How did the artist erase the connecting lines in the one with the 3 eggs?

Where are the connecting lines?

Some lookgood/bad enough to be legit (Mona Lisa). Otherwise, nice PS skills, but no way you did that all with those farked up little knobs.

Just a theory - after you draw the first egg and connecting line, turn the thing upside down at an angle. Gradually tilt until the connecting line is filled, but stop when the powder reaches the first egg. Then turn it over and start drawing the second egg. Repeat.

2 and 5 barely even rate on the "meh" scale. Copying art doesn't make the copy any good...and the reproduction of the Mona Lisa isn't even any good as a copy. The rest are varying degrees of awesome...if real.

When I got to number 8, the author talked about the artist doing the impossible and not knowing how it was done...how about the Occam's Razor answer? Rather than imagining some sort of magic trick that does the impossible, how about looking at the obvious answer...it's just a fake, photoshopped (or hell, made in MSpaint).

Tested this out and it works.

I used to do pretty nice sketches with etch-a-sketch. It's just a matter of practice.

those were fun. ever see the Asian fellow who manipulates a piece of paper (but does not remove until finished) in a old typewriter to make artistic scenes? his stuff is neat too.

maybe politicians would do more well if they had to submit proposed bills & laws using etch-a-sketch.

I thought these might have been made by removing the back and using a stylus to draw the image on the screen rather than using the knobs. Anyway you do it, the artist has done a much better job than I could unless I used a camera.

My thoughts exactly when my daughter showed these to me this week.

The eggs impressed us the most

Translation: I am not creative enough to imagine how this might be done, nor do I understand the mechanisms involved well enough to reason out how this might be done, therefore I declare it to be impossible.

Your Etch-a-Skepticism needs shaken up a bit, friend. Your bullshiat detector seems calibrated to produce too many false positives.

You'll notice on his left (our left) eye there is a small diagonal line.
And on Buzz's helmet the person just colored back (over the part the red line obscures) and then up again.

I can't even make a circle on one of these things.

1 = Fake
2 = Real
3 = Fake
4 = Fake
5 = Real
6 = Fake
7 = Fake
8 = Real
9 = Real
10 = Real
11 = Real

You cannot change line quality or thickness with an Etch-a-Sketch; shading is limited. Straight horizontal and vertical lines are easy, straight diagonals of any degree are impossible to repeat with any consistency.

/... I can tell by the pixels...

Although, I suppose one could just crack the front open and erase the lines like that, although, I'd consider that cheating.

The Toy Story one is a pencil sketch.

The eggs? Been a long time since I touched an Etch-a-Sketch, but couldn't you draw one egg, move the stylus to where you'll start the next one, then turn it over at an angle and carefully clear the connecting line just up to the first egg, draw, rinse, and repeat?

Shennanigans. Microcontroller and stepper motors; there's even open source projects on how to build arduino controlled etch a sketch mechanisms. Even software to turn a .jpg or whatever into a line art path.

I did a lot of etch-a-sketch art in college. (I did the Last Supper) Even won a few competitions. But there is no way that the 'coin' portion of the Obama picture is possible on an etch-a-sketch. Look at the letters, each clean and no connecting lines. Sorry folks, but tilting to erase lines may work on those eggs, but not for the really fine detail that is in the coin.

I call bullshait.

I see visible connecting lines on the I and T in "president"... on the O in "of"...The D in "united"...
Maybe we'd see em better with a higher resolution pic...

Most of these are fake. Jeff Gagliardi did some drawings, including the disconnected eggs - but he has 35 years etch-a-sketch experience. I doubt you can get to the degree of complexity we see in the other drawings.

Pops

Some of the more complex ones are probably computer made as djh0101010 pointed out.

There's tons of videos on youtube of peole using their puters and servos to do etch-a-sketch art...
