does it not seem like they should have a warrant to turn off facebook ? at what point do we tell the cops, no you cant just get whatever you want with no oversight just to solve some farking crime ? they can just turn off your water, phone, electric, internet... this guy was actually farking up, but what about when you just write an essay they dont like and they shut it all down and starve you out ? id rather one guy gets taken hostage every few decades than cops get unlimited power every day.

Mimic,

Not sure if serious. Read the FB ToS, they can shut you off for whatever reason they feel like. It's not "your" Facebook, it's their Facebook they just let you use it.

My wife works in that building, so she got the day off WITH PAY. The shiat started going down before she got there, so she wasn't even able to get in.

well yes i know that but GAAHHH no one and no company should just give in to police request considering their behavior over the past ...forever. Facebook should have just said, "hell no we are getting crazy hits off this, do your own dang job."

also, screw this FTFA "Another worker, Sarah Vereb, said she was at her desk when she was ordered to leave the building shortly after a friend called to report that she wasn't being allowed up from the lobby."

One guy on one floor has one hostage and completely unrelated companies on other floors are shut down ? why not lock down the entire eastern seaboard, i mean, he might flee the scene !!

jesus, people need to not be such pussies, this whole "lock down" shiat should be abolished in every form, If i want to stay at work it is my damn call. now id probably take the rest of day off and get a beer and tell mt friends i narrowly escaped cause i was on that floor using the spare restroom when the gunman dove out of the elevator and rolled towards me while drawing a bead on me with teh laser scope and i had to do a parkour flip over a desk to survive , but it should be my choice.

To be fair, the guy claimed he had a bomb. In general, when someone says they have a bomb, clearing the building is the rational thing to do.

Oddly, someone else I know in Pittsburgh recently had an episode that resulted in him being committed. If I were the paranoid type, I'd start thinking there's something in the water.

Speaking of which, what was the deal with the Pirates when they played the Brewers this week? With the exception of a few innings in game 3 against the Brewers, they were just awful.

First: You don't know me - you are just casually aquainted with me.

Second: At the time, it was only illegal in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Northern Alabama.

Thirdly: I wasn't "committed" - I gave a generous offering to the zoo and they dropped all charges and then I took an extended vacation.

God I hate the internet.

Your choice? Really? What about the rest of society, who would have to watch you die if you and your testosterone made the wrong call? Do you have the right to 'choose' that the rest of the world can never get to know you, that you can never contribute to society?

I'd imagine it's like Facebook should have 'chosen' to make a dangerous situation worse when random people would have been able to go on and shoot their mouths off. Think it through. Don't just assume people are being pussies. I'm as anti-intrusion as anyone, but some stuff happens to protect us.

I once had a Philly cheese steak samwich. it wasn't in Philly mind you, and I've never been there before, and Pittsburgh is all the way on the side of that state, of which, I am in a different state some 500 miles away,

but man, all that hit really close to home.

these are frightening times we live in.
I had to go home and hug my kids. Even though I don't have any.

Stay safe every one!

Quite a lot of Gateway 3 is locked down, you can't get off the elevator without a card-key on many floors. I suspect that more businesses in the building with follow suit. If I want to visit my wife at work, she has to come down and escort me up.

I take it you've never had a high empathic reaction before...they hurt like fark. That's why people hold giant candlelight vigils for victims of tragedy and stuff. It's one thing if some poor shmuck gets caught up in something, but sitting on your ass because 'It's MY LIFE herpaderp!' is pretty much slapping anyone with a normal-to-high range of empathic reaction in the face.
