reid's not quite the milquetoast he seems. he can play hardball when he needs to.

Reid's mild-mannered persona seems like a front to me. His claws are sharp (when angered).

I like him when he's angry.

Good for him. Now we'll see if Brown has the balls to show up and get shut down by Warren.

Well, this is nice. Warren seems pretty quick on her feet and should be well prepared. I hope Mr. Brown didn't try to bail because he didn't do his homework, he'll get a nasty ass kicking.

It doesn't matter what actually happens, Fox News will call it a Brown victory - just like the Palin/Biden debates.

If he ditches the debate for other than Senate purposes it is going to do serious and lasting harm to his campaign.

What I caught of the debate (the end) was pathetic. Each had talking points they just kept repeating and repeating. I could be wrong, but I don't think there was a winner.

Warren seemed too defensive and Brown seemed too dickish.

I hope I'm wrong.

No, they're not. It's worse. The man's a mormon biship. He is truly and utterly internalised on the ideas of kindness and forgiveness and niceness that the Mormon church has so thoroughly dispensed. Reid knows there's a time and a place for righteous rebuke, and so the time he uses it, the time he wields it, is when he's been pushed, and the rest of the time, all he uses is that most toxic of religious weapons - intense passive aggression. He didn't need to raise his voice - he didn't need to do tricks on this one. Just... make a simple statement that wasn't about to provide outrage or sound or fury.

It's like boxing fog.

Ha. It's funny. I can't really get into the thought of banging Elizabeth Warren. Every time I think about it I imagine her looking away, as if to some camera, with that expression that asks 'Is this guy serious? Is anyone really this stupid?' as I try to please her.

And the Republicans, being pussies, can't deal with it.

Fixed. I am not delusional enough to think the Dems have even a 1% chance of winning the House but I think the Senate is pretty much a done deal right now. That is incredible because the Dems started with such a structural disadvantage (having to defend so many seats).

Yeah, signs point to a schism between old-school Republicans and teabaggers but I am guessing the moderates go along with the idea that they weren't conservative enough. And the firebaggers will STILL piss me off more because they are so goddamned stupid.

Maybe Romney wants to take Republicans down.

I'm a little buzzed and I was just thinking this - what if Mitt is actually a good guy? What if he got out of business 20 years ago because it made him sick to his stomach? He's already embedded in the GOP, and he can't flip and run as a Dem this year, but he sure as shat can take a lot of money from the derp and sabotage from within. Yeah, he always thought he could do good as a president, but since the right-wing has become so unhinged, he knows he can do far better by taking them out.

Think about it.

He's acting like a plutocrat fat cat that no one can relate too.

His staffer went on fox news to discredit an "over the top" pro Obama ad by saying "well, if they were in Massachusetts (getting the equivalent of Obamacare) they wouldn't have a problem!"

When video of him stating it would be easier if he was latino, he goes in black face in front of a latino audience.

All of a sudden, information is released that his campaign doesn't have money, as they're starting to really trail in the polls, and his staff gets a bonus!

And that's just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

He's probably scared shiatless that he's only trailing by 4% right now.

If this is true, he will get more unhinged, and he will intentionally release tax returns showing 0% taxes paid. And after he loses, he will instantly become sane again.

Fixed. I am not delusional enough to think the Dems have even a 1% chance of winning the House but I think the Senate is pretty much a done deal right now. That is incredible because the Dems started with such a structural disadvantage (having to defend so many seats).

It'd probably have to end up being a Democratic wave election, especially considering how Republicans were mostly in charge of redistricting, but I would say with the way the Presidential and Senate elections are going, there's a decent chance that they could take the house with a razor thin margin. Not a lot of people make predictions because the polling data is so sparse and the races are so many.

Intrade has it at 20%. Given recent party performance on other races, I'd say that's pretty accurate.

That was hilarious. I only watched the last 20 minutes of the debate. I didn't know that Scott Brown had been trying to get out of the debate appearance. When I saw the footage of Harry Reid suspending voting in order for Scott Brown to make the debate, I realized how big of a troll Harry Reid has become. It was farking brilliant. I don't know if Scott was prepared for what Elizabeth Warren brought to the table. Looking forward to the polls next week for this race.

I'm not certain that is true this time. Romney has a history of being a decent speaker, of being an intelligent person, most of his 'foibles' have been from his need to connect to people that hate him (the right wing).

So there is an expectation that he can actually argue his points. It's a question of what points he will argue (his or the ones he has adopted of late) and whether or not he can control himself in a situation like that. He's not an idiot, oddly enough. And I think the expectations are there this time.

impaler: Guntram Shatterhand: Why would he put Paul Ryan as VP in the first place? Why would he back outrageous statements alienating half America's population? Why would he refuse to release his tax statements? There is no logic in Romney's head. At this point, he's doing what 'feels' right, and it's working as well as a number of other Republican policies that have destroyed this nation.

Romney is desperate as hell.

If this was a TV show on AMC I would watch it every week.

Brown looked and sounded unprepared... He talked too fast, got flustered, stumbled over his own words and failed to defend his voting record or show that he is a "moderate independent".

Warren was poised, spoke clearly and calmly and kept to her message that we should judge Brown by his voting record, not by his campaign rhetoric.

Starting to look like Brown was thinking he wasn't going to have to debate last night and didn't prepare especially well. That's telling in and of itself.

He also looked like a petty douche bag going after the native-american crap right out of the gate... No one in the Commonwealth really cares about that nonsense. Not sure why he thought that would be a good approach.

She hammered him on his voting record and effectively reminded the people of Massachusetts the type of politicians the GOP will be putting in leadership spots if they gain control of the Senate.

I don't see how this is anything but a win for Warren. Brown was obviously ill prepared and it showed.

I agree with Nate's analysis that conservatism is taking a hit in general. Americans may have short memories, but it's hard to forget twelve years of Republicans bashing down people, sinking the economy, and then preventing a Democratic president from making it better. The Republicans haven't been sabotaging Obama and America, but also themselves with the belief that they would be given a pass simply because some arbitrary time limit had hit and suddenly there was a new slate.

The Republicans have a shiatload of hubris and contempt going on, and it's going to bite them hard.

snowshovel: Remember, Romney has spent the last year in the primaries debating the the best and brightest that this country has and eventually came out on

Lol.... Riiight. You meant the GOP Primary field? Santorum? Cain? Perry? Bachmann? These people represent the "best and brightest" the country has to offer, in your opinion?

They're certainly the best and brightest the GOP has to offer these days, though... No doubt about that.

And the Republicans, being pussies, can't deal with it.

And wait till you see how Obama trolls Romney in the debates. He will smile sweetly as he twistst the dagger.

Remember, Romney has spent the last year in the primaries debating the the best and brightest that this country has and eventually came out on top.

Satire! Great stuff.

unexplained bacon: snowshovel: Romney has spent the last year in the primaries debating the the best and brightest that this country has

for example?

He was on the stage at the same time with a former Speaker of the house, a current sitting governor, long time senators, and a witch. When was the last time you saw Obama surround himself with that much talent, knowledge, and experience. But I guess he can make an awesome home-brew, so that's something.

snowshovel: Keep believing that. Remember, Romney has spent the last year in the primaries debating the the best and brightest that this country has and eventually came out on top. Obama hasn't had a debate in 4 years. And when he has, he's been against....Biden. They guy who tied against Palin.

+2, you cracked me up and got a few bites. To the amateurs: that's how it's done.

Sabyen91: I don't know why he picked Ryan (thus the giddiness of liberals when he did pick him). I figured the whole campaign would be about Ryan since then but nope, Romney is such a shiatty candidate he has to put the spotlight on his own dumb ass.

He picked Ryan because of Ryan's budget credentials. When people actually looked at the budget proposal Ryan had been throwing up for the past three years, however, that aspect of his character disappeared from the news cycle. Instead, he's now hunky. Look how hunky he is. I bet he works out. I wonder what his body fat percentage is. It's probably 0%. He is such a hunk.

Also, why did Obama bomb the consulate in Libya?

shotglasss: hammettman: Didn't see the debate, but read a lot of the Fark debate thread. Sounds like Warren killed him. I'm sure she could kill him again in the next debate, but I would find it hilarious if Reid somehow managed to keep Brown from showing up.

If Brown's lead continues to grow, he'll try anything. Brown is currently up by 6, and Warren is still ducking the true Native Americans who want to meet with her to help her establish her claims of heritage.

Up by how many, now?

Polling average 46.4 45.4 Warren +1.0

B-b-but... OUR GUY HAD TO .... DEBATE!!!!

Heh... and from the looks of it, he obviously though he wasn't going to have to debate Warren last night.

It's like when you were back in school, and the teacher said "Everyone should be prepared to give their presentation on Friday", and Scotty thought "She's not going to get to everyone, I can probably put it off and finish the project over the weekend." Friday morning, ten minutes to the end of class, and teach says "Up next, Scott, giving his presentation on 'Double Standards: Why No One Gives a Darn About Male Politicians' Old Naked Pictures'."

And Scott just sits there, meekly asks "Can I go to the bathroom?", and tries desperately to stall until the bell.

Started off strong but this is overdoing it. No need to pander to the people too stupid to realize your trolling. It puts off your base.

yeah, because he has the patience and demeanor to do so while romney starts losing his shiat.
and he will just do a half smile and nod, then plot the next public disembowelment of the evening.
i really look forward to them. even the veep ones will be epic because joe..
well, he doesnt give a fark.

I'm hoping Obama traps Rmoney in a logic loop that he can't escape and smoke starts coming out of his ears...

This debate was fixed from the start. Scott Brown wasn't even allowed to bring his truck to the podium with him!

EyeballKid: This debate was fixed from the start. Scott Brown wasn't even allowed to bring his truck to the podium with him!

He mentioned his truck at one point.

Other highlights from Scott Brown:

"I've been fighting for women since I was 6 years old!"
"You didn't build this!"
"Job creators!"
"Stop scarin' wimmin'!"

Yeah, he's a "moderate independent" all right...

I don't really know anything about Scott Brown so I can't say anything about him one way or the other. I do, however, know a little bit about Warren and hope she finds a place where she can do some good, whether it's the seat she's currently running for or not. If she loses, I hope Obama appoints her to something fitting her areas of expertise.

Tried that, the Party of Hell No wouldn't let her in, 'cos they were so busy redefining rape and de-funding NPR and Planned Parenthood, you know, job creation. So she's taking one of their seats. Rather fitting, I'd say, and I hope she makes the lives of all those sorry P'sOS that blocked her a living hell.

invisbob: Reid is a douche bag of the highest order. Right up there is pelosi and Hillary.

The only higher in the scale are.....well......um....that.... Oh yeah... Or president.

/1200 more jobs lost due to Obama EPA regs. (09/19/2012)

Good news though! I can cancel my insurance and SAVE $1500 a year through Obamacare (Paying the Fine Tax)

See here folks? A typical right wing moron. They can't debate the issues because either they know nothing about the issues or, alternately, they know that facts have a liberal bias. Instead what they do is bring in totally unrelated crap that they heard on Rush or some similar fact-free wingnut broadcast. You'll vote for Romney and keep shiatting threads up with stuff that you know absolutely know nothing about. By this point your type isn't even fun any more. It's a chore to have to scroll past your stupid bullshiat.

The first (and so far, only) contribution I've made to a candidate I couldn't vote for was to Elizabeth Warren. Man, I hope she wins.

Yeah, same here... It's nice to be voting for a candidate instead of against another candidate. That's worth a few of my hard-earned dollars, in my book.

MyRandomName: Nice that Reid is working hard on that budget. So hard he can take extra half days. Life was so much easier when candidates like Obama could vote present to avoid the tough choices.

Yeah because the Democrat held senate whom shortened a day is easily comparable to the Republican held congress who have done farking nothing for years.

But you keep living in your echo chamber moron moron moron moron moron ......
