This is democracy. Awesome, guys.

2012-09-21 01:23:21 PM
That's nice.

They should also let the militias know the nuclear devices they have are just shoddy bomb casings filled with used pinball machine parts.

2012-09-21 01:31:18 PM
I can only hope that this is a sign that sane people there who want peace and prosperity for their nation will ultimately prevail.

Someone better green this.

2012-09-21 01:36:22 PM
30,000 is a huge number for a country with less than 6 million people.

2012-09-21 01:37:53 PM
I hope the media gives this the attention it deserves.

...Checks the "Big 4" websites: nope, not on their main pages at all. Fox still apparently stuck in the events from last week, and putting as much political spin on it as possible:
s7.postimage.org

...Checks their "World News" pages:
CBS: Nope not on the page (Moscow Police Probe Suspected Mass Dog Poisonings is on the top!)
NBC: Nope, not on the page (Pakistan 'Day of Love' protests over film turn deadly on top)
ABC: Yes, but on the side.
Fox: Yes, but on the side.

Odds of violence in the anti-violent protest: 3:2

This is definitely going to be a big story in the mainstream lamestream palace guard in the tank for obama MSM media media media media media.

Why is Obama's explanation of an attack in Libya different from his explanation of protests in Egypt? What's he hiding?

A fact that will be easily ignored by those who continue to say, "Why don't those people ever stand up and speak out against X."

You really expect domestic media to cover that? There's no ratings in good news.

Actually the coverage of this is pretty sparse, even in int'l media.

Al Jazeera has a piece on it, no photographs to speak of, though: Link

Yeah, well, until every single person in Libya personally sends me a handwritten apology letter then it won't be enough. No surrender.

These colors don't run!

It's sort of a reverse 'No True Scotsmen', iddinit?

I honestly don't know how they go through life completely, pants pissingly terrified ALL THE TIME like that. It used to piss me off, now I just feel sorry for them, and a little sad for the rest of us.

I'd have to agree. I'm not finding any pics at all.

AP picked it up, also Reuters and Yahoo.

Still no pics.

Something I read that I agree with from personal experience and shaped my view of these protests
In most middle-east countries, the government has TIGHT control of the media. No movie is made, newspaper printed, or photo printed without explicit government approval. Thus the people from these countries have no frame of reference for what is considered "Freedom of speech" in the United States. They simply can't grasp the concept that a movie was made in the United States that was not authorized by the United States government.

2012-09-21 02:49:13 PM
I have to admit... I did NOT see this coming.

2012-09-21 02:52:16 PM
This is just plain stupid. Last week it was clear that I was supposed to hate all brown people because they threatened my way of life, now you tell me it might not in fact be all brown people! Get your story straight America, how can foreign policy be simple enough for Fox if the objectives keep changing.

Some foreign relations guy was on NPR saying even sophisticated people in those countries don't really get it. He was talking to a doctor (IIRC) in Tunisia (IIRC) that couldn't understand how the government couldn't stop the video tape.

I was speaking to someone on FB living in Karachi, Pakistan (a Farker, actually). He said this is the first time he's ever felt as if he may need to move to another country. It's gotten really bad there with all the derp. Some of his friends are caught up in, too.

I can imagine that must be like having to deal with Tea Partiers*1000.

I'm sure they'll ignore this entirely.

If it bleeds it leads - and "people demonstrate peacefully to end violence" is pretty much the opposite of that. Sadly, I'd bet that if a gunman opened fire on the march then it would make the news.

This.
I want to believe that moderates are taking the reigns of power back from extremists.
It just doesn't seem as likely in these parts of the world.

/or in any part of the world, for that matter.

You're supposed to do whatever it takes to continue hating the Brown Man in the White House with the heat of a thousand burning suns. Everything else is secondary.

Cool.

So does this mean that the Libyan president is right, that the attacks were done by non-Libyans that the US was warned about?

2012-09-21 03:02:29 PM
Well, when somebody complains about moderate Muslims not complaining enough about radical/violent Muslims, point 'em to this.

I wonder if the Fark Foreign Policy Experts will take back their calls to commit mass killings of Libyan civilians by cruise missile?

Doubtful.

Gee, and I believed the Fark Stormfront Brigade when they said all one billion Muslims are violent. Now I feel like a bigoted asshole.

Fox News Command: Deploy!

Tens of thousands of Americans visiting Libya today spontaneously protested against the actions of militias in Libya. Millions of hardened terrorists stared from their sand caves, pointing Chinese-delivered weapons at the crowd, but not firing because their bullets were made in China. When will the violence stop? When will their awful Allah be finally ended? We report, you deicide.

Imagine if we had a 3D IMAX viewing of Avatar for the Libyans. They'd probably flip their shiat.

I think the current belief is that it was Al Qaeda in retaliation for droning their #2 guy, a Libyan national: Link

But there's an investigation going, so hopefully we'll get better info than that.
