Heh, the headline doesn't even deserve a rebuttal argument for such a bad troll.

I like watching foreign films just to see the good actors from outside the U.S. who then come to Hollywood and have great careers.

It's not boring. YOU just need to be spoon-fed crap like 'Transformers'. Some people don't like movies aimed at adults and it looks like you're one of them.

And this:

As for Bardem:

In his interviews he seems like a genuine, decent person.
Plus he is banging the heck out of Penelope Cruz.
So good for him.

Black Swan was NOTHING like Perfect Blue outside the fact that the two leads were young women who hallucinated. Nina wasn't part of a pop group who decided to go on her own and become an actress. She was a ballerina. Nina didn't have a deranged fan base with one of them becoming her stalker. There was no rape scene. Nina didn't film a rape scene for a movie. She didn't have a manager who turned out to be a psychotic killer who was only trying to protect Nina's clean pop reputation. Nina didn't even survive in the end. Mimi didn't have a rival for any role. There was no lesbian sex dream in Perfect Blue. Mimi's mom? No show. Mimi is chased by her insane manager but makes it out okay in the end and goes on with her life.

You're talking about plot points. The overall themes of the movie, though - madness, reality VS fantasy, manipulation by others, etc. - we're extremely similar in both cases. Aronofsky stated on many occasions he was a huge admirer of Perfect Blue, to the point where he bought the rights to copy a scene straight from it to use in Requiem For A Dream.

There are also MANY scenes which mirror each other. They're not exactly 100% the same, but they are damn close most of the time, and on one or two occasions they're practically identical. Here's some comparisons.

As I said, they're not the same. But they have a similar feel. What I found is that almost everyone who loved Black Swan never saw Perfect Blue, and those who did see Perfect Blue didn't think Black Swan was all that great. Don't get me wrong, Black Swan had a lot going for it - great direction, good acting, etc. But I just don't feel the narrative was nearly as great as everyone else seemed to think it was.

Similar, maybe, but NOT the same by any means.
Any genre movie has similar themes to any other movie in that same genre.

Oh and, me and all of my friends have seen both and like both. That's probably a dozen or so you can add to your list countering what you said.

I think you missed my point.

NCFOM is an excellent film. It was a movie for people who want more than flat acting and explosions - mainly about 10% of the movie going public, also called 'adults'.

Like it, don't like it but calling it 'boring' shows a basic lack of understanding about films.

But "boring" is a subjective thing. People have different tastes and find different things interesting. It doesn't necessarily mean you have a "basic lack of understanding about film", it may just not be what he prefers. Of course, I'm making assumptions but I'm talking in a general sense.

For example, I thought Drive was boring. I know lots of people who liked it, but I felt it was a little too slow-paced for me personally. But I do recognize it is a well done film; good direction, good acting, etc. It's just not my style.

I liked drive.

I thought 'Old country' was farking dull as shiat and don't get why people violently jerk off to it.

I will freely admit that my favorite types of film are the simply insanely stupid ones, like Crank, Generally speaking, I find movies which build tension for the sake of being dramatic dull and uninteresting. I enjoy 'dramatic' movies like Drive, or The Machinist, or the Illusionist and The prestige. To me, most of the 'high minded' movies I see are just boring. Not because I fail to grasp the concept, but because I grasp it in a few seconds, and really, that's all the movies have going for them. I enjoy well written dialogue, but very, very, few movies ever achieve that.

Though I have no clue who/what the man Subby called out is.
