Finally! The drought is over! Though, I finally got to read the Moore/May/Lintott version of the complete history of the Universe (based on Planck time) this week.

Hi Haruko! Hope you are having a better week this week!
Ma's birthday was 'Talk Like A Pirate Day', so I had a severe case of the 'angries' that day. Short of that, I *did* get pumpkin pie today. Also, got some good pics of Dad off the camera (thanks ArmednHammered) that hit me like a brick to even it out. The cat's on there, too, but it's with Dad when he was rather ill, so I have to do some cropping....
Sought a pic, this may do. An Ago fetch by our fave Alien. Home from chorus mgmt tm mtg just in time to see What's Here & seek a G'Night pic. This'd be better for Mon close to threadclose, but saw title on way past to seek above. So you have to put up with it. credit to lajimi, also from Ago. CU in day-lit AM. We both got both our flu shots for season this aternoon, also anti-pneumonia shots which we may never need again. It's the arms with the pneu that ache, mayhap predictably.
an idea was brought that it would be fun to send "welcome to your new home" cards to Mrs. BBBB. I have heard back from many who want in, providing BBBB agreed. He has given his blessing. So, if you want to send a card, contact me ASAP. I say ASAP 'cuz I won't be accessible much longer. I have been looking for a job for a long time, living off a small savings. This month I had to choose what got paid, and the electric bill won, the internet bill lost. so, get in touch by next Fri. to get the address - EIP
Try once more as alternate Good Meowning, fetched in the Ago by That's Just Tacky who does retain a profile. Flier that came yesterday in aid of Horse Appreciation Night in ~a month sponsored by our local SPCA. Truly doubt that we'll go. Fang Q also to Bathia_Mapes for Cat Burglar tale linkie, & in2it for mayor of Halifax. Still wish to view James72's vid linkies.
My sister has been making zucchini bread and she gave me some. Gremie got one sniff and he went nuts. He loves the stuff. I let him have a little until I see if he's going to have any digestive issues with it. He went crazy for strawberries the same way but those didn't agree with him so no more strawberries for Gremie and if I want any I have to stand in the middle of the kitchen or take them outside to eat them.
Last time I regaled you all of the Muggsy chronicles she was having a bit of a... piddle problem. Thankfully after a round of antibiotics and some minor changes to litter box locations and such we have seemed to mostly (emphasis on the mostly) eleviate that issue, and as an added bonus now that she's feeling better she will finally roam our entire apartment (as opposed to hiding in a corner, which she did for the first year or so). I'm still thinking kitteh prozac might be in order, but I'm holding off for now.
Now she gets to enjoy the full range of CatTV options and experiment with which sunbeam works best for her.
No James72, youtube not blocked, just hadn't taken/made time to get there yet. Have now; both are excellent, esp curtain climbing sequences! They may both need their claws cut soon, tho actually rather expect they may climb on that curtain as much as they wish! Because it's such fun for cats! No longer precisely recall where this came from; used to knit more than I do now. Cat's cute, which was sole/sufficient reason for wish to save.
My favorite local cat emporium (MadCat) debuted their new truck at our neighborhood fair/festival last weekend.. it's prettttttttty awesome if I do say so myself:
From BURPS Barbershoppers Urging Repeated Puns as a Sidegroup Digest 1526 submitted by Bill McKiernon: "I thought I saw a purple cat once, but it turned out to be a pigment of my imagination." commercial threadjack: PJ set from Wireless cat-alogue that may no longer be available. Paws-itively Exhausted, in case it can't be read.
May not be altogether a foul one for the High Holy Days & neighbouring: another Bill McKiernon. I thought the Plains of Abraham was the Jewish Airforce An AFN collection pic, brought there by Frank in Hendersonvl NC back in the day.
Silly natterings... Raven has a new friend at work. New resident, LOVES cats and so of course is utterly besotted with Raven. They'll entertain each other with a piece of string for up to an hour at a time, then she'll sit down and watch TV with him. Last week she 'encouraged' him to hit the sack at a REASONABLE hour (bit of an issue here) by simply sauntering down the hall and going into his bedroom. When I came upstairs a few hours later, she was wide awake, snuggled up to him. She's very good at the Sleep RayTM.
***** Had company yesterday when D'Artagnan made his appearance. He seemed very pleased with this. He greeted her, got something to eat, came back and gave her several compliments (head-bump, tail-stroke, and purring). He then stretched his long shiny, slinky self upon the floor and you could almost hear "You may now commence with adoration." He knew when he was either the center of attention (looking at him) or when he was the subject of conversation. Even though we weren't looking directly at him or mentioning him by name he would preen and pose, 'showing off'.
I hope I don't come off condescending to them when telling them what fine, handsome, well-behaved and clever cats they are. I KNOW they understand a lot more than one might think; a lot of their behavior indicates this. You know how sometimes being complimented for something can come off as disrespectful..."Aren't you cute/special/clever for knowing that...and you only a _________!"

I agree with you! I KNOW my kitties understand what I am saying. They just don't always do what I ask. Charlie likes to answer my requests to vacate the kitchen counter with lots of whining and back-talk, but he will eventually jump down.
Home from looong day at work, to be greeted by Eli. He was outside, came and said "Meow!" and then sauntered off to enjoy the fall day. Might have been the best moment of my day!
We haz a new neighborhood roamer, and it and Eli are establishing territory. *sigh* I don't like cat fights! Told Hubby next time he sees the cat to power up the hose and give it a bath. I don't need it whizzing on my garage. I told Eli he'd get the same if I catch him 'decorating' that way! :)
I am more than delighted to rescind my notice that I had a deadline to contact me. I had one wonderful Caturdayer offer to help last night, and another very generous member of our family didn't wait to even hear what I needed, they deposited funds into my PalPay account and my internet will stay up!!! I am beyond flabergasted, I did not request help, I just wanted to let you know I had a deadline coming. The one who jumped in will be paid back, so the money can be used again to help another family member down the road. Gawd, I love this group of people. Now, all who said they wanted BBBB's address will be getting an e-mail tonight. (after I get my tear soaked chin off the floor) Long Live Caturday!!!

valnt9 So happy to hear that someone was able to help you out. I only read about your predicament this morning before I had to shuffle off to work. I keep saying this place is teh awesome.

Well, it is nice to be able to help each other. Even if it is just with a kind word now and then!

valnt9, sri wasn't paying close enough attention earlier today, but good on whoever it was who gave you the crucial help! I did well this AM to ring up the 90yr old former chorusmate whose Significant Birthday we accidentally missed end of Aug. Wl need to fix dinner soon for all concerned, but meanwhile, haven't brought That Pic for akimbotoo yet. Nother Relevant Pic I cd search for. Haven't yet figured out how so many of the Caturday tales come from the DailyMule, whether online or not. Ah! See I type at vy ft of pg 2, with pg 3 where this'll show up just begun (maybe as in "we've only just...")
Intended & forgot , since my attn span's measured in micro millimeters, to thank gremlin1 again for that for this you die barbershopper cat in the white straw hat. Lucky guess, after Search had begun but wasn't needed. Ta dah!
Funny Cat story ok, we've had a "blast" of fall this week. High temps in the upper 60/low 70. Awesome. Great sleeping weather. Except for one night. I went to bed as usual. Ceiling fan on..sheet over me...window open...it got down to 43. Umm...brrr! Any way, Eli hopped into bed, worked his way uuuuppp! to the pillow and demanded to be let under the covers...where he proceeded to keep me awake with his purring and trilling....nice but..gah! shut the motor off already! You're happy.. I get it! Cats are fluid with claws. They expand to fill any available space! And if they don't have enough of it their claws will let you know!

*snert* A virtuoso?
When Baby was still with us her and Jack would do a wonderful duet to Bohemian Rhapsody. Jack would would do the Freddy Mercury parts and Baby would join at the chorus. It's a real shame I never got it on video because it used to crack everybody up.

What a wonderful memory. You know, I think that the things that make us laugh help us to keep a memory alive. I hope when I am old and feeble, I will still be able to replay the shot of my cat Aiko chasing after her potato(an old stocking stuffed with cotton balls and nip) and sliding into the bathtub wall...think galley kitchen into a bath at the end...or when she dropped her toy into my future hubby to be's coffee mug..full of coffee of course...I miss her, but rejoice at her memory!
Saw this earlier in a TFD thread and just had to share it. It still making me giggle like a loon everytime I look at it.
LMAO.. ran one of my crew up the wall.. to the ceiling.. trying to catch that red bug ! ( caught her on the way down.. she 's ok, didn't take that much spackle putty, and I need to paint anyway..)

Bathia_Mapes, I Fang Q as well for the white kitty & the laser .gif. 'S good. Now if I could just spell -- Waxing prehistoric, cat who appreciates the pipes, an oddmind fetch Ago. Chanter's still here somewhere but fear it's Creatively Filed, as so much is.
Ughhh! I agree! I slogged through all four books because I have so many nieces and teenage patients who LOVED them. Bella reminds me so much of one of my nieces, it was pretty distracting.
Feline censors...now in Modern Mode. Still available, "Newsprint censor", "Magazine Moderator" and of course "Internet Interlocutor" Coming soon.."Texting Tabbulator", and the ever popular, "Driving Dervish" guaranteed to keep your mind on the road and not on your phone...it's deevilishly effective!

2 yrs ago, a neighbor passed, and while his body was taken from the house a drum and pipe played him away. Unexpected beauty. We will never forget.

It's Friday Night Football at the local Highschool (1/2 mile west of my house) Tonite the weather conditions are just right because I can hear the speakers and the kick off was 15 minutes ago, half time should be great because if I can hear the announcer now I'll definitely be able to hear the Marching Band. Thank goodness Jack is not a fan of marching bands so he won't be singing along

So glad to hear this! Also glad they are the "good" kind of tears. You are such an integral part of this group - it's hard to imagine Caturday (both this one and the Facebook one) without you.
OlderGuy Thanks! I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I shared this with an author that I regularly email. She always answers. It will be interesting if she "takes" another email from me tonight. One of the unspoken rules is that she doesn't really want a conversation.
Still, I thought it was worth a share.
I am so blessed that I can share my muse with those who appreciate it here on Caturday. If I could not write or sing I think that I would go crazy. So, you know, thanks for reading. :) See, poetry isn't so icky is it?
Oh! Oh! "my" author replied to my poem. She said "Yes". Nice! She has a rescued Dachshund. Bella is her name and she is a 'purse' size dog. She was found running on a busy street and this gal took her in, sent her to the vet, paid for rotten tooth removal, obedience training, and now tours with her dog. Needless to say the dog gets the lion share of attention! I haz such a happie!

Poetry shows an active mind and imagination.. the subject and language tell a great deal about the artist.. big time mood indicator also.. I got shot down at an early age on poetry.. had rhyming down pretty good, selection of words, not so much.. "through the lips and between the gums, look out stomach, here it comes" was not accepted as a proper Grace before dinner.. when you get 'that look' from both parents, you don't repeat the performance... also found out that being bored and having spinach (which I didn't like then) on the plate, ( clean plate rule in effect) and being a kid, can lead to novel ways to dispose of it.. like a big glob of it on the end of a fork and a moderate blow to the tines.. it did stick.. promptly referred to as 'spinach bugs'.. parents were out, older sister was 'babysitting'.. actually on the phone with her boyfriend.. younger brother and sister joined in.. plates were clean, incident was forgotten for the moment.. Dad discovered them the next morning... unhappy times.. also found out that the coloring in spinach soaks into plaster.. Family joke now, wasn't then...
OlderGuy Spinach Bugs! Oh Lol! I can so see that! And as a person with "real" plaster walls, I can definitely see it making an interesting stain! I'll take your spinach if you'll take my beets..ick!
I do enjoy writing, and am just now getting brave enough to share it beyond Caturday and other family members. I think my poem count here is about 140. I think...I have archives from other Caturdites, as well as my own dropped text. Now if I could just learn how to move that to an email, I'd be all set. Did I mention I'm a techno-derp?
Lol! Thanks for the encouragement. It means a great deal to me.

Tigerose, your poems are a staple addition to each edition of Caturday. I truly hope someone has a complete file of all your gifts. A book is definitely warranted. Seriously, we would be at a loss without you.

What I don't understand is why Edward, who is over a century old and has lived through...OK, experienced an amazing amount of societal change STILL has so much teenage angst.

Been reading too long without saying aught. Spinach Bugs will have to move to the Permanent Verbiage List. I've tried to keep up with tigerose's poesy, tho haven't moved any recents into a/the All Verse Alla Time files. Move poesy to an e-mail? Besides copy, open an outgoing message form & paste in? Unless there's something else I'm missing -- Also draw a blank & am surely culturally deprived (or depraved) as I'm not a-tall familiar with the books under discussion that nieces & teenage patients were fond of. Past time for me who doesn't stay up for CADtm anyway to call it a night. Even managed to get a nap this afternoon, which Piiki thought was a marvelous idea. She must like the Product our haircutter person uses, as she was all over my hair biting & tugging. Didn't manage to pull any out, which was good. credit to lysdexic. Could stand to use some of these more widely; know I've fetched this one several times. Am intended to rise at what passes for decent hour which is normally 8ish. Takes me longer to get to keybd & maybe brush Overlords off it. So Gd Night, & Gd Night FM.
Good evening my dear friends ... I have a little bit of good news, and some bad news. Bad news first - it seems that all the additional tests have confirmed the fact that my beloved Dragon is indeed in late stage renal failure. His BUN, creatinine, and phosphorus levels are all extremely elevated, in fact some are almost off the charts. :o(
On the bright side, he seems to be holding his own, his appetite is great and he is still acting quite normal (we just spent 15 minutes playing chase with a baggie tie) ... but I am beginning to see a marked increase in thirst and urination, as well as small periods of what I can only describe as restlessness (which I assume means he is uncomfortable for some reason) in just the last few days.
However, his thyroid levels came back just about normal, which either means his medication is working, or could be a side effect of the CRF. We are slowly weaning him off the meds at this point.
I have already begun to phase in the recommended k/d diet with mixed results. Dry food (mixed 50/50 with his regular stuff to start with) is still up in the air - I have seen him nibbling at it once or twice, he is obviously not thrilled, but I have hopes he will get used to it.
The wet food on the other hand is a total failure as far as I am concerned. It went over about as well as a lead balloon - and don't get me wrong, I really don't blame him - please note that while I really have no interest in eating cat food, some it actually smells good (or at least similar to what it purports to be) - but the k/d stuff has a nasty smell and a rather weird texture ...
I will be starting him on Azodyl in a couple of days (I elected to wait to get a special order of "small capsules" hoping that they will be easier for him to swallow (and for me to administer). Then we will go back in about 5 weeks for yet more tests, and depending on the results, we will add Epakitin (a phosphorus blocker) to his diet (thank ceiling cat THAT is just a powder I can sprinkle on his food).
/ I also want to thank you all once again from the bottom of my heart for all the contributions I have received for my white boy - I honestly admit I could not have afforded the additional tests/special food/medication without you guise! // meanwhile, the fuzzball is wondering when the hell he is gonna get a spicy chicken wing :o)
tigerose:OlderGuy Spinach Bugs!
You can always copy and paste to notepad, that can be emailed as an attachment.. or rewrite it on a word proccessor.. if you rewrite it on notepad, save it before trying to print.. I think you have to save it as a .txt file. I will experiment with it and get back to you with a solution.. If you were to call my brother or sisters and just say 'spinach bugs', they would know that you talked to me, and after the lols, you would get the whole story... my older sister didn't see the 'application', just the aftermath, the next day...thinking back, we were sitting at the breakfast table when my younger sister kicked me and rolled her eyes up.. at that point I was trying to figure out how to leave the table.. Dad finished his coffee and leaned back to stretch.. and looked up.. and then directly at me... jig was definitely up ! we also were served beets..we ate them.. still can't stand them... and no beet shenanigans... the painters had to carve out the stains and replaster..

Glad that Dragon is holding out.. and praying that the medication works.. wonder if the spicy coating on the wings could be an issue .. and if it could have an effect on the medication.... years ago I picked up a can of sardines to try on the cats.. didn't notice that it had jalapinos in it... took three days for the 'effects' to go away.. and a week to find and clean up all of the results... forgiveness took a while also....

It looks like you've got some work on your hands with Dragon's treatment. When I can't get my animals to eat I used to make the wet food into a soup. Mix in a lot of warm water and really thin it out and they usually would drink it right down. It's only a suggestion and it might not work for Dragon or you could just put some hot sauce on his food. Good luck.
I can't really even remember what I just read. I really hope Dragon keeps holding his own!!! **Scritches** to the handsome white boy and **hugs** to sherpa18.
As a side note... It's been about a year (give or take a week or two) since we started Cassie on Glucosamine, and there haven't been any urinary problems at all!!! Quite the difference from being at the vet or giving multitudes of antibiotics to my poor girl all the farking time. Last year we were at the vet at least 7 or 8 times between the urinary and ear mite stuffs. Since we started the Glucosamine, we've gone in once for the well kitteh check and rabies shot. Hooray! I highly recommend trying Glucosamine if it seems like your cat is getting UTIs all the time. Turns out the problem wasn't infections, but inflammation in the bladder that led to infections. W/o fixing the inflammation, the infections just kept popping up. So glad the sainted vet here was able to finally figure out the real problem!
tigerose:OlderGuy Thanks!
I love your gift sweetie! I am so glad it is Friday because I read that other comment of yours as "I can share my mouse". Oh well, at least it is Friday(did I already say that?)
Good evening my dear friends ... I have a little bit of good news, and some bad news.....
Sigh... Well, at least you know for sure now, and it sounds like you've got a good care plan in place for him. Hopefully Dragon will be happy and comfy and his good old self for many days to come.
If only love alone could heal them. He'd for sure be in perfect health then. :(

Ha! When I was 7 or 8 I tried getting rid of nasty over-cooked brussel sprouts by easing them out the window past the screen. Got discovered when a couple didn't fall through the bushes to the ground and were just sitting on top of the bush. After that, I would just swallow a piece of one whole and wash it down with a slug of milk!
Ughhh! I agree! I slogged through all four books because I have so many nieces and teenage patients who LOVED them. Bella reminds me so much of one of my nieces, it was pretty distracting.
What I don't understand is why Edward, who is over a century old and has lived through...OK, experienced an amazing amount of societal change STILL has so much teenage angst.
Oh come on! You KNOW that some guys just never grow up, right? ;D

Hugs to you and dear Dragon! I know you will just take things as they come, but it is still so hard to face the other end of such a loving relationship.

Yeah. Perfect description of a former roommate. My son was more mature at 16 than roommate will be his entire life. Former roommate is firmly tied to momma's apron strings too.

Glad to hear Dragon is hanging in there and stable. Heating up the food a little usually makes it smell more tempting to cats. Or mix a little of his favorite dry food in with it. What brand are you feeding him? Usually vets sell very overpriced Hill's k/d, but Royal Canin makes a kidney diet too. Try a can of it and see if he likes it.

Sending good thoughts and wishing you and Dragon all the best. Don't be surprised about the way the kd cat food went over... seems very few cats appreciate what's 'good for them' in this case. Glad he's not gone off his food...that's a good sign. Don't know what else to say except both of you are in me thoughts with much affection.
**** My stuff (but it does sorta involve cats)... Just got my bi-PAP machine...sorta like a CPAP, only a bit more complicated. (Here comes the cat part). Was recommended to make a sleeve of polar fleece for the corrugated tube to prevent the monsters my owners from chewing on it.
Apparently it is somewhat magnetic to cat's teeth...they just gotta nom on it.
Trying it out for the first time tonight. Would like to be able to wake up in the morning all zippity-do-dah as opposed to "Just five more hours, please".
Bathia_Mapes:How long would you survive after putting one of these on your cat? (large image)
Mine might tolerate it...but I'd have to give them a pretty damn good reason why they should. Even if bribed encouraged with LOTS of 'nip.
Pills, shots, ear ointment, eye drops, trips to the Sainted Vet...they'll put up with that sort of thing because they seem to know that it's for their benefit but they'd have a difficult time understanding (and accepting!) my desire to see them in funny hats merely for shiatzengiggles...

Sherpa, The Princess and I have our paws crossed and are sending good thoughts and best wishes your way.
Hey, good morning, Caturday folk. Do I have a story for you...
It's about her.
My wife has a garden. It started small, but then a spaghetti squash grew out of the compost, and gave us tasty, tasty vegetables, and what started as a small bit of the back yard suddenly changed to a significant portion of our vegetable bill becoming home-grown. Anyway, she went outside on Thursday, and next thing I know, she's knocking at the back door. In her arms, she's cradling a delicate little black kitten, and the thing's purring so loud I can almost hear it through the glass.
So I throw a handful of kibble into a bowl, and some water into another bowl, and take it out to the patio. Set them down, and the wife sets the kitten down... and that's when we noticed an issue. From her "waist" up, the kitten worked. Her back legs, though... they just kinda splayed across the concrete. We were absolutely sure it was a broken leg, and decided pretty quickly that the little fuzzbutt had been hit by a car.
At that point, we had two options. One was to do the "sensible" thing. A crippled kitten that couldn't move... she couldn't really make it in the wild. No one would question if we put her out of her misery. Option two was going to the vet. That would mean spending money for the cost of a vet call, almost guaranteed x-rays, and who knows what else. Any sensible person would have looked at the facts and chosen Option One.
Here's the thing, though- I'm a veteran of Iraq, and thanks to a sniper, I know a bit about a limb not fully working.
Call me sentimental if you will, but I wasn't going to write off a perfectly good cat over a bad peg. We piled into the minivan- that's how typically suburban my life normally is now, I own a Honda minivan- and took the kitten to the local vet clinic. They offer a substantial discount for strays, which is nice. We dropped the kitten off in a comfortable towel, and told them to do what they needed to do. That was Thursday.
On Friday morning, the vet called to give me the news. I assumed, when I saw the number on my Caller ID, that it would be what we all expected. I assumed he'd say that the kitten had a broken back, and putting her down would be humane. The doc sounded amazed when he told me that the X-rays surprised him, and showed no fractures. At that point, he wanted to ask me about the last 4 or 5 days in the cat's life, and I simply said "no", and told him the garden story. The doc speculated about a potential blunt-force trauma to the little girl's back, and I was horrified. Could someone have done this on purpose?
Anyway, the doc asked to do a screen for Feline Lukemia and AIDS, and if either of them were positive, he recommended euthanasia. I agreed to those tests. Well, late yesterday morning, the tests came back, and the kitten was clear. At this point, I had signed up for a pet care credit card, so I figured we had a fifth cat.
And so we did. And 3 of our other 4 cats have sniffed the girl- preliminarily named "Xena the Warrior Kitten"- and accepted her. At least, they didn't hiss.
And then Xena wanted to leave her room. She walked into the master bedroom, and her legs worked much better than they did yesterday.
She has other issues to deal with. She's the youngest of 5, and her big sister, Sif, isn't sure what to think.
And, she has a toddler to futz around with. That's always unpredictable.
But she's home, and she's walking, and she has a place of her own, and that's a win, right? A Forever Home and a family is a pretty good deal for a little girl who managed to drag herself to the garden, isn't it?
Oh, and if any of you fine folk would like to put a huge checkmark in the karma column- because there's something to be said for "helped out a crippled kitten"- we could use a little hand. I start a new job on Monday, but right now, the budget's still kinda tight. Chip-In here. Either way, I hope you enjoyed my happy little story.
[img.photobucket.com image 800x800] Now she gets to enjoy the full range of CatTV options and experiment with which sunbeam works best for her.
I have a cat care question. This Monday my woman and I adopted her aunt's two cats. One a short hair black/white male. No issues with him. The other one is a long haired yellow white male. He has hair that's matted into balls/knots in places. Should I try to comb it out? Cut the matts out ? Is this something I can deal at home or go to a groomer?

If he will let you, I would try the comb/ cut method.. you will have to carefully nibble away at the matts so you don't get skin also...smaller scissors work best.. groomers and vets use clippers to shave the matts off.. if the cat is resistant, probably would be safer for you to go the groomer/vet way... regular brushing will keep problems to a minimum afterwards....
Neighbors moved out about 3-4 weeks ago and left behind their cat. Not sure of sex (kitty gets very affectionate and squirmy in the presence of any human contact), is fully clawed, and is very affectionate. Age might be around 5-6 years old. He is probably about 8-10 pounds and appears to be in good health (They at least left a couple open bags of food for the cat before they left). I just found out about the cat two days ago when the maintenance man for the building told me about it. The cat is still in the old apartment, but I am providing regular food, water, and litter. I have two cats of my own and cannot really house this kitty in my apartment. The owner of the building wants to call animal control, but I asked for a few days to try and find a home for the cat. The apartment should be cleaned up and ready for rental in about a week, and that point it is then try to get him into a no-kill shelter or let animal control take him. If you live in the Chicago area and can take in a kitty or know of someone who can, please contact me at Mock26oohaycom.
Just a question: what is the difference between the k/d food and normal food? Would a raw/all meat diet also work for the kidney problems? It may be easier to get him to eat the raw food or an all meat (without onions) diet than to get him to tolerate the k/d stuff.
Salsa is ready for Ferretday. Everything here at the B4 house is going well. Hoping to finally be done with the downstairs done today and if I have enough energy, get the kids rooms finished tomorrow. Wife will be back here again for another visit tomorrow, and at least this time, it won't be raining. OT found a carpenter for us, and he should be here monday to build a ramp for her up to the door. Next week the plumber will be here to install the new bathtub, and then that should be it for the improvements. The wife had her final surgery on Tuesday, and everything went fine with it. Three more bone spurs were taken care of and she tolerated the surgery well. Back home time is back a week though, but they're just being cautious and making sure there are no signs of trouble from the surgery. She's a little behind in some of her physical therapy, but she's getting there, so everything is still looking up. Now to get moving this morning and get things ready for her to show up tomorrow. Giving up and getting stuff for the grill and seeing if I can work it so she can use it, because she won't leave until she does. Happy Catferretday everyone.
I love caturday! I am allergic to cats, but love them, so it is great to see so many cute pics. Gotta go. my D-O-G is jealous and is singing to my to go out.

Type at vy ft of pg 4, having ariz at last. credit to lysdexic & the late Nikola Tesla, for restoration/preservation of whose lab Wardenclyffe Tower has now raised $1,276,119 of $850K goal, with 8 days left (closes 11:59P PT next Sat). Am almost certain it was late grandmother's. sherpa, of course you didn't wish to hear all that, but better to know than not to. The late Fred received quantities of Epakitin for her failing kidneys. We know Hill's overpriced Rx chow all too well -- diabetic Ginger's been on w/d ever since his urinary issues, no longer recall when that was other than Forever Ago. "Cats Love It" at far end of Bathia_Mapes' linkie -- love to maniac, shred & mangle, more like! & who'd ever buy a lot of a dozen ($2.50 each for 12, fine print) except some deranged pet supply shop owner who thought they could be sold? Quoting I_fling_poo, that's even more of a "for this, you shall die a slow, painful death" look than the cat dressed as a barbershopper picgremlin1 fetched in yesterday. Onward to pg 5 where this'll land.

Me and the Mrs. are off to a party today, it's Barnbash! It's the 5th anniversary of our first date, which was at Barnbash! We're working the gate from noon to 4, so stop on out!
It went over about as well as a lead balloon - and don't get me wrong, I really don't blame him - please note that while I really have no interest in eating cat food, some it actually smells good (or at least similar to what it purports to be) - but the k/d stuff has a nasty smell and a rather weird texture ...

shiat! I was really hoping the initial test was bad. At least it sounds as if he's holding his own, so that's a plus. We're all here to help you with anything you need. Just give him the care he needs.

How did that work? I have a cat that insists on chewing the tubes for my nebulizer. When I use it I have to keep him out of the room.
If you live in the Chicago area and can take in a kitty or know of someone who can, please contact me at Mock26[[nospam-﹫-backwards] image 7x13]oohay[* image 7x13]com.
Thanks!

Next time, Gonz, tell your wife to quit harvesting kittehs too early. She picked this one while it was still green on one end. Put Xena on a window sill for a few days, and she'll ripen just like a tomato. Happy Homecoming to Xena!
Mid_mo_mad_man:I have a cat care question.
You can get a mat rake like this Link which cuts through the tangles and matted clumps. If the cat isn't very cooperative, then going to a groomer that specializes in cats is the best option and worth the price.

You are my hero of the day! Best of luck with Xena, she is one lucky kitty to have wandered to your home. I wish they could all be so lucky.

When we had to start feeding the late, great Barclay diabetic formula food he loved the dry, hated the wet, especially if it was cold (only came in 5.5 oz cans) -- he'd eat the first serving, but not the 2nd. We starting mixing the special food with regular wet food to get him to eat it. I also found that there wasn't that much difference in the nutritional values of the special food and some of the regular brands -- i just had to read all the cans at PetsMart. We figured it was better to get him to eat something that was 90% "like" the special food was better than not eating at all. Find out from the Vet what the critical values are (% of protein may be the most important for kidney issues) and see what you can find.
Irma and Josephine send kitty love to Dragon! {{ =^.^= }}
Limiting fluids Eating a low-protein diet (this may be recommended) Restricting salt, potassium, phosphorous, and other electrolytes Getting enough calories if you are losing weight
Sherpa, you might want to ask your vet what amount of protein is recommended for cats with Dragon's condition if you decide to go home-made diet for him that was mentioned above. Standard home diet for cats is 60% protein, 20% fruits/veggies and 20% grain, if I remember correctly.
Some links I found searching for "cat food homemade kidney disease". Maybe you can find some no-salt hot sauce to dose his food with? He does like it spicy. I hope you find a diet (store bought or home made) he will eat and he feels great for a long time.

When I had to switch Nutmeg to the feline k/d she was not at all interested in the wet food. It would sit for hours in her dish until I would throw it out. Then the vet tech offered me a can of chicken flavored k/d that they got by mistake. She ate it up! After that I always had to be careful when I called in an order to make sure they got the chicken flavor not the regular nasty stuff. Maybe you could ask for a different flavor of the wet and Dragon would decide it is much better.

Pierogi sleeping on top of the ferret cage to protect them from Fred the ghost. Fred is a ghost that has followed me around the country for over 20 years now. Last week when I put the cage in my room to clean out the game room, I looked down and saw Au Jus tearing across the floor with Sake' in hot pursuit. I grabbed her real quick, and took her back to the cage. The door to the cage was wide open and the rest of the ferrets were standing there looking out, but not moving. Any time the cage door opens, they are crawling all over each other to get out. The kids were upstairs cleaning, and they never came downstairs, because I would have heard them, and the cats and ferrets and dog can't get the doors open, so I knew Fred had finally found us again and was making his presence known. He's not scary or evil, he just does things like this to mess with the family. Mom was at the hospital with the wife, so he was all that was left. The kids think it's funny, and I've heard them lecturing him when something in there room has been moved. I've only ever seen him once, and that was the first time he ever made his presence known. Now the cats do what they can to sleep on top of the cage to make sure nothing happens to the ferrets. As if I didn't have enough insanity in my life, now Fred might start playing with the ferrets. He does it again, I'll have to tell him the babies are off limits.

Not a critter but I took this picture from the train. It's north of Seattle but I couldn't even begin to guess which island that might be. There are so many.
Not bad for a little point and shoot camera on a moving train.
mousiebelle:I can't really even remember what I just read.
YAY! So glad to hear good news for your kitty and you! Makes perfect sense in retrospect, but I wouldn't have thought of it at the time. It's awesome when vets use prevention instead of focusing on treatment.
BOOM. Headshot...my head assploding from cuteness. Looks like Raven when she was that age...sweet little black kitten sportin' damn DAGGERS on her feet...
Forgot to offer conga-cats to Gonz & family on taking Xena in. You're Good Folk for doing that. Also apologise to Mock26 for a) being at our limit & b) not living near enough to Chicago to be of any help. Been to other thread that was promised. Someone Else we always watch for appeared there, it's hoped will come here too soon. Not in aid or protest of anything, just tripped over this. Somehow I rather doubt .gifs can be captioned workably, but am not 150%sure. Showed up in Preview like the cartoon: not, cept for verbal placeholder. Credit to the absent but recalled Lar Jorgen.

Might want to put the mask on and fire up the machine for 30-60 minutes before you try to sleep. It's what my specialist suggested and worked well when I first started CPAP so may help you with the BiPAP, too. He suggested put the mask on and do something like read or watch some TV. Then he looked up and saw the strength of my glasses and asked if I could actually read without the glasses on, LOL. Luckily, I can.

FUUU...tried posting a photo again. Nope. Denied. Got an Up Yours message. Again. Fark! All of this just to get out of doing housework, so perhaps it's not all in vain. I'm occupying the couch. Daisy is asleep on my arm and my fingers are slowly falling asleep. She's comfortable, so there's no need to move just yet. She's been snuggling up since I took Dinky home for the day. As for doing nothing goes, today is being a very good day. The dishes are holding down the kitchen counter, the dirty clothes are still tucked in their baskets by the washing machine, and the cat is passed out beside me. The other three are currently busy being unconscious in other parts of the house. All in all, it's a good lazy day.
Lefty...Glad to hear that Muggsy is doing beter :) Hopefully you can keep her off the meds.
sherpa...Damn CRF :( Happy that Dragon is holding his own though. I'm with Domari. Try one of the other CRF canned foods. You can find info on the phosphorous, sodium, and protein for most canned CRF foods here (along with some other good info) (link pops like corm)
Try again, & try not to be distracted! Stuff from AM newspaper -- All in this AM's Cincinnati Enquirer, all Oktoberfest pix by Leigh Taylor. There were also filled-liter-stein-toting contests, but no word on who won that/those. Distraction was Fark ad for Lazy Ramen @ $2.95/pkg, s&h more of course, to right of our screen area. Wonder how Drew's minions think they can sell those for that, when the real stuff's only $.20 each at the grocery? Unless that's commercial associates of Drew's minions?
Au Jus inside the cat tree. Muenster inside the ferret tubes. Fatty Waffles and Sake' avoiding the ferret terrorists. Pierogi thinks he's cute when he sleeps.

Well... Sherpa said Dragon didn't like the k/d food, someone suggested home made, I remembered seeing that humans with chronic kidney problems needed lean protein such as fish or chicken breast, and started looking. That just happened to pop up third in the search results.

How can you sleep with those masks and machines on? I can't sleep with any noise at all, I also don't like anything on my face. I couldn't imagine trying to sleep like that. Do the docs give you meds to help sleep with the machines? Just curious.

When I first started using mine, I felt like I was going to suffocate until the machine kicked in in about a minute. Once the air was flowing, I was fine. Now, I'm used to it. Never took sleep aides to help go to sleep with one.

What kind of jerk hole would leave such a sweetheart. If I weren't at my pet limit, I'd drive on up and give him/her a forever home.
About the only good thing I can really say about the two guys is that they moved out of the building. They were loud, drunken, drug users who often fought with each other. And on more than one occasion one or both of them would pass out with food in the oven and then all the spoke detectors in the hallway would go off. I actually got to know a couple of the local firefighters by their first names! I can only imagine what the poor kitty went through when that happened. Not to defend the scum, but they did appear to take care of the kitty (except, of course, for abandoning them). He is definitely well fed.
Oh wait, there is another good thing I can say about them. They no longer have the kitty. He is so sweet and affectionate that he deserves better than those two balls of scum.
Also, no need for anyone to apologize on being at their cat limit. I, too, am at my limit or I would take him. But, if you are at your limit, can you please check with your friends? I really want to try and get this little guy into a loving, stable home. Thanks a bunch!
Change topic to one near & dear: FuturePastNow entered this onto other Caturday thread, a cat in need of a home in W Cntrl IL.
Speaking of adoption- I don't suppose anyone in West Central Illinois wants a cat?I took one of my cats to the vet the other day for his boring problem (he has a permanently stuffy nose they can't figure out), when I recognized one of the cats they had. Like most small-town vets, they store animals for the local Humane Society, and I recognized this cat because he'd been there the last I had taken my cat in, six month earlier.I asked, and they said no one would adopt him because he was black and an adult. He had a microchip, but his owner didn't want him back. I'd take him, but I'm already over the number of pets my lease allows. He seems like a good boy, but he's been in a cage for months :(His name is Calvin, he's with the Schuyler County Humane Society and is at the Rushville Veterinary Clinic.
Linkie to Schuyler Co Humane Soc declines to go back in. Link Maybe a Bigger Hammer will work -- that looks better. Rushville is where the SCHS is, in what sounds much like an army surplus quonset hut or similar. It's not really close to much, ~100 mi NW of Springfield, also S of Macomb (huh?). I try to fetch notices here from HALO, Helping Animals Find Loving Owners (or Staff) in Belleville IL where Plumbicon's lawyer bro lives. That's south, down E of St Louis. The bro's too busy for pets. he does do a lot of pro bono legal work. & wottheheck is it with folk being reluctant to adopt adult black cats? Well, tuxie, anyway.

Gave up after a couple hours...will try again tomorrow morning when I get home from work. I'm usually wiped out by then, so maybe that will help.
/just got a new mask //trying to bring myself back into compliance ///relearning to breath with the pressure is harder than it was the first time //luckily my kittehs never went after cords of any kind
How can you sleep with those masks and machines on? I can't sleep with any noise at all, I also don't like anything on my face. I couldn't imagine trying to sleep like that. Do the docs give you meds to help sleep with the machines? Just curious.
By the time I was diagnosed with sleep apnea I'd had years of broken sleep: I was so tired that they thought I had narcolepsy at one point because I couldn't get through the afternoon without shutting down at least once (enforced nap, usually for no less than an hour.) First night, the noise was annoying but the body eventually said screw it, sleep now! And I slept through the night for the first time in forever. After that, the body and mind associated the sound with sleeping well so it was less of an issue.
It does make my nightly ritual of daydreaming until I sleep a bit difficult. Unless I daydream I'm sort of paratrooper in an atmosphere that requires breathing apparatus. Not my favorite genre, though ;)
daffy:I love caturday! I am allergic to cats, but love them, so it is great to see so many cute pics. Gotta go. my D-O-G is jealous and is singing to my to go out.

In regards to that article about the tabby stripes gene. Gremie who is obviously a black cat ,when seen in the right light is actually dark brown with darker brown tabby stripes. I've tried to get a photo of it but it doesn't seem to photograph well. It has to be natural sunlight.

Then we will go back in about 5 weeks for yet more tests, and depending on the results, we will add Epakitin (a phosp ...
Here's another vote for the Royal Canin foods. They have me use that for Rocky and she's in kidney failure. They have her on SO but not sure if they would do the same for Dragon or not.

Kudos for taking in a disabled kitty. I to have limbs that don't work well either so I tend to be a softy for the ones who are "problem children" like me :)
daRog, wish to thank you for the .gif posted above here on Lucky Pg 7. Think I may have seen that once but not saved it; now I have! Seem to recall your ID from a while ago, pleased to see you back here. Got a Sr Editing Cat stationed atop the computer mouse, his rightful place hethinx. Not sure where sherpa found this, but he brought it here toward end of Feb this yr. Rather glad he did!
tigerose and akimbotoo, It seems your well wishes and fussing at him worked! The Assh@le just showed up, panting and not wanting to come in! Thank YOU!! : ) he does look the worse for wear, but he's home...

Yippee, yippee, yay, yay!
/to quote a waitress (referring to the cook) responding to my burnt breakfast from some years ago "I'll kill him later, I need him right now"

Seems some of the meds I'm on are why I oughta be using this machine. The mask only goes over the nose (I get claustrophobic and freak out with a 'regular' mask) but I feel I should be climbing into my X-wing fighter once I get everything strapped on. It's surprisingly comfortable after a few minutes and the noise is a 'white noise' which fades into the background very quickly.
It's just the 'push' to finish the exhale that I'm having trouble with. Machine has a 'ramp' setting...pressure goes down to "5" from "7". Don't have any problem with the lower setting, but about 20 minutes later the higher setting automatically kicks in and wakes me back up just enough to be conscious about breathing. Gonna call on Monday and ask about this. I am EAGER to experience the phenomenon of unbroken sleep and feeling fresh and rested when I wake up.
Oh, and (about) a cat... It's OFFICIAL...Raven is now a cyber-kitty! Took her to a cat rescue to have her chip installed and she behaved very well, all things considered... Dog barking in the garage, a BUNCH of curious cats underfoot ("What you gots dere? Anyt'ing I should haz?"), unfamiliar smells and a stick with a HUGE honkin' needle (think it's about a 20-gauge...picture a needle into which you can easily insert a piece of spaghetti).
She cussed, growled, and hissed...but did NOT struggle very much or try to savage anyone. Think I may be forgiven since she got a can of apology gushyfud as soon as we got home.
She's makin' out like a bandit with the gushyfud today... She'll get another one for dinner when we go to work tonight.

had a very long couple weeks. no stable nets at the moment, still picking up a neighbors. should be sleeping but here i am for this. i'm hitting the sack soon. jake and elwood have been staring at our stove all week. yesterday they flushed out a mouse. it ran around and managed to escape them because they'd never seen a real live mouse before. it might have been forced into a corner and died of fright or it might have made it back under the stove. jake was a mean boy, playing with it like the toy that made the same exact noise. i fully expect them to start leaving their rent payments in the kitchen where i won't step on it.

Agree, Simon's Cat's always good. Type at vy ft of Lucky Pg 7 because I can -- at least seems to be, even tho we haven't yet heard if Alex perked up any, do hope so. With double locations this wk, it may be well to sort of alternate what goes where to sign for the night. Habit says here tonight, there tomorrow, mayhap both on Mon. This dates back only to late May this yr, is one of GGracie's. Can at least attempt to do better tomorrow than did earlyish today. On cue, zzzzzzz as this lands on pg 8.

I only wish I could get 18K for one of mine, my best so far was a custom strat I sold for 3,800, took me two weeks to build, a month of paint/cure/clearcoat to finish, my bread and butter is repairs and buying basket cases from ebay/craigslist and refurbing em for sale, the violin in the pic is patterned off of the "Lady Blunt Stradivarius" and is a commission piece, after mats I should clear a grand on it, not too bad

That's Sparky, he and my two house guests from earlier this year own my friend Claudia. These cats are even more spoiled than my girls. When I die I want to come back as one of her cats.
It looks like he just has a cold type virus. XRays were fine (he didn't swallow anything dumb, and there was no fluid in his abdomen (like bernard had)). Bloodwork came back for the most part normal. (No bacterial infection). Vet says I just have to make sure he stays hydrated and doesn't stop eating.
I bought a thermometer and Vaseline on the way back (my friend that is a Vet tech recommended it and wil be over on Monday to show me how to use it on him)
Alex is lethargic today, and not eating like normal.
Heading to he emergency vet as soon as my friend gets here.

very relieved to hear it's nothing too serious. I would try adding some warm water to the gushiefoods to add fluids sneakily. normal cat temp is around 101 so you do have a few degrees to drop before he'll feel better. good luck taking his temp.!!

Yeah, what they said! I would recommend leather work gloves, and wrap him in a towel like a burrito but leaving his bottom end open for business. If you keep the thermometer in a shirt pocket it won't be as "icy" cold. Since he doesn't feel well, it should be a little easier to take his temp but an extra pair of hands to hold him might make it a lot easier. Hugs to all!

Recently saved a whole buncha birthday cards with cats on, not finding any of them. Must all be in other sub-folder.
Muggsy is a grey and white kitty, not tabby.... but since me and the mister moved in together and she acquired 2 new tabby sisters, she has sprouted a patch of stripes in one of the grey spots on her front leg. It actually creeps me out a little..
OHAI and good morning everbody! sorry been absent-ish. on vacation this last week in oceanside ca (just north o' san diego) We been mission visiting and cat napping and farmer marketing. BUT, the biggest treat was the Wild Animal Park yesterday. I will have Real Cheetah pics next week and a few other non cats too. Be Well!!
Happy Birthday, gremilin1! The cats send headbutts. They were going to send a butthead, but I caught them before Dinky went into the FedEx box. He sends eye licks and snuggles.

Juki is the same.. I call him sable instead of black. In the right light he is the most beautiful deep dark brown. He has just a few stripes but you can see them sometimes.
House cleaned and everything ready for the wife to show up in about half an hour. Sunny and 70 today outside, so I need to figure out how to build a quick moat around the grill so she doesn't spend her whole day outside screwing around with that thing. Other than that, everything so far this weekend has gone well and hoping to finally be done with the downstairs and our bedroom by tonight. Happy Sunday everyone.
Wilkommmen zu Hause to Mrs BBBB! reckon now it's safe to send card that was meant to be sent before. Oh Well, later enjoyment, after the deluge. lefttefticle, you mean you didn't know tabby stripes like ginger colouration was contagious? in2it, Fang Q for the vid. LOLmart now offers a SOON T, dark with dark cat & light mouse, if time's not up yet. Second, these: embiggened some for better visibility. Saw doggie one on morning rounds of Greater GoodNetwork to click the buttons of all 8 member sites to give without shelling out (daily habit of 2 rounds). Promoed as new item so won't be on sale for quite a while if ever. $20 + s&h, unless you buy enough to get free s&h (doubt any of those are on right now but they do emerge periodically). Plus a Link to list of critters you may not have known were that endangered. On Care2, predictably.

I'll second the Royal Canin food.. He will most likely reject the wet version but the dry diet is consistant. Juki loves the SO33 Rx food.. If I opened a 6 lbs. bag he would find a way to eat the whole thing in a day (and the hork up hairballs and get dandruff such that he looks covered in snow.) Still it's the Rx food I'd trust.

Sorry for the confusion. She's just here for a few hours today like last weekend. There are still some things she has to accomplish before she can be fully discharged, and we're still looking at another two weeks until she should be out, but the physical therapist wants her to be able to do some more things before signing off on her discharge. She's outside being wheeled around the neighborhood right now and I'm putting things together for the BBQ later. She's got a huge smile on her face, which will probably turn into a scowl when she sees that I'm leaving the grill in the grass. But first it will be ferret time, then the cookout.

Exotic for her is tea with lemon. She's never been a drinker, so no fun drinks there. We have a car port, so I've set up a table with some things on it for her. She's getting terrorized by the ferrets right now, but loving every minute of it. Au Jus keeps trying to burrow under her butt for some reason while the rest are content to either chew on the wheelchair tires or try and climb all over her. Kittehs are spending some time with her, but more content to just enjoy the open windows and sunshine.

The fleas this year are awful, Jack is allergic to fleas and he got them so bad that the poor boy went bald. Nothing more pitiful looking than a malamute mix with only the hair on his head and the hair on his tail. Gremie had no problem with fleas. However the vet switched everybody to Advantage and that seemed to work for Jack since he grew his hair back.
Wife is on the way back to the hospital. She did pretty well today. Ferrets were a little overzealous with her and she got a couple of scratches on her legs, but nothing major and they were cleaned quickly. Let her hold the cast iron campfire pie holder and make her own for dessert, but she still wanted to handle the steaks and potatoes. Kittehs spent a little time with her, but were more interested in what was going on outside. Dog just sat under the tree and eyed the steaks. She was pretty tired by the time we loaded her in the van and I'm sure that she was asleep long before she got to the hospital. Now it's time to get everything put away, get the kids settled and ready for school tomorrow, and sit on the couch, drink a little wine and decompress for a couple of hours before calling it a night. Still have to let the little terrorists out here shortly, but hopefully they'll be tired from their conquest of mom. They usually don't play much at night, but we'll see. Have a great night everyone and I'll see you all again tomorrow or next Caturday.
I'm here....lurking mostly. Feeling a bit stressed out this week so I'm not in much of a posting mood.
Hug! Stressed is no place to be, but I am glad that you decided to delurk. I hope that whatever is making you nuts gets resolved. In the mean time, I am making bananna bread. Shall I save you a slice?
Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy I am glad to hear that the day went well. It must be tremendously hard for you to see your wife in a wheelchair. I know you have to keep your chin up for the kids/wife, but if you ever need to howl at the moon, I am sure there are several ears/eyes available here among the Caturday Family!
Now. The thing I gotta ask..Are the ferrets using their wheelchair bag?? :)
micromedic, that doesn't look like a ComfyConeTM on Carl. Looks plastic & solid, tho shorter than usual. valnt9 & professional_vampire, many may have been at dinner or watching only netwk news that was on. Know we were. BBBB, glad to hear today's visit went well. Will time card's leaving here to get there at a roughly appropriate time. Quite sad tale on today's page I tripped over on way here. Woman sent her 8yr old cat for flea bath, vet mistakenly euthanised her. Son found out when he went to collect 1st cat, then bring 2d one. Something even suing for malpractise won't help. Could weep, both for her & the cat sent to the Bridge before her time, but that won't help either. Ago pic brought from ICHC by Sister Hand Grenade of Quiet Reflection. Woot huzzah, profile's still up!
And finally, I am here! Heehee! Finished with dinner, which was pork chops in Korean Bolgolki sauce,, yellow rice and heritage green beans. Yum! Followed by leftover chocolate birfday cake...
Lurking, reading both threads, experimenting, made pumpkin bread, a bit of cleaning, trying not to overexert and make the bronchitis worse. Dayle is visiting the mother-in-law.

A slice of banana bread sounds good! I have a sweet Biscuit to share as well. /GAD is acting up again, not too bad though...and just when I thought I had it beat. Biscuit is helping me through it by demanding all my attention.
Need to start/resume making notes for self. Alex is lethargic today, and not eating like normal.
Heading to he emergency vet as soon as my friend gets here.
Sh*t! Please keep us posted!
Bathia_Mapes: Hope Alex is okay.
OlderGuy: Good luck and best wishes..
tigerose: Sending good thoughts your way.
He has a fever. 105.3
I bought a thermometer and Vaseline on the way back (my friend that is a Vet tech recommended it and wil be over on Monday to show me how to use it on him)
Glad to hear Alex is going to be ok. George had something like that too, temp was real high. Had an upper respiratory infection. He was on antibiotics for about 2 weeks but the little ingrate is back to his old self.
As for the thermometer, I hope you bought some gauze pads and Neosporin as well :p
I also have been lurking. Been a rather busy week, so today is mandatory chill out and recharge day. Am slowly getting up to speed though (however oxymoronic that phrase might be). Hope to come join in a bit later.

Sorry your baby is sick but glad to hear that he will be ok :)
valnt9:tigerose: Everytime Eli goes out today in rains within 5 mins!! Poor cat!
Hey, does anyone know if fleas can become resistant to a particular treatment? The reason I ask is that even though Eli gets Revolution once a month..and he is due again soon..he is still itchy twitchy! And he has dander on his back...
the resident fleas here laughed at the Frontline this time and don't seem to mind the DE powder I coated the house with.
Didn't have good hard freezes last winter, which kill off the bugs, etc.. this year has seen large problems with fleas, ticks, mosquitos, and other undesirables.. hope we get a good winter to kill 'em all off...

Using as in sleeping in it, no. Using it as a toy, yes. Muenster has decided it is hers and when they come out to play, she grabs it and runs off with it to some corner of the house and leave it. Then a few minutes later she'll take it to some other part of the house. They're all like that with toys. They all have toys that are theirs and if one of the other ferrets plays with it, then they fight. But for the most part, they all respect each other's toys and stick only to their own. Never seen pets not only that territorial about toys, but that all of them have their own and usually they don't mess with each other's. I tried to put it in the cage for them to sleep in, but Muenster threw a hissy fit with all the others who tried to sleep in it. Toys are not allowed in the cage because they all flip out if something other than the litter boxes, food and water, and bedding is in the cage, they all lose it. Just another strange thing that seems to be ferret only. Maybe that's why their all terrorists.
NASCAR, laundry, house stuff, fixed the neighbor's lawnmower and his son's bike ( got an Awesome BBQ sandwich for that).. let Stretch ( the babymomma) mingle with the crew.. lots of growls, no fights.. she wants OUT... got a farmer friend, going to check and see if he needs a barn cat.. she is definitely unhappy being inside...
It's been cooling off around here the last few days. As a general rule, I don't like to turn the heat on before my birthday, but I don't always get to do that.
Kay may disagree with me on this one. He did this by himself last night.
yobbery Squee! fresh Biscuit! I will save you a piece of bread.
Oh man, if all us Caturdites ever got together for noms we would have to roll away from the table! Such good cooks! And Someone works at a microbrewery...I am sure we could drink his share! :)
Been a weird week. Looking forward to a fresh one!

Smart cat.. my crew will pile up.. the colder it is, the bigger the pile.. got to be below 60 outside before the heat will kick in.. Dinky likes to get under the covers when it's cold.. unfortunately Hills c/d Prescription/ bladder control has a 'side effect'.. which is audible... and noxious.... am working to break that habit....
Our temps went down to 40 last night. Brr! Eli was a major furry Limpet last night. Hubby turned the heat on this morning. Which was good, because when I went to mass this morning I saw my breath! How did we go from 90's a few weeks ago to cold temps.

Farmhouse Pumpkin is coming out 10/6, last year it was selling out as soon as it was kegged.. Gingerbread Stout will come out in November... Sam Adams is trying to copy it.. and we have a photo of him holding a bottle of ours.... these guys are doing things with beer that I never thought of.. and so far, they have a perfect track record !.. have new 80 bbl ( 2480 gal.) fermenters coming in around Nov. /Dec... I am installing the new chiller system for them now...

I like to hold off on the pellet stove til Columbus Day weekend. Alas, Mrs. Buck needed it cranked for a couple hours last Friday night just to take the chill off.
Vanishment of fotos to be replaced by line of text causes dissatifaction. They can't all be suitable for CADTM can they? Or mayhap they can -- am glad I snatched the Fasching wigs before they went thataway. sherpa fetched this in on a date unrecorded.

I'm wondering the same myself. We had temperatures last week ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s. Now we're getting temperatures in the low 70s during the day and last night we got down into the upper 30s. Had to use two blankets last night. Not quite cold enough to put on the furnace just yet though.

Same here. I have had to shut the windows at night, getting too cool in the house. I have two litters of young kittens, they can't get cold. Usually I wait until the temp inside the house drops down too low before I have the furnace turned back on. We have little room heaters I can put in the bedroom with the kittens just to keep the chill out of there.
I also have to bring my houseplants back in off the porch before they freeze. I have to keep them in a room away from all the cats who will eat them. Last time cats got into a jade plant they threw up for days. Nothing like having 10 pukey cats at once!!

Fotos returning, just a foible it seems. Now not quite as grumpy as last time. Code's that was 6 meters long for a 2cm graphic, totally missed! Fetched back the pic I used to say G'Night on t'other thread. But what I intended was like this: ;-p rotate 90 degrees clockwise, please. Time's here for me to crawl off & do like Kay on his own last night. We haven't turned heat on yet; Piiki's not reliable enough for all night, she gets up & wanders off, & there's only one of her. Not yet doing heavier blankets (just single light one) or PJs (within fairly easy reach). credit to slightly_damaged, whose profile I'm fairly sure is still up. This more suitable to temps of last Caturday ... see all y'all in the daylight, try again to get here before need to be elsewhere. Best wishes for a comfy non-raucous Good Night.

Love the pix of big wild cats.
Thanks, my friend and I took those at the Wild Animal Sanctuary. I particularly love the one of the tiger looking at himself in the water. Then he walked very carefully to the end of the pipe, turned around and took a dump right in the water.
Haha - brings back memories of a Caturday thread meltdown (which lasted for weeks if I recall correctly) caused by this pic - the offender has popped up in Caturday from time to time since, as has his significant other - I am sure he remembers what chaos he caused ;-)

Heh.
Your profile is amazing. Required reading here. wOw! it is impressive.
Thanks. I can't take credit for drawing the LC comic, I just found it in an image search one day. I actually made the cane, however. There's about 20 hours of my life I'll never get back. 'Twas worth it, though. Heh.
Type at vy ft of pg 10 to go to 11. Didn't make it here before both other theres, happens too often. Now need to scroll back up & collect what copyings are wished -- also wished to preserve codey for pic so could clone same one into both Caturdays. Fang Q in2it for collected cats on coffee (thought there were more than just 3 of those; others good too). Also predle's from Wildlife Sanctuary. Memory fail at ohnonotfloridaagain's reference; may be reminded by actual pic, it may be hoped.
Also see TPG may've been Otherwise Engaged. See no contest or DXpedition grounds in last month's local club rag. ohnonotfloridaagain's reference to multi-wk melt based on foto at end of linkie musta been before my time. Would Recall had that ever been seen! Brought from ICHC by Bucknpip. Profile still up, 8 cats either pictured or referred to therein. http://FAABirdfControlTechnique.jpg/ sadly didn't save a-tall Back In The Day -- 0 bytes. Need to delete that sometime. Now belatedly need to go Clean Up for long day again.
I am sick to death of this crap and I don't care which of them is being ridiculed. I don't want to hear it anymore and will be avoiding every place that it appears until after the election! I am serious contemplating avoiding my computer and TV until after November 6th

So, my vet got the full bloodtest results from the Emergency vet. The ER Vet didn't mention the Low Hemoglobin levels. If they are accurate, Alex is extremely anemic right now. The vet is coming out to draw more blood and run the test again, since the results could be skewed if the ER didn't take enough blood.

James72, anemia can be anticipated in humons but not nearly as easily in cats. Can Alex stand liver? Better query may be, will Sophia try to nom it all away from him if it's offered? As Threatened Earlier. Had forgotten, last item captioned (for chorus) was done in italix. Not take time to find how to release (is in there somewhere), easier to just capitalise what was going to be italicised. Cd stand to Review Some Music before final remote guest rehearsal this eve. Hope guests can find us -- did remember to put black&white with big arrow real-estate-y fold-out sign into car, like we both forgot last wk.

in2it: my head asplode from the cuteness.
My workday is almost over. I can tell because there's a part of my brain that is screaming "I NO WANNA I NO WANNA STAY HERES NO MORES" and the only way to deal with that biatch is to go to the thread and distract her with shiny pictures of kittehs until it's time to leave for the day. Then it's time for Rancho Gordo, go to Mom & Dad's realm, pick up Dinky, go visit grandparents, then go the fark home so that we can have our regularly scheduled dog vs cats scuffle before passout time. Life of a rock star, I tells ya.

It's odd that the ER vet wouldn't mention that. Lot's of things can cause anemia and hopefully he'll bounce back quickly. Please keep us posted.
Why do I have the feeling that by the time everybody starts posting again I will be in bed? I am so tired it is silly! I worked 8:15-3:15 with a lunch break. Meanwhile there are things I want to do plan, but can't because I am always waiting for" the call"....uff! Midlife crisis here I crash?

It's not the hours it's the stress. It sounds like you had a frustrating day and that would make me tired once I cooled down.
I took Alex to the Emergency Vet again. A different vet this time. Much more personable.
He says that although the Industry says it's completely safe, he has seen this over and over again with kittens about a week after they get their first Rabies Vaccine.
Basically, his immune system ramps itself up for the vaccine, but doesn't calm back down. It ends up attacking itself and the anemia develops.
So, Alex is staying overnight there for IV fluids and immunosuppressants. He will also be on antibiotics on the rare chance that it's a blood parasite (unlikely because Sophia is fine, but still a possiblity). And, they will be running more tests.

You can buy an inexpensive ethernet card to provide an undamaged connection point.. also, the cat 5 plug has a tab on the back that holds the plug in the socket.. new cat 5 jumpers are inexpensive too..

To All who were offended.. A funny picture was posted.. a comment was posted with the intent of being funny.. " Lighten Up, Francis !" I will be just as glad when this mess is over as everyone else.. and I don't even turn my TV on.. ( except for nascar)... I am even getting robocalls on my cell phone... and if I had any idea that the comment would freak people out, I would not have posted it. I think it's lurk time until everyone chills out...
John Buck 41:tigerose: Why do I have the feeling that by the time everybody starts posting again I will be in bed? I am so tired it is silly! I worked 8:15-3:15 with a lunch break. Not that many hours...even if Eli did chastise me when I got home...I like what I do, but I am coming to the conclusion that I am working a full time job with none of the benefits. Meanwhile there are things I want to do plan, but can't because I am always waiting for" the call"....uff! Midlife crisis here I crash?
