looking mopey? I know there are some people who don't have good driver's licenses, but I actually keep all mine," McNeil told the Daily News.

But now that McNeil, 38, knows about the policy, she told the Daily News that she will return to renew her license.

Wait a minute... You mean she was so upset about not being able to smile that she stormed out of the DMV and didn't renew her license over it? Holy shiat. What are you, lady? An orthodontist?

What about smirking or snarling?

I don't know how it is in other states. But the lines at the DMV are getting insane around here in Jersey. Minimum 2 hours. So if this lady was dumb enough to give up her spot in line then she's too dumb to operate a car.

A few years ago Virginia redid their licenses, and I had to get my picture taken because I was smiling too much. You're allowed to lip-smile, but not show teeth

2012-09-22 09:19:41 AM
So, are they requiring duck lips?

I believe IL also banned it a few years back. I recall it was because a smile affects accuracy of facial recognition software, and your DL pic might be needed to track you some day.

yeah, they yelled at my when I tried to smile. I look like a farking serial killer.

I'm impressed he got the long hair on top to stop so sharply on that line. It almost looks too good not to be a Photoshop.

What DMV do you go to? I renewed my registration at the one in Tinton Falls and it took me a total of 1o minutes (because I forgot to do it online, where it would have taken me 3). When I had to get a new pic for my DL last year, I don't think I was there for more than a half hour.

When I renewed my DL the time before last, they asked me if I wanted to have my photo re-taken, since I wasn't smiling. I replied that I wanted my photo to be accurate and that I'm not usually smiling when someone asks to see my license, especially if they want to see my registration as well.

When I renewed it last year, they had a new rule: "No Glasses". Then the crone scolded me after the first attempt, because I wasn't looking at the correct spot on the far wall. After the second attempt, she scolded me because I was squinting...in at attempt to see the correct spot on the far wall.

You're not allowed to smile in Iowa either. But to be fair, there's really no reason to smile in Iowa.

No glasses? What about those of us who are not allowed to drive without them?

That's already marked down somewhere on the license as a restriction.  Doesn't need to be in the photo.

After two visits, each 3 hours long, losing papers from the state I moved from... I promise you I was in no mood to smile for my photo.

I think with hairspray or other similar products, that wouldn't be difficult.  I'm sure this dude doesn't wake up looking like that.

Oh, I'm sure they don't, but without my glasses I simply don't look the same.

At least you know that, I'm not sure. I have to take MS Gough along when I buy new glasses, since I can't see well enough to tell how they look.

As i said, I can't see shiat without mine (CSS). I would probably have trouble finding my car without them. I wondered why the new rule, and the crone at the DMV wasn't helpful when I asked. One possible explanation would be nhoj1962's point about facial recognition sofware.

Anyone else aggravated that laws no longer actually serve the purpose of defining criminal activity but have instead devolved into control measures?

Do you require glasses while driving?

If so, then that rule also defeats a license requirement.

Ah, okay. Identification is more important than ability or restriction.

Just Lojack us already.

Sorry, I realized I could have been clearer about the "No Glasses" rule. It was for the DL photo, not the actually driving part.

Thing is, I'm never going to be caught without my glasses so I have take my glasses off when my id is checked at the airport or if I get pulled over.

Are people getting multiple ID's that much of a problem?

If the shiat doesn't work if you're smiling or wearing glasses, how can it accurately be trusted to identify anyone ever?
