Prosecutors and witnesses described how sons pulled their father out of bed and chopped off his beard in the moonlight and how women surrounded their mother-in-law and cut off two feet of her hair, taking it down to the scalp in some places.

Amish people are nuts and I have no idea why they continue to be portrayed as docile and harmless by the media and Hollywood.

Family Guy's Amish were a lot more realistic than Witness's...

Sorias: Amish gang violence....it truly is the end of days.

The Amish always use the mob rule to police their communities. If you do things against their moral code you will be shunned by the entire community and exiled.

All 15 of the 66-year-old's followers were convicted of at least one charge in addition to conspiracy, Reuters reported. They each face a minimum of 210 months in prison; sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 24.

Ouch. That's 17 1/2 years for cutting something that grows back, folks.

Steady there, chief. Not saying what happened was right on any level or should be dismissed as belief in wood nymphs, just saying that at the end of the day I'm not entirely convinced that the punishment fits the crime. These people weren't permanently disfigured with acid, or had their sex organs removed with a steak knife.

But I will say this much: if you don't think that God understands that your hair is a bit short through no fault of your own, and that your faith is as strong as ever, maybe you are not giving God enough credit.

Replace 'hair cutting' with 'assault and battery' and the sentence makes more sense. They didn't just sneak up on people and snip a little hair off as a prank, these guys were attacking people and deliberately disfiguring them (however temporarily), and have shown no remorse for it.

Forgot to add, you also have to consider the religious aspect of the crime. The hair cutting wasn't just a random thing they were doing, it was specifically because of the religious significance of the long hair (I know you and I find it silly, but that's completely beside the point, it's serious to them).

Yeah it's totally stupid. There are people that put up crosses showing the torture and death of a man which seems equally stupid to me, but others would have an issue if I wrote graffiti all over them.

We all have things that we'd be pissed off about if someone disrespected it. Even you.
