AlienDandelion: So my friend posted this and I just had to share because right after my sisters Jamama as being the most evil cat comes Ming The Merciless (the one who tried to drag a friends baby under the bed where she drags all her food to be eaten later...)

Speaking of adoption- I don't suppose anyone in West Central Illinois wants a cat?

I took one of my cats to the vet the other day for his boring problem (he has a permanently stuffy nose they can't figure out), when I recognized one of the cats they had. Like most small-town vets, they store animals for the local Humane Society, and I recognized this cat because he'd been there the last I had taken my cat in, six month earlier.

I asked, and they said no one would adopt him because he was black and an adult. He had a microchip, but his owner didn't want him back. I'd take him, but I'm already over the number of pets my lease allows. He seems like a good boy, but he's been in a cage for months :(

His name is Calvin, he's with the Schuyler County Humane Society and is at the Rushville Veterinary Clinic.

SkerriNinja: Heh. My Tub-Tub weighed in at 26 pounds for a long time. He ha measured amounts of food every day, and still managed to maintain the bulk. He was just a lazy fatass. Since he started getting wet food, he's like a different cat. Down to about 10 pounds (took a year to drop 16 pounds) and feisty. Hubby thinks that he's getting his last kicks in, since he's 15. He's like a kitten again.

Also, Caturday thread with so little replies? Is everybody asleep still?

This is a bonus Caturday thread. The regular one, which is a bit further down the main page, currently has over 280 comments.

Mister Peejay: Mr. Potatoass: A cat that size could top off a litter box with one dump.

We had a cat that was shaped like a basketball, with a softball-sized head and four stubby little legs.

Yes. Yes it could.

Worst part? He couldn't clean himself. One of the other cats used to do it for him, until my mom got him to stop doing that because you can lick your friends, and you can lick your butt, but you shouldn't lick your friends' butts.

Big fat cat who can't clean himself, no other cats helping him out, see where this is going? For years afterwards, they had to follow him around with a Kleenex and periodically wipe his butt.

My kitty Zuma seems to be unwilling or unable to keep his own butt clean so I grab him & use a few Boogie Wipes Link to take care of the job. It seems to shame him into cleaning his own butt for a few days! I almost always use the scented ones on him and he always has to make sure he gets rid of that scent! I figure something safe enough for human kids will be safe on my fur-kids.

shortymac: Go roll around in some poison ivy sometime and see what "all natural" gets you.

Heh!

Exactly. All natural doesn't necessarily mean it's good for you. Peach pits, for example, contain a form of cyanide. And obviously a lot of people, myself included, are allergic to various plants, which again are all natural. Why should it be any different for flies?

XplodedSynapses: Good Caturday all!
Another huge hug to you Alien! Always great to see you here!

My girl and i had us a bad scare last night. Holly, my cat's niece, was exposed to canine flea treatment with permethrin as the active ingredient. If anyone knows how this affects cats, you may well imagine how scared we were.
We took her to the Emergency Vet clinic at 1 this morning after anguishing for almost an hour over what might have been the cause of her distress. They wanted 98 up front to treat her and we scrounged with other family members to come up with the money.
The Vet discussed with us the likely cost of hospitalization (500+) and an optional cost of 'Outpatient' care (200).
We opted for Outpatient and the unpleasant duty associated with it. The staff bathed, treated and released Holly.
We were home with our twitchy little cat by 3 AM and a bill of an additional 100 dollars paid with a post dated check. Poor Holly was a little more alert, a lot less spastic and no longer prone to full out seizures. i was relieved but she wasn't out of the woods quite yet. i was thankful i didn't see her turn into a pretzel and stop breathing again- she did that before we made it to the clinic- i thought she was finished, but i digress.
We administered 750 mgs. of methocarbamol rectally to this poor creature over the course of the next three hours before she was able to calm down enough to sleep at 6 am this morning. She dozed off with my beloved and awoke around 10 am with out so much as a twitch.
i am happy to say Holly is a little weak, but regaining her former catty nature with each passing hour!
We know now that her exposure was not accidental. My beloved's mother, in an effort to be thorough, used Sergeant's Flea and Tick Treatment on Holly and her own cat, Cosmosis. Cozzy, as we refer to her, has not exhibited any signs of reaction to permethrin, but we bathed her for good measure.
i refrained from remonstrating the poor woman as she has used this product on Cozzy for som ...

I'm so glad to hear that Holly is improving.

Indeed I do. I also know that both of Dan Curtis 1970s era movies, "House of Dark Shadows and "Night of Dark Shadows are set to be released on DVD & Blu-ray on October 30, 2012.

About freakin' time too!. I had hoped that they would finally make these movies available on DVD after the release of "Dark Shadows" (2012). My VHS copy of "House of Dark Shadows" is getting to the point where it's almost unwatchable due to being so worn out.

Try a generic Feliway collar first. Link The pheromones help to calm down kitty and helps a lot of cats. You also have to make sure you get rid of ALL of the urine smells on the surfaces with a special cleaner. Use a black light in dark room to find all of the spots (I use a black lightbulb in a small clip-on type light fixture and long extension cord.

That was my first try doing that too. I was told by a friend that the other bird was a Chickadee-not sure why he was going at the feeder, I have a little bird bath in the backyard for water, and the birds know it's there for sure. Other birds have been hitting that feeder other than the humming birds, really don't know why. I've had that feeder out there for years and this is the first year I have seen non-humming birds try to drink from it.

I wish I lived in that area because I'd adopt him. Don't give up hope though. Last week one of our Caturday thread commenters adopted a cat that had been at the humane society shelter since 2010. Our Tilly had been at Greenhill Humane Society for a little over a year when we found each other.

Your cat is spraying to mark territory. There are several ways to deal with this. Pheromone collars, pheromone plug-in diffusers, as well as drugs, occasional outdoor trips, etc.

Talk to your Vet. If s/he doesn't offer some solutions, find another Vet!

Dang! Didn't the vet have any suggestions of meds to try? If not, try a different vet. I hope he shows back up soon, the little brat! Are there outside cats where you live that he could be responding to? Maybe some cat repellant may be in order for the outside.

2012-09-22 10:43:07 PM
GoldSpider, good luck. I too hope he shows up soon. Besides different meds as akimbotoo suggests, he may need to live on a farm where it'd matter less if & where he marks. "ALL zis territory is MINE, for miles & miles around!" he may be trying to convince you.

Children aren't consuming the fragrance when they use these wipes. Your cat is swallowing it. You really should check into it's safety.

GoldSpider I use a product frm the vet called" The Equalizer". It is a spray you use to remove pet stain/odor. It reeeaaally works. Had a cat pee in my cat, which then sat in the sun all day long( while I was working). By 3:00 that car was ripe! The spray took car of the smell, and broke down the oily residue of the cat pee. Would would never know there was a problem. Also if you have carpet..you might have to pull sections up and replace the pad. Treat the floor underneath as well.

Good luck! Eip if you need a moar private ear...
