I hope this episode is better than the last two. Asylum was good, but not fantastic, and the last two have been... not good. Not "Fear Her" terrible, but on par with the crappier S6 episodes like "Night Terrors" or "God Complex", where you learn little about the characters and the budget is not big.

So, is this part one of a two-parter, or is next week just a stand alone Pond send off?

The four sisters to teach The Doctor about the power of three? I should think it would take just the jiggly-wiggly, bobbly-wobbly Phoebe and Paige to do that.

...And if they wanted to, with Amy, demonstrate the power of three for Rory, The Doctor and the audience, that would be better.

At this point i am kinda looking forward to the ponds leaving... i am kind of hoping they kill them off totally.. The last ep was ok.. dinosaurs was not good:( i liked asylum though..

BTW... the sister played by holly marie combs or whatever her name was, was by far the hottest (except the horrible trendy tattoo's on her wrists, but then again.. tattoo's destroy beauty)

So "tattoo" is pluralized with an apostrophe, but "wrist" is not?

I have wanted amy pond to be dead from the moment she arrived. Kill amy and rory, rory comes back from the dead (again) and him and his dad become new companions with that girl in the dalek.

sorted.

it`s quantum, being there and not there at the same time but the screen being digital shows one then not the other.

I dunno, for all the biatching, I think this season's been pretty fun all the way through. Yeah, it holds together through fridge logic, but that's hardly new- since NuWho started the episodes where nothing really makes sense have outnumbered the ones that do. At least since the handoff there have been fewer high camp moments- no fashion conscious sheets of skin, no Master-as-portrayed-by-Daffy-Duck, no glowy-Jesus-Tinkerbell-Doctor.

At worst, we get some episodes that just fall flat and feel like a mess ("Victory of the Daleks" is probably the worst Matt Smith era episode, which is sad because it had real potential to be a lot of fun). This season has been pretty enjoyable, if a little daft.

2012-09-22 12:38:21 PM
I have liked that each episode is only loosely related to the previous episode. There is not some big, hidden story arc where every little detail can mean something. The story arc is pretty obvious, no one knows who the doctor is, just like it should be since he technically died. Although, he still seems to be noisy as he still travels around and saves the day. Either way, I'm sure they will address that story in some later episode but for right now I'm enjoying the one off episodes each week.

I must say it: I'm going to miss Rory when he's gone. Bumbling oaf he may be, but he really rises to it when he needs to. Amy should have been killed off two seasons ago, and left Rory to try and clean up the mess as the Doctor ran around having fun.

Although, given the trailers already out for next weeks episode, I'm already pissed at Moffat. I'm sick of this half season bullshiat. Just give us thirteen episodes in thirteen weeks and a special for Christmas!

And for me the show improved considerably after he left. Tennant had a great first season but after that became so pompous and overbearing that I almost stopped watching.

Well.. in the first appearance of the Angels, we know that they effed with the lights (actually.. they did in their second appearance as well). And we know that they get at least one of the Ponds in the next episode...

So much this! Just finished watching the episode myself (thanks ExPat shield and live feed rewind!) and I enjoyed it. I want to see more of Kate and UNIT as I thought she interacted well with the Doctor. Also, Brian is awesome.

The fan girl in me was totally squeeing over how adorkable The Doctor was on the Wii, and Rory wearing those bright orange boxer briefs. Yes, I have no shame.

The Ponds are a little stale, but I'll probably sob like a teenybopper at a Monkees concert over next week's episode.

I don't know what you're smoking, A Town Named Mercy was a wreck and the weakest episode so far. That includes today's episode, which was rather alright. My rating so far.

Asylum of the Daleks - Five Wibbly Wobblys!

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship - Four Wibbly Wobblys!

The Power of Three - Three Wibbly Wobblys!

A Town Called Mercy - Two Wibbly Wobblys!

I enjoyed the episode. Loved the Doctor going stir-crazy, as well as disappearing the Ponds for 7 weeks on their anniversary.

I've liked everything so far this season to varying degrees. This one was okay, some good moments for some characters. I don't want to say too much in deference to those who are waiting, I'll just say that the ending bothered me because it felt very lazy. And the last thing Amy said made me throw up in my mouth a little.

I would love to see a Amy Pond/Rory family reunion episode sometime in the future. It would start out with a cake with 1980 on top of it and a happy 1980 or so banner (I'm not completely sure of the year) we start to think that it is a new years party we zoom out to realize that it actually Rory's birthday party. The Ponds and Rory's dad (not sure where the mother is) are partying when the door knocks and they open to find the Doctor with a present. Later the door knocks again and this time it is River Song. The door is knocked a third time with Rory questioning Amy who else she invited and then Amy questioning the Doctor if he invited anybody. The door is opened and standing there is the Doctor's daughter saying she wouldn't miss her Grandfather's birthday. Then Rory, the Doctor, Amy and River explain things. Rory's dad is shocked to learn his age thinking that the number was just a theme party. He then ask if Amy is also 1980 then she gets offended for someone thinking she looks that old. Later River suggests some mother/daughter/granddaughter/great grandmother bonding time and she loads the Tardis with all the girls and takes them to 1920's Paris for a shopping trip leaving the men in the current year. Meanwhile all the men decide to go fishing or something. I just really want an episode where River meets her grandparents. Hijinks ensue for both parties River and Amy save the day for the girls and Rory and the Doctor saves the day for the guys. The episode ends with Amy's mother asking the Doctor and River when they are going to have kids and the Doctor getting nervous at the question.

It was going pretty well... until they got to the ship and the writer had to figure out how to end it. Then he just decided that if the Doctor talked long enough, we'd assume the solution made sense. It didn't. Sigh.

Yeah it seemed liked they had run out of time and just wedged an ending in there. I liked most of the episode and was actually curious about the new "bad guy". Should have probably been a two parter. Also did that episode remind anyone else a bit of Torchwood?

Also, nothing at all became of the two nurses, they didn't bother to wake up any of the other people (leaving them to die), and nobody notices that they leave a dead little girl in the hallway?

I really liked the episode until they got onto the ship, then it just fell flat.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode, but unlike others I don't actually want the Ponds to die. I'd rather they just leave it at "it's time to say goodbye, don't come back because we'll be tempted to go with you again". Plus with them bringing up the death of companions and Amy's "or until we die" comment, killing them off would be too simple. It'd honestly be more poignant if it ended with Amy and Rory pushing him away for their own good, so they can get on with their lives. We had that with bit with Martha staying behind to help her family, but she still kept up with the whole alien thing. Rory and Amy need to just stop everything doctor related cold turkey.

I already watched it earlier today, along with last week's episode from the new season of Downton Abbey. The little black boxes are not really the important bit of the episode; it's watching The Doctor and the Ponds understanding the nature of their relationship that's the real heart, which means next week is going to be cruel.

That's kinda why I hated this episode. It had some great fan-service (Brian Cox, a Lethbridge-Stewart running UNIT), and some really decent character moments. But the core plot was an utter bore, and the climax of the episode was a villain monologue and then some frantic button pushing. We saw snippets of other adventures that looked a great deal more fun than this one.

And thus far I've actually quite liked this season.

Oh, also, anybody notice it was a Craig that got fired? I hope we see Craig again. He and Stormageddon, Lord of All Alfie are a great pair for the Doctor.

Ditto. It spent 52 minutes building up suspense, 1 minute introducing the alien bad guy (that wasn't even there to begin with), 1 minute solving the problem with the sonic screwdriver, 2 minutes stretching out the goodbye and 15 seconds on an unnecessary voice-over. That's not storytelling.

This really could have been a two-parter, though they're not doing those this season, apparently. I really enjoyed that 52 minutes of building up the suspense, for what it's worth.

IIRC, they're trying to bring Doctor Who in line with American show seasons.

Plus, the Beeb only allotted money for 14 episodes, so they did five now, then a Christmas episode, and the back eight next year.
