"Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," Romney told the Radio Iowa show yesterday.

LOL.

Would you like some cheese with your whine, Mrs Romney?

There's a time and a place to ask the GOP to stop being mean to her husband, but a radio show is not it.

Maybe she thought it was only being broadcast to the GOP leadership?

From Ann Romney's preposterous mouth:

"It's time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt's qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country."

And what qualifications and experience are we talking about? Mitt's certainly not running on his gubernatorial record. If he talks about Bain he'll have to release his tax returns. So, what have you got for us "lucky" people, Ann?

A Farewell to Harms: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124716984620819351.html (can't hyperlink WSJ)

Just two years into his first term, President Romney's disastrous Unchained America Act of massive tax cuts for the wealthy and wholesale deregulation of Wall Street has led to an economic disaster far greater than the '08 crash. Some economists are calling this new downturn the Greater Depression. In other news, 87 US soldiers were killed today in blasts throughout Iran by the increasingly emboldened insurgency.

In a radio interview the First Lady addressed protestors across the nation, saying that we should stop criticizing the president because being president is difficult, and Mitt is trying as hard as he can.

I think everyone has focused on the wrong quote.

"It's time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt's qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country."

There is so much inherent wrongness imbedded in that statement, I don't even know where to begin. Apparently, she's saying...

A) Republicans don't realize the significance of the presidential election
B) Republicans should feel grateful that Money BooBoo* is running at all...
C) ... because his qualifications are so damn impressive, and
D) She believes that, if elected, her husband will be "running the country"

I've never seen a party rebel against its presidential candidate like I've been seeing with Romney.

This is the second presidential race where they ran a moderate candidate with a Teabagger running mate that resulted in a disastrous campaign. I've got to believe the "He wasn't conservative enough" faction is going to win the internal GOP Rebuild discussions. I'll wager a paycheck, well... welfare check with a month's worth of food stamps, the next presidential campaign will be a Teabagger with a moderate mate and the result will be a campaign with more LOLz than this one.

That encapsulates it entirely. It's their patrician contempt that they can't hide and seem genuinely surprised when called out on it.

And it's a huge flaw for Mitt. I am positive he doesn't listen to his advisers. Mitt does what Mitt wants to do and everyone falls into line. I swear the reason he needs all that donor money is to pay for Xanax for his staff.

I think he does everything that is suggested in the morning campaign meetings. He just forgets what was voted down as ridiculous and what was agreed on as the message of the day.

Mercutio74: From Ann Romney's preposterous mouth:

"It's time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt's qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country."

And what qualifications and experience are we talking about? Mitt's certainly not running on his gubernatorial record. If he talks about Bain he'll have to release his tax returns. So, what have you got for us "lucky" people, Ann?

We should feel honored that someone of his stature and breeding should ever deign to think about leading people like us, uncouth wastrels that we are. The fact that we don't just give him the position he so richly deserves is the height of ungrateful uppishness.

Mr_Fabulous: I think everyone has focused on the wrong quote.

Entitled? That word doesn't even scratch the farking surface.

*Feel free to steal this, it isn't mine

(B) is what stood out for me.

Are they seriously that arrogant??? (rhetorical question)

Yep.

Another insight from Peggy Noonan -- Romney needs a new "CEO":

Mr. [James] Baker's central insight: The candidate can't run the show. He can't be the CEO of the campaign and be the candidate. The candidate is out there every day standing for things, fighting for a hearing, trying to get the American people to listen, agree and follow. That's where his energies go. On top of that, if he's serious, he has to put in place a guiding philosophy that somehow everyone on the plane picks up and internalizes. The candidate cannot oversee strategy, statements, speechwriting, ads. He shouldn't be debating what statistic to put on slide four of the Powerpoint presentation. He has to learn to trust others-many others.

I pretty much expect Mitt to come off very stiff and uncomfortable. Lots of awkward moments.

Mitt has been able to avoid being specific about a lot of important issues and that's not a good way to go into the debates. He'll be stuck either repeating vague non-answers or trying to lay out policy details for the first time with Obama waiting for his chance to reply.
I think he'll try to stay vague and I don't think that will play well.

Muta: I've never seen a party rebel against its presidential candidate like I've been seeing with Romney.

If you're right then that knocks Christie right out of 2016. And he's 1000x more likeable than Mittens. He might actually have had the charisma to get somewhere, except for that whole, social moderate thing.

It just cannot be stated enough how exceedingly entitled these people are, to the point where they resent any form of accountability.

Look lady, Mittens is running a shiatty campaign. Just awful. He is accountable to his party for it, and if they want to light a fire on his ass to get his shiat together, they're well within their right.

In the normal works, yes, having MS will get her a pass for many things. In the political area, disabilities aren't an excuse for saying insane things. Otherwise we'd just elect the most disabled person as president and be done with it. She had an opportunity to stay out of the campaign and just be Mitt's wife. But when she talks publicly about the campaign she is open to criticism just as any other campaign worker would be.

Let's not also forget the direct attacks on Michelle as well, as well as casting her as some kind of nefarious type for wanting kids to eat healthier.

"Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," Ann Romney.

No, that's not hard. Hard is physical labor like pulling damp heavy lumber off the green chain.

You who live a life of leisure, you who live a life of ease
From your mansions in the city to your yacht upon the sea
Does your conscience ever picture on the tablet of your brain
The sad thought men in misery out on the long green chain.

When the ponds are full of timber, Jack-ladder's running wild
The sawyer in his carriage has the bandsaw set and filed
From the headrig to the trimsaw, through the planer moves the chain
Of that endless pile of lumber out on the long green chain

See the grader eye the lumber as it moves along the chain
With his keel he makes the grading, marks it down for knot and grain
These salutes to profiteering we treat with complete disdain
For what's it mean to those of us who work out on the chain

When the shift boss hits the button you'd better look alive
'Cause the lumber it comes rolling like the bees out of a hive
And you'll feel your sweat come pourin' as each muscle screams with pain
And you'll wonder if it's worth it working on the chain.

Jim Monroe

In 1986 a private equity company took over Pacific Lumber which had been in business for over 100 years. Pacific Lumber had no debt, had a huge inventory of 200,000 acres of old growth redwoods, used selective cutting, no clear cutting, and had a sustainable forestry plan that stretched for 100 years.

The private equity company borrowed money to gain control of Pacific Lumber, and immediately accelerated the cutting of all old growth redwoods to pay itself fees and service the debt. It instituted the cheaper to use, redwood forest destroying method of clear cutting to maximize short term profits. Pacific Lumber lost over 1000 jobs between 1986 and 2008 when it went bankrupt.

The Romneys don't believe that labor makes business possible. They believe only in owners and executives.

I think he'll try to stay vague and I don't think that will play well.

Not having his positions known may be his only chance of surviving the debates; if Romney unveils his actual policy details during the debates, Obama won't have had a chance to dissect them beforehand.

Think about it, what is left in life that is a challenge to him? He was born into wealth. Took some of that money and tried his hand at buying businesses and stripping them for parts. No problem, now he made his large fortune into and enormous fortune. That was too easy. Became governer, boring! The only real challenge in life is to be better than his father at something. He thought that his wealth would do that, but he has come to realize that no matter how much wealth he amasses credit for the original nut comes from Papa.

But wait. His father ran for President and failed. If he can win this election he will finally one up his old man!

Yes, Mitt's threshold for adversity is so low he can't even handle a little henpecking from the "little lady".

If American history has taught us nothing else, we can feel comfortable in knowing that it is very hard for a rich white man to become president. Especially compared with a Latino. Can you name a single time where a white man went against a latino in the general election and won?

No I can't even point out where a rich white guy went against black guy and won recently, in a general election. Mitt did beat some black guy for nomination I think, that seems like ages ago.

Ann Romney to attend private fundraiser in Las Vegas

Ann Romney will visit Las Vegas on Oct. 1 to attend an evening fundraising reception for her husband, GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, at Miriam and Sheldon Adelson's home, according to an invitation to the event at the generous GOP donors' Summerlin residence.

The Romney's seem to love these events and despise talking to the common folk. Making promises to rich people without the press there.

I still say there's a small but non-zero chance that Mitt will overflow a memory buffer and the entire nation will be treated to the scene of a major party presidential candidate getting a beatdown by the Secret Service as he lunges forward, his hands lusting for the neck of the President of the United States.

I've been saying something similar for a while: as this wears on and, and he's operating on 3 or 4 hours a night sleep and endless travel, he'll at some point just snap and slap a staffer, reporter, or some random person who just happens to get in his way by not showing the deference he's always felt he deserved.

So I honestly question Mitt ROmney's decision to run. It seems monstrously selfish given his wife's condition

Well, he IS monstrously selfish.

That is what this is about.

This seems to be a recurrent theme with Republicans; expecting (read: "demanding") that their candidate have people bowing, scraping and groveling to them be treated with respect, tact and kid gloves...but it's perfectly acceptable for them to not only disrespect, but to sling any shiat they can find or make up at their opponent.

The thing that gets me is I would absolutely love it if all sides could be civil and constructive in their disagreements and criticisms. I often challenge people in the real world who are "on my side" but being dickbags to be better about it.

But this - it's just unreal. Your husband is running for President of the United States and will have to deal with people wanting to literally KILL him, you, your kids and extended family just because, I don't know, he one time ate a pretzel with golden mustard rather than hot mustard, so if he wins you'd better develop a goddamn thick skin. If she can't handle gentle criticism from his own party being leveled at her husband, how in the hell will she keep from spontaneously combusting the first time he actually faces REAL opposition?

She's also weakening her husband's ability to do his job ENORMOUSLY. Anyone who wants to make Mittens emotionally compromised (I'm assuming he has that chip installed even if it frequently malfunctions) just has to make his wife go all angsty and make that a nice little goad during any discussion.

Why is anyone on that campaign letting her do anything but smile and wave?

metztli: Why is anyone on that campaign letting her do anything but smile and wave?

Mitt is micromanaging that campaign. That's the only explanation why he chose Paul Ryan, the guy who is just like him, against the advice of his staff. That's why the campaign decided to go with the empty chair/Clint Eastwood gag. That's why he went out disheveled and panicked at 10 p.m. to try to do damage control on his 47% video. That's why he decided to give his tone-deaf criticism of the President over the embassy attacks. That's why all his management are starting to point figures wildly.

This is Mitt running Mitt's campaign. The people that work for him are just his secretaries, making sure that the arrangements are in place for his speaking engagements and fundraisers. He won't talk about his time as CEO of Bain, but we can see now how successful he is at managing a 9-figure operation.

Are the big meanies hurting little Mitty's feelings? Is he gonna go sulk in a corner until they stop saying mean things about him? Jesus, grow the fark up lady. This is politics. If your husband can't handle a little well deserved ribbing over his asinine remarks then he shouldn't be campaigning for the job of leader of the free world.

I get the feeling the Romneys aren't used to having to answer to anyone about anything.

That encapsulates it entirely. It's their patrician contempt that they can't hide and seem genuinely surprised when called out on it.

I keep wondering what's going to happen at the debates when Romney has to deal with a black man that is younger than him and that outranks him and cannot just be dismissed.

/ Yes, he may just call him 'boy'

Goddamn, that would be beautiful. It's going to be a slaughter.

Her statement is indicative of the overall PANIC that is gripping Rightwingistan these days because deep down they know Mittens is blowing it BIG TIME.

One ultra Conservative friend of mine has been going on for days on FB about the "LIBERAL BIAS IN THE MEDIA" and how horrible it is. He's blaming the media for drawing attention to the fact that Mitt keeps stepping on his dick on a daily basis while giving Obama a pass. He's becoming more deranged as each day passes.

You know when you start bellyaching about "THE MEEEDIA", it's like an admission that you know you're going to lose, you're just lining up your scapegoats.

Regardless how badly they want Obama to lose, it is very hard to get any of them to admit they actually like Romney.

Alternately, many Liberals like myself are happy to admit that they like Obama.

I've asked all of them at one time or another. Not a Fark Independent™ nor a single individual I know will say they support Romney. They will all say "Obama is a disaster" but no one can shed any light on how or why Romney would be any better, in fact, they decline to even try to answer beyond "he's not Obama" and that's all they need to know.

Unfortunately for them, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Ted Bundy weren't Obama either. Doesn't really help them in their argument.

Even Limbaugh has admitted this isn't about being FOR Romney, it's about beating Obama.

2012-09-21 03:27:30 PM

I thought many months ago that it was at least possible that Mitt Romney would be more cautious about telling falsehoods as the election drew closer. After all, candidates can get away with more in, say, April than in September -- there's far more scrutiny now.

Alas, Romney seems unfazed, both by the calendar and by life under a microscope -- he keeps repeating falsehoods without any real concern for consequences. In case there were any doubts about his worst habit, consider the 35th installment of my weekly series, chronicling Mitt's mendacity.

1. At an event in Sarasota yesterday, Romney said, in reference to President Obama's comments about engaged citizens changing politics, "The president today threw in the white flag of surrender again."

That's not only a lie; it's also one of the dumbest things Romney has ever said in public.

2. At a Univision town-hall event in Miami, Romney said he opposes an economic model in which we "take from some to give to others."

Actually, Romney's preferred budget plan redistributes wealth at a level unseen in modern American history.

3. Romney also said, several times, "[T]his is a campaign about the 100 percent.... My campaign is about the 100 percent of America."

I seem to recall watching a video in which Romney said it's not his "job" to "worry about" 47 percent of the population.

4. At the same event, Romney boasted, "When I was governor of my state, the state of Massachusetts ... we brought unemployment down to 4.7 percent."

Well, in reality, the unemployment rate in Massachusetts dropped because so many people dropped out of the state's workforce. The fact of the matter is Massachusetts' job creation record during Romney's term was "one of the worst in the country," ranking 47th out of 50 states.

5. In response to a student's question about federal aid, Romney said, "We're going to continue a Pell Grant program.... So I care. I care about your education and helping people of modest means get a good education and we'll continue a Pell Grant program."

That's not what he said during the primaries.

6. On health care, Romney said at the same forum, "The government is going to ultimately have a board that tells you what kind of care you can receive."

This is in apparent reference to the Independent Payments Advisory Board (IPAB), and what Romney's saying isn't even close to being accurate.

7. In a Fox News interview, Romney said, "I have got great support from seniors, because they are unhappy with the fact that President Obama's Obamacare cuts Medicare by $716 billion."

Sigh.

8. In the same interview, Romney insisted that the Affordable Care Act "tells us what kind of health insurance we have to have."

As Romney surely knows -- his state-based policy works the same way -- the whole point of the Affordable Care Act is to provide consumers with choices of private plans, made available through regulated exchanges. Giving people choices and telling people "what kind of health insurance we have to have" are opposites.

9. Asked about his affiliation with Kris Koback, Romney said this week, "He may well be part of a policy team [but] I have not met with him yet."

As his campaign later admitted, this wasn't true.

10. Speaking to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce this week, Romney said, "The administration promised us that its policies would have brought unemployment down to 5.4% by now."

That never happened.

11. Romney added, "[M]y Plan for a Stronger Middle Class will create 12 million jobs by the end of my first term."

Putting aside the pesky detail that Romney doesn't actually have a specific jobs plan, the fact remains that if we do nothing, we're on track to create 12 million new American jobs over the next four years anyway.

12. In the same speech, Romney said, "President Obama has not initiated a single new trade agreement with Latin America. I will."

He's trying to slice the truth in a way that misleads. In reality, Obama finalized three separate trade deals in his first term: Panama, Colombia, and South Korea.

13. In reference to China, Romney argued, "President Obama may think that announcing new trade cases less than two months from Election Day will distract from his record, but the American businesses and workers struggling on an uneven playing field know better."

This just isn't true. Obama just didn't bring a new case at the WTO against China "less than two months from Election Day," he's been bringing these cases throughout his term.

14. Romney also said, "Many Hispanics have sacrificed greatly to help build our country and our economy, and to leave for their children a brighter future. Today, those sacrifices are being put at risk by a president who cannot stop spending."

Government spending is down, not up, under President Obama.

15. Romney went on to boast, "I know how to balance budgets. We balanced our budget in my business, at the Olympics, and every year in my state."

He balanced his budget at the Olympics thanks to a taxpayer bailout, and in Massachusetts, Romney left his successor with a deficit.

16. On federal spending, Romney said, "[M]y test is this: is the program so critical that it is worth borrowing money from China to pay for it?"

The implication here is that U.S. debt is financed by the Chinese, but this isn't true -- China only holds about 8% of the nation's debt.

17. Romney added, "The president has put us on the road to Greece."

That's painfully untrue.

18. Romney also argued, "No wonder business start-ups are at a 30-year low."

This still isn't true.

19. Romney went on to say Obama "plans to raise the federal income tax on small business even more."

In reality, Obama has repeatedly cut taxes on small businesses -- by some counts, 18 times -- and if given a second term, his tax plan would have no effect on 97% of small businesses.

20. Referencing the Affordable Care Act, Romney said, "The Chamber of Commerce surveyed 1,300 of its members. It found that three-quarters of them said they are less likely to hire people because of Obamacare."

The "survey" is a joke. The Chamber, a pro-Republican lobbying institution heavily invested in helping Romney, put up an unscientific online survey. Treating this as a legitimate poll of businesses is fundamentally dishonest.

21. Romeny added, "Obamacare ... is already depressing job creation."

There's literally no evidence to support this, but let's also note that Romney created a nearly identical policy at the state level, and it didn't depress job creation at all.

22. On immigration policy, Romney said, "Despite his party having majorities in both houses of Congress, the president never even offered up a bill."

First, the president has endorsed all kinds of immigration bills. Second, having majorities in both chambers doesn't change the fact that Senate Republican filibusters blocked immigration policymaking.

23. In his weekly podcast, Romney said, "President Obama has imposed major new federal regulations at an unprecedented rate."

Well, it depends on what Romney means by "unprecedented." He may be surprised to learn that Obama approved fewer regulations in his first three years in office than Bush did in his first three years.

24. At a campaign event in Painesville, Ohio, Romney suggested it's Obama's fault that the price of "gasoline has doubled."

To call this comically misleading would be an understatement.

25. In the same speech, "I've got a [jobs] plan, all right. Unlike the president, I have a plan."

Romney doesn't have to like the American Jobs Act, but he shouldn't get away with brazenly lying about its existence.

26. Romney also argued, "The president believes in having a government put money out into companies. He put $90 billion into solar and wind, and green-energy companies. He's picking winners and losers.... He doesn't understand that the market where free people pursuing dreams and working to take their ideas to the marketplace, that's what makes America go; not a government that tries to pick investments, and guide the market for us."

What an interesting choice of misleading words. Because whether he likes it or not, if Obama "doesn't understand" free people in a free market, then Romney "doesn't understand" this, either.

27. Mitt Romney says "redistribution" has "never been a characteristic of America."

Redistribution has always been a characteristic of America.

28. In an ad unveiled by his campaign this week, Romney argues, "Dear Daughter. Welcome to America. Your share of Obama's debt is over $50,000."

That's only true if you attribute Bush's debts to Obama, which is ridiculous.

I have a hard time imagining that this information isn't know by someone and could be released at any point if Obama wants.

Romney is a complete weasel. I saw a link saying Romney would be releasing a summary of his 20 year tax situation. If true, that will be priceless. There are people out there who know the truth and are keeping their mouth shut. When he releases a completely false statement about his taxes, it will be too much to bear and the truth will come up.

I don't think anyone should rule out Obama winning Texas this election.

I've mentioned in other threads that I have risked my sanity by reading a lot of the comments of the frequenters to the various RW "news" sites. The "I hate Obama, he must be removed" posts outnumber "Romney is a great candidate and will do a million times better job than Obama" posts by a factor of about 1000 to 1.

So I honestly question Mitt ROmney's decision to run. It seems monstrously selfish given his wife's condition

Well, he IS monstrously selfish.

That is what this is about.

And we've sure learned that Presidents who are in it to one-up the old man are the best kind!

In Colorado, there have been a lot of Romney signs along the highways and rural roads. Not many Romney stickers on cars, though.
