Ultra Fark FTFA: "It's also the second time this season the defense has supplied all of the Broncos' touchdowns as the offense struggles to find a rhythm in the wake of quarterback Kellen Moore's departure. In opener, safety Jeremy Ioane returned an interception for a score in a 17-13 loss at Michigan State"

The Defensive Lineman who returned the interception, Michael Atkinson, is from Canada

When he was recruited fans online nicknamed him Canadian Bacon, or Bacon for short. He has always been a fan favorite. He is finally coming into his own.

All over the Boise region people were yelling "Go Bacon" at the tv screen when he caught that ball.

BYU going for a 2 point conversion didn't make any sense.

It was pretty ugly, but thank to a decent defense we hung on.

The offense have some bright spots but they are inconsistent and are absolutely terrible at sustaing any type of drive. At least we get a few cupcakes to maybe get some of the offensive kinks worked out.

/Though it was hilarious to watch Canadian Bacon rumble for the touchdown.

They had just marched down the field for a touchdown, only time in the game that their offense had any momentum. I'm sure emotionally, they thought they could do it.

You are seeing my argument for why they dont belong first hand, sure they have a good starting core of players but once you get past that they have a severe drop off, that is why I always said that if they played in a harder conference they wouldnt finish undefeated since they would lose two or three key players over the course of the year. Once that happens they dont have the depth to just snap right back which is why you see a downturn in their wins after they lose those players.

When did I say that they 'belong' (what ever the hell that that means anyway) this year? They are just about where they should be. You point was that they have always sucked. Which got you rightfully laughed at.

However, if they do find finally pull together on offense they could be a pretty decent team by years end. Likely not top 10 like they have been in the past few years but top 20 or 15. We will see. They have some work to do.

Oh and how is this looking? I even have a bet with headlever(I think) that if Boise wins 7 or more I will quit posting in cfb threads.

I know. The other team has not scored on offense all night, so with three and a half minutes to go in regulation you decide you need to get the lead now? Bad coaching call whether they got it or not. BYU's season is now a big turd.

They keep that kid from Pocatello in and they may see things change. BYU has the defense, they just need to find some offensese. They can still make some waves with Notre Dame and Georgia Tech on the schedule.

Though they are facing a trap game with Utah State.

One of the worst collegiate coaching decisions I have ever seen, and I am old. If ANYTHING, BYU had just figured out a way to move the ball, and that should make them MORE likely to kick the PAT. And as stated above, it was anything but a foregone conclusion that BSU would score when they got the ball. It's not like BYU recovered a fumble on the 3 yard line after 14 consecutive 3-and-outs.

I haven't seen a coaching decision that bad in NCAA football since the Oklahoma-Florida national championship game where Stoops, with a hurt running back, and Heisman winning throwing QB decided, you know what, let's run the ball 4 times in a row up the middle on goal-to-go.

I was tracking the game online last night and at some point someone said on BYU's sports twitter feed "So this is what an SEC game is like" and as a hardcore Boise State fan even I face palmed at this.

I have never said they always sucked, what I said was in a real conference they would be a .500 team, hell thats better than the mississppi schools and vandy most years, that is what is meant by belong in the NCG, its a fact you, whiteraven, and a quite a few others just dont get. They are thin at most positions and have been lucky no one got hurt the past few years, that is why they have a year or two down because they have no one to take their star players but can still get to 6 wins in a shiat conference like the MWC. Do boise supporters still fail to recognize this or are they always that dense?

HeadLever: Oh and how is this looking? I even have a bet with headlever(I think) that if Boise wins 7 or more I will quit posting in cfb threads.

Yeah I didnt see the post you were referring to but I am pretty sure it was if they joined the big east this year, which didnt happen and I am not sure they will join them since that playoff shiat is starting up and there is no incentive for them to join now, I dont think they have even paid to leave the MWC yet.

Ahhhh now I found it, geez I get post happy when out drinking and watching football, need to turn off the phone those nights.

But it was in reference to boise joining a real conference and not the home of the cupcakes conference.

Anybody going to complement the nose guard on the pick 6? That was the best I've ever seen by a lineman. No bobbling the ball. No "oh look what I found". No "OMG I got the ball now what?"

He drifted back after faking the rush, went high for the all hands catch, then tucked the ball and slowed down only to high step through a tackle. I hope he had a good fat guy touchdown dance to go with that.

Oh Im not, it was always in reference to being in a real conference, I even agreed to take the big Least as a real conference even though they suck but are better than mwc/cusa/wac most years, its why I upped it to 7 wins, I dont think boise would get above 5 or 6 wins at the most in big 10/12/pac 12/sec.

Join a real conference and win then I will shut up, I even have a bet with headlever(I think) that if Boise wins 7 or more I will quit posting in cfb threads. Hell I don't think they would finish above .500 even in the ACC or big Least.

There is no backtracking there, its always been about joining a decent conference, my real feelings say they finish .500 or worse but emotions can trick so thats why I said 7 wins, its just like your emotions say boise would dominate the big least or ACC, that just wont happen, the players are bigger, faster, and stronger than the MWC.

And come on really, anyone who has been on fark for more than 2 years has a fark alt with the ban happy mods around here, hell I got a vacation for posting "yawn" in a soccer thread once and then for referring to a group of people as "idiots" was classified as attacking a poster.

You play for the tie at home and you play for the win on the road. It's not like it's some weird thing that he just went crazy on.

/though given Boise State's lack of confidence in their kicker after one miss, I'd say you probably should go for the tie

You aren't going for a tie or a win with three and a half minutes left. There is still a bit of game left to be played. If that were the last play of the game or there were only a few seconds left, I would agree that it wasn't a terrible call...but by your logic if you are on the road and down 7-6 in the 2nd qtr, you should go for 2 to get the lead.

Boise wasn't really moving the ball. There is a good chance BYU could have gotten the ball back with around two minutes on the clock which would have given them there chance to "go for the win" then.

I think any non-partisan would agree that Boise plays a weak conference schedule and, if magically dropped into a power conference without the benefit of years of being able to recruit from its talent pool, would struggle to win 7 or 8 games (as Utah showed last year and TCU will likely show this year).

That said, there are no rules for who "belongs" in the national championship. Alabama won a national championship by beating a team it had already lost to that had a superior strength of schedule. Auburn won a national championship with the 60th-ranked defense. Ohio State won a national championship with the 70th-ranked offense against a team with the 7th-ranked defense. Boise, at their best, proved they could beat 10-win or better teams from the Pac-10, Big 12, ACC, and SEC. Try to forgive the people who, tired of seeing the same dozen or so teams in the national championship every year, often to disappointing results, wouldn't mind seeing Hoosiers play out on the gridiron.

It was not even the fact that we never made it to the NC game. In Kellen's 50-3 tenure, we were invited once to a big mony BCS bowl and had the 'privledge' of playing the likes of Utah or a 6-6 Arizona State instead. Just the opportunity to play a decent top 15 team would have really been nice.

I missed the "offensive" part, and was trying to make sense out of the score. I thought they had somehow gained 2 Safeties and a FG. Totally threw me for a minute.

I think you will be shocked at who will beat them, again you are forgetting my biggest issue with their schedule is they never have to worry about playing short handed due to injuries because of their soft schedule. And to be honest, I was probably drunk when I said that they wouldnt win many games in what is a depleted big east and is easily the worst out of the bcs conferences.

Thats my point, they dont have the depth to challenge in a real conference and I dont feel they deserve to get a NCG shot since their schedule is filled with teams that people call cupcakes when bcs conferences play those same teams, I think most of big conferences got pissed once BYU won a NC by playing a shiat team laden schedule then beating a shiatty michigan team in the holiday bowl.

Its only disappointing to people who consistently lose, boise may be able to hang with depleted teams or teams that were over rated the entire year but in a full year schedule they lose 5-6 with that team.

I strongly believe that this is one of the factors that led to the formation of the original BCS series, AQ, non-AQ, etc. A desire by the big conferences to prevent someone "unworthy" from winning a NC again.

Have you seen their 1984 schedule? The best team they played during the regular season was Pittsburgh the year after Marino left, a team that had 7 losses and then beat a shiatty .500 michigan team in the holiday bowl.

I was only 18 years old then. Most of their games were not on National TV. I was in the Navy at the time and I think the Holiday Bowl was the only game I saw. Michigan was ranked #7, I believe, prior to that game.

I am not arguing whether they deserved it or not. I am just suggesting that this was one of the events that caused the big conferences to develop a way to crown their own national champion

Prior to the BCS, remember there were several different organizations that Crowned their own football champion based on their own Poll.

BYU was crowned National Champion by the Associated Press, based on a poll of sports writers, and by the Coach's Poll. In the parlance of the time, they were a "consensus champion".
There were many years where there were split championships with each of those organizations crowning their own National Champion.

For that matter, there is no reason, even today, that we couldn't do a Fark Poll and crown our own Fark College Football National Champion of College Football and give the winning team a trophy to take home.

No, that was a stipulation that the MWC gave to Boise to allow them to join. They can wear whatever they want for non-conference home games.

Michigan was not ranked at all when they played and only jumped to number 2 because they played and beat a preseason number 1 miami who was only there because they won the NC in 83, that team ended up with 5 losses and lost 3 straight to close out the season.

That michigan team was unranked the last half of the seasong, then ended up 6-6 and lost every other game against ranked opponents. I will say that the only reason michigan was there was because none of the other top teams would play them and mess up their traditional bowl games, which I think is part of the reason a lot of writers voted byu number 1 even though they didnt deserve it.

Yeah I remember all the other polls but most only looked at two, AP and coaches. I think the BYU NC was the start of the process to weed lesser teams out but I think the big catalyst was the 1990 NC where it was split between GT/Colorado where most people think colorado didnt even deserve it since they had one loss already and got the benefit of a 5th down play against Missouri in a game they would have lost without refs interference.
