When you only have a couple of fans left, I suppose you have to take care of them.

If he were really cool, they would have been invited to come in and play catch on the field.

Well, I'm sure thats against some pretty strict rules.  There was a player a couple of weeks back that was playing catch with a fan in the stands.

The real story here is that a Rays infielder caught the ball.

2012-09-21 12:25:09 PM
Apparently the fan can catch a ball coming directly at him. The Tigers should offer him a contract.

Was about to say this.... I think if a season ticket holder tweeted the GM if he'd come wash his car while he was at the game, the GM would be looking for a lackey to find a bucket and brush.

That's pretty damn cool. Alright, Elliot Johnson, you are on my 'fan of player despite the team' list.

That list has 1 player right now, as I just made it up.

Anyone else have players who are cool like this?

Dwight Howard for chilling with that rando old lady for hours.
Nyger Morgan for buying a kite at a shop a fan suggested.
Desean Jackson for helping out the kid suffering from bullies.

/three quick ones off of the top of my head that changed my opinion on players.

Rollins also hung out with someone who tweeted at him, I believe.
Pablo Sandoval will fark just about any remotely good looking girl (with bewbies) who hits him up, too.

I vaguely recall another story like this on Fark earlier in the season. I forget the player though -- someone on the Rockies, maybe?

Nyjer Morgan is a punk in my eyes. He seemed cool and down-to-earth from that, but then he started ripping on Albert Pujols, calling him "Alberta". Not that I'm a huge Pujols fan, but it isn't wise to attract the ire of a legend like that, especially when your name isn't exactly marquee material. Pujols' reply to that was a 2-RBI line drive that had Morgan crashing into the wall and looking like a fool, in a postseason game no-less. Pujols earned a lot of respect from me for shutting Morgan's mouth with his bat.

I did the same thing with Red Sox ownership but instead of playing catch they just threw urine filled water balloons at me.

But you can tell they respected you because Dan Shaughnessy hasn't written anything about how you were doing blow off the Green Monster while simultaneously raping a busload of orphans, so they had no choice but to throw urine filled water ballons at you.

If I owned a boat I'd start a ferry service across that stretch of water and charge $15 per person on game days. Given that these are Rays "fans" I'd probably make $15 in a season.

As an excuse to not get to Rays games, this isn't as bad as the picture suggests. The pic shows traffic going into Tampa from St. Pete. Just outside the top edge of the pic is an offramp and overpass for Kennedy Blvd that leads to downtown Tampa. The interstate narrows to 2-lane before going under the overpass which creates a HUGE bottleneck.
At game time, traffic is headed mostly the other direction on the other bridge and actually flows much better provided you have no other restrictions. It is still wall-to-wall, but not the complete standstill shown in the picture

Agreed... Fans in Tampa are notorious for being lazy. See: bucs fans, and the bucs play IN Tampa. They just don't want to drive ~40 minutes (almost all on interstate, no less). Not that pinellas county fans are much better
