because most people forget to SING as part of daily living
and we need musicals to remind us
that we aren't the worst SINGERS in the WORLD

I think if I were a gay man in Uganda, #1 on my life priority list would be "Get the fark out of Uganda", and then "Produce gay-themed play" would follow later on the list. The order here is crucial.

Dude isn't even from Uganda.

Don't know if he has lots of balls or stupid.

After re-reading the headline I withdraw my comment questioning how someone makes "gay-themed" porn rather than just gay porn. But it's a play. Either way, Uganda sucks.

Yeah....I DNRTFA before posting (fer shame)...I think the point still kind of stands, though. On one hand, it's very courageous of him. On the other, I'm not sure how much good it would do in a place like Uganda where homophobia is just one of *many* entrenched problems.

I'm kinda skeptical if he would have been jailed for a musical. Consider musicals are usually lighter than plays. Like MacBeth..

// Begin CSB

Interestingly enough, the subby unknowingly used two euphemisms for "homosexual" in his title and likely didn't even realize it.

In the early parts of the 20th century the term "musical" was used to describe homosexuals.

// End CSB

Sadly there are those in the U.S. who would like to be able to throw people in jail for producing gay-themed plays, or even just for being gay.

Because its one of the most popular forms of entertainment on planet earth. And one of the few investments that can literally turn $5000 into $50 million in a very short time.

It also generates an absurd amount of revenue for cities. The 42 broadway theaters alone (only a portion of which has musicals) generate more money for the city than all of the major sports teams combined.

Last there is always going to be people who "get" and love musicals.

Sounds like you are trying to impose your values on others. Obama in 2009 said this was bad.

I thought sanctions were bad and only hurt people who need the assitance not the ones who make the rules. At least that is what the left told us abut Iraq

Maybe what you are saying is sancitons aganist brutal dictatorships are bad but sanctions against countries who have laws against the buttsecks are good?

Nice set of priorities.
