Sometimes I have these very realistic freaky dreams. One of them featured Putin having a dissenting scientist put into a cage with hungry Siberian tigers who then ate the man.

Russia has always been a trend setter when it comes to this kind of thing.

She was jailed for dealing with people trying to make heroin.

Just like she would be in the united states.

I fail to see why this is a Russian problem.

2012-09-21 10:09:14 PM
If there's one thing I've learned from The Gulag Archipelago it's that "You can't just put someone in jail for X" is never true in Russia.

/ "They just sentenced me to 25 years in here! For nothing!"
// "You're lying. We all know the sentence for nothing is 10 years."

Laws against the desecration of the church are in place for a reason in Russia. Ask Pussy Riot about why the laws are in place and the only response would be a Tolstoy quote.

No. She dealt with the defense attorneys of a man who was under suspicion.

I would post a mockery of what the "former" Soviet Union calls justice...

But since Italy beat them to it last year by prosecuting geologists for causing earthquakes with sheep's bladders, well, not really much to say here.

/ And don't even get me started on creationists and global warming deniers... Hey, perhaps we can finally find the "missing link" in the newly-navigable Northwest Passage!
// Not really necessary, for those who don't get the joke.

Proof that just because you have capitalism, doesn't necessarily follow that you get freedom (or democracy)

I don't know anything about Texas. But Russia is more capitalist than we are in the US. The rich run the show there.

If she were a scientist studying lesbian sex amongst incarcerated female prisoners, then putting her in jail is probably the kindest thing you could possible do.

Say, is she that Russian scientist who used to sell sex pheromones over the internet?

2012-09-21 10:21:22 PM
Sounds like she pissed off the prosecutor for not giving him what he wanted and her life was turned upside down because of it.

2012-09-21 10:23:04 PM
This sort of pits industries against the Russian prosecutors, doesn't it?

The first Ivan Someonevich who runs a few billion dollars worth of large post-Soviet Russian bakeries, who realizes the implications for themselves will have a talk with someone else and this will go away.
