I'm starting a new travel company called Detroit Adventures mostly targeted at twenty and thirty something males looking for a bigger rush than Vegas. Basically we'll set you up with a car and costumes and provide a guide and you can act out your Mad Max fantasies while cruising around greater metro Detroit.

Also this pic is from the 18000 blocker of Bricker, I would be more shocked if everyone didn't have a gun.

The Google pictures depict a young man holding a long gun on the porch of the Brinker home and then pointing it directly at the vehicle taking the images. The face of the armed man and several others captured in the images are blurred.

You know, any other city, and that's an assault rifle at best, and probably an AK-47. In Detroit, the reporters know their firearms.

Cleveland has $1K lots for gardening. They will let you put up a fruit stand.

Post-industrial is happening, and needs to be studied. Gary, Indiana, isn't much different, though more proximate to me.

FTA In Detroit, having a firearm on personal property is not illegal and no permit is required.

WTF, are there places in the US where having a firearm on personal property is illegal or permit needed (not counting weapons that are illegal themselves)

Yeah, there's the people, but there's also great people. There's the thugs, and then there's that unkillable spirit of Detroit. It's like retard strong.

The government is of the people, but it's also exploiting what's left of the carcass of Detroit. Someone needs to go in and save them from the shiat they're chained to, but it's also a train wreck that you can't help because racism.

At least the state of Michigan has stepped in. Maybe with semi-adults in power, rather than the asshole freakshow that runs the place, there might be some changes in how things are done in Detroit.

Until Detroit finds its absolute bottom to crash into, there won't be a rebirth.

Detroit is actually a nice city - until you get into neighborhoods like these. Problem is, there are a LOT of neighborhoods like these.
I used to dread getting lost when I went downtown for concerts or other events when I first started driving.

You may want to stick to the inner city if you're looking to fulfill your Mad Max fantasies.

The metro area is pretty boring.

Actually, the kid is pretty smart, he has a degree in mathematics and one in CS. He is doing a database job and takin' it easy. The 'burbs of Cleveland aren't east Cleveland. He isn't the most motivated, but just got sick of the high rents and living expenses of Chicago. Also the people here, bland but superior. Let's say he got sick of bein' a FIP.

Greater metro Detroit is fine. Even downtown is fine. It's some of the residential neighborhoods in the city that are the problem. There are some areas that, if you must drive through, you simply do not stop the car for any reason.

$44/month...and still a total rip-off.

Detroit...it's New Orleans post-Katrina all the time, minus the high water, plus cold weather.

i'm currently considering a move there for work. when i've been looking at rental listings, I've been shocked by how expensive they are in certain neighborhoods. a new 30+ story rental tower in downtown has one bedroom apartments starting at $1400 a month, and is almost fully leased.

and for the jobs i'm looking at in Detroit, the pay is the same or better than similar work in my hometown of NYC.

that said, i'll probably end up in Hamtramck, which is a tiny city within the Detroit city limits. Why? It has its own police force, with an avg response time of 5 minutes vs 35 minutes in Detroit.

You should look into fabulous Ferndale as well... It's about 4 miles north of downtown and is, for the most part, a fantastic place to live.

/planning on moving there myself once the gf's lease is up

ZOMG you guys this one time I was driving to go to the stadium downtown to see Nickleback, and we took a wrong turn and went into a BAD neighborhood. I saw black people, or "brothers" as they call each other walking around "the hood". Fortunately, I was able to turn around and get back on the interstate before anything "went down".

My neighbor is friends with a cop out here in Tipton, and he says that he's heard that if you are anywhere in the city at night then you should run every streetlight because otherwise they will get you. They don't care. Even kids.

Or as the brothers say in the hood, "you will get got". That's what they say.

It would be a rare commute to have to drive through the rough neighborhoods of Detroit on surface streets unless you live or work in one.

wxboy: This is also old news.

What is news is (FTFA):
The photos were taken at the same Brinker Street home where a 1-year-old girl's dead body was discovered in a closet in June shortly after relatives reported her missing, according to public records.

It's not every day an internet meme gets connected to the murder of a 1 year old.
