All my Republican friends are going to blame this loss on the media not covering Obama's horrible job. They have a built-in excuse for why the worst candidate run by either party in 60 years is losing.

Good point. Ryan and Santorum are evil, but they're not the coward that Mitt is. Even if they're crazy, I have a bit of respect for anybody who actually tends to say what they really believe to whoever will listen.

-Ryan boo'd throughout speech to AARP

-McConnell runs away from press instead of defending Romney
-Ann Romney gets mad at Republicans for throwing Mitt under bus
-Romney release 2011 tax return artificially manipulated not to not make him a liar

I've been checking out Drudge pretty regularly, lately. His headlines differ substantially from every other political reporting site. If Drudge were your sole source of news, you'd almost certainly think that Romney is winning the election in a walk. The headlines at Drudge are the absolute opposite of what's being reported by the NYT, Washington Post, Politico -- hell, even Fox "News."

In other words, Drudge is shilling awfully hard for Romney. And, he's shilling for Romney awfully.

Any guesses on why a closeted gay man would be the principal cheerleader for a candidate who's campaigning to, at best, keep him in the closet -- and, at worst, criminalize his behavior? This is a serious question.

Probably on the payroll. Romney probably remembers Drudge from when he 'took down' Clinton, the staff thinks he is still relevant. Money talks.

When the GOP is getting old white people in the South to boo the shiat out of them during an election year, something has gone horribly wrong.

Horribly wrong for them, I mean. Not for me. The world is always a better place when Republicans are hated enough to be taken out of power.

As Romney often does, Ryan is expected to take a swipe at the Democratic incumbent's reelection slogan. The released excerpts include, "But you know President Obama's slogan, right? Forward. Forward into a future where seniors are denied the care they earned because a bureaucrat decided it wasn't worth the money."

I swear I have been paying attention the last few months, but I still can't help but be shocked by the brazenness in that statement.

I'm not familiar with the exact details of Ryan's medicare plans. I thought he exempted oldies (those over 55) from the "cuts" (his private voucher system). So basically the people that paid the least (current retirees) would receive the most and the people that paid the most (the rest of us) would receive the least. Is that not right?

In essence, but there are two main problems: 1) Most seniors don't want their children to be screwed. and 2) The changes wind up screwing over the over 55s anyway, because of a reduced pool and some other technical issues. There are some good writes ups floating around, but I can't find one right now. Maybe someone knows of one. Long story short, Seniors hated the plan anyway, even though they get theirs

It's not just their kids and grandkids. I'm 57, but my younger sister is 54. She's been paying into the system longer than I have as she worked while she raised her kids. I stayed at home. Just because we're old does not make us selfish. Being Republican, on the other hand . . .

They had the OPTION, in the first draft. Old people are not inherently more selfish than the rest of us, so plenty of them had a problem with being bribed to support a plan that was clearly bad and didn't relish the thought of having to do more paperwork to keep what they already had. Also I think quite a few didn't trust him to keep the "opt-out" portion of his plan or the fact that his plan was going to bankrupt medicare sooner than the current GOP plan, (i.e. looting its funds for pet projects and tax cuts)

"You can get to common ground on these problems if you treat people with respect,'' Ryan said. If elected, Ryan said, he and Romney intend to "be magnanimous and work with Democrats'' on issues affecting older Americans.

Ryan looked at medicare and social security and said this is a disaster sure to happen.

Ryan proposed a solution sure to be politically unpopular but a realistic opportunity to address the problem.

Democrats did not use the opportunity to say "we don't like your plan, let's work together on another plan."

Democrats showed Ryan pushing granny in her wheelchair off a cliff.

Ryan is one of the few people that can make Romney look likable by comparison.

/ Yeah, I'm a little slow sometimes
// not that either of them are remotely likable

yeah, and Dick Cheney made Dubya look likeable, and then he shot someone in the face... I have no where to go from here.

Cletus C.: Ryan looked at medicare and social security and said this is a disaster sure to happen.

Ryan proposed a solution sure to be politically unpopular but a realistic opportunity to address the problem.

Democrats did not use the opportunity to say "we don't like your plan, let's work together on another plan."

Democrats showed Ryan pushing granny in her wheelchair off a cliff.

Moopy Mac: mrshowrules: Ryan speaking to the AARP. That takes some brass.

They know damn well that once Romney got elected he'd push them off a cliff. It was like the cops with Scott Walker- they knew that they'd get screwed once Walker got done with the teachers.

Smackledorfer: Ryan is a dishonest pos. He wants to cut it too, only to pay for rich rax cuts instead of alternate health care stuff.

Basically this.

I'd be alright with the Medicare cuts if it went to paying off the debt. But since his dumbass plan consists of more tax cuts, the gain in revenue from Medicare cuts would most likely be cancelled out by the loss in revenue from more tax cuts.

I could believe one of two things.
One, that small government is so important that it trumps a lower standard of living AND that any level of oppressively large taxes and interference with the market is A-ok if it is a state governor pulling the strings, except when it is about the bedroom or drugs, or ...

Or i can believe there is a huge population of ignorant people who can't put together what they are told one day with either the actions of those doing the telling or what theyget told the next day. All run by a group whose primary goal appears to be getting them and their friends richer.

He's a total dick and one of the worst kinds of trolls--the kind who trolls just to stir up conflict and then sit back and laugh, knowing that he really agrees with everyone attacking him. Makes Romney's narcissism look tame and benign by comparison. It always has to be about him.

Attention whore isn't quite as bad an epithet in my book as hypocrite, but it's pretty damn close.

Its that voice. I've heard that voice before. I'm sure seniors have too.

He was talking down to them.
There is some quality in his voice that I associate with someone wanting something from me but doesn't want to give anything in return. Romney doesn't have that same quality in his voice.

He has the voice of an asshole.

Noblesse oblige? Condescension? That kindly tone so useful for dealing with one's inferiors? (That's from a book, but I can't remember which one)

Yeah: Asshole.

Cletus C.:

Well, Ryan and Republicans didn't have the ability to force the Ryan budget through both houses, into the eager hands of the president, pissing off the opposition party to the point of gridlock since, but sure.

You don't think, perhaps, that the people giving a party a majority in both houses and the presidency might indicate that the people wish them to enact their declared platform? That they have the right or even the obligation to pass these things that they always said they would do?

Elected representatives representing their electorate is like rape.

Apparently there is a for-profit "American Seniors Association" for the conservative senior citizen. It's not very popular, which is nice to see.

randomjsa: More like Paul Ryan continues to tell the truth about Medicare, ObamaCare, and entitlement and liberals continue to seethe over it?

You in particular have a big problem differentiating "seething liberals" from "people hugely amused by the continuous and escalating fecklessness and incompetency of the Romney campaign". Maybe they're the same to you.

You know what's really weird, and I don't know how many people have this problem.

Sometimes when I'm talking with people about technical issues particularly at work, I hear myself getting pedantic and condescending. I have no intentions at all of being that way, and in writing I guess you can get away with it better, but in conversation I can sound like a pompous blowhard even worse than a Ryan or a Gingrich.

OK, confession over. Now serve me, plebeian dogs.
