That really does not look like it should be at a skate park. What teen skaterpunk would want to associate with that mural?

2012-09-22 08:11:12 AM
I wonder if some city employee thought the mural was vandalism and had it painted over? It wouldn't be the first time.

2012-09-22 08:22:18 AM
Here's a local news clip showing the vandalized mural.

Someone probably thought they were being hilarious:

Gray wall → spray paint → colorful wall.
Colorful wall → spray paint → gray wall! HA!!

I sometimes wonder how jerks like that would feel if a few patient someones were to leap out of hiding with paintball guns and did some tagging of their own.

2012-09-22 09:45:17 AM
This, I presume, is on the list of things for why we can't have nice things.

All true art is ephemeral.

2012-09-22 09:46:25 AM
I figured they painted over it with grafitti, which would likely be an enhancement, but gray paint? That's just being rotten.

Crap graffiti covered in crap graffiti.

meh

Which could be an entirely different artistic interpretation. Ashes -> Ashes, or some other really deep meaning that the "vandals" wanted to convey. The fragility of life. We're here one minute and gone the next.

Vandals are dicks. However, in the future it's possible to cover murals with a protective coating to minamize this dickish behavior in the future.

2012-09-22 09:52:03 AM
Romney did it.

2012-09-22 09:52:22 AM
Ah, someone painted over the eyesore with gray paint.

If it's a skate park you don't want patterns and perspective distorting painting to screw up your perception.

2012-09-22 09:52:23 AM
She had to be aware someone was going to mess with her painting.

It was a shiatty mural. She got what she deserved. She went through all the work to get her art recognized but didn't bother to check and see if her art was worth recognizing in the first place. Consider it getting painted over as a protest against shiatty art.

Besides, the real artists don't bother getting permission.

Yeah, but when would they have time to do this? In the future??

I'm impressed that she was able to get through the bureaucratic red tape. 2 years; that kids more dedication than most "artists" have these days.

2012-09-22 09:58:16 AM
This mural is poorly designed and executed, but I doubt the vandals were beret-wearing art critics.

2012-09-22 09:59:13 AM
And no after pic in TFA. WTF is wrong with these "reporters" these days.

having viewed the before and after....
a) that was a planned attack
b) hope it wasn't like this summer's lesbian attack which turned out to be self-perpetrated for the attention

Maybe the city hired someone to do it. Now the artist has to buy another license. Free revenue.

ExperianScaresCthulhu: Sim Tree: I wonder if some city employee thought the mural was vandalism and had it painted over? It wouldn't be the first time.

First thing I thought of. Some city worker or railyard employee. Someone else came by and tagged the wall.

Also possible that she painted over some tags and the 'artists' decided to show her how it felt to have her hard work painted over.

More than likely someone was just trolling

That's what I was thinking. Maybe it wasn't a vandal as much as an art critic.

"You call that perspective? You learn this in Art 101."

2012-09-22 10:01:31 AM
I don't think that the artist researched the skate culture. Her mural looks like something out of a 13 year old girls middle school notebook.

I do like that Buff buffed the wall and tagged it with his/her name. That gave me a chuckle.

2012-09-22 10:01:58 AM
I wouldn't be caught in that skatepark. That is a mural? It looks like she popped some acid and ran back and forth with rainbow spraypaint and tada .. we have art.

I like future

It's a skate park. Vandalism is sort of a skater punk thing, yes?
It would be more surprising if it didn't happen so fast.

Oh, and I like how it looks.
wildcardjack raised a good point about perspective, though. At first glance it's to difficult to see that the dark purple area near the bottom is not part of the wall .

So, you took the time to make something nice where wannabe thugs and retards hang out and are then surprised that said wannabe thugs and retards to not appreciate your navigation through red tape, hard work and artistic talents and treat it with respect?

Where's the "dumb ass" tag?
