My wife and I pay taxes every month. We probably pay about 25K in federal income taxes every year.

I believe in progressive taxation. I believe rich people should pay more than their fair share. I believe in redistribution of wealth. I believe that people who pay into SS their whole life should get money out of SS. I believe that old people who pay into Medicare their whole life should have Medicare. I believe in handouts to people, not corporations. I believe tax money should go to lower and higher education, not to military contractors and wars overseas.

I am the 53%. I'm also the so-called 47%, because I'm voting for Barack Obama this fall. And I believe Mitt Romney can go fark himself.

"Well, first of all this is a campaign about the 100%. And over the last several years, you have seen greater and greater divisiveness in this country. We had hoped to come back together but instead you have seen us pulled apart," he said. "Politics has driven us apart in some respects. So, my campaign is about the 100% in America. And I am concerned about them."

I don't believe you.

how do you plan on dealing with that fact? i'm a random guy online, someone you cannot fire or intimidate or threaten...and I do not believe you. Nor am I alone. lots of other people just like me don't believe you either. In fact, there are more people like me out there every day. people who watch what you say and don't believe you when you say it. we're the ones you need to convince to join you...and we don't believe what you say.

so how do you plan on handling that situation?

I'm gay. He wants to amend the US Constitution to ensure things like my partner not being able to make a home here in the US with me by enshrining my lack of equal rights into the Constitution. His campaign is not about the 100%. fark him.

High five. I consider myself lucky to pay the 25%-ish percent I do in taxes. I Like many of the things my government does and I know we've all got to chip in to pay for them. and just like splitting the cost of the pizzas you order with a group of your friends i understand it's a dick move for the guy knocking down six figures to kick in the same amount as the broke-ass college student

Thus, I'm far more worried about the fact that some of the largest corporations in America, including Exxon-Mobil, paid a net NEGATIVE $3.2 Billion in federal taxes, on a collective $172 billion in profits than I am about knowing that the old guy down the street, who's one of the last WWII vets left to march in our town's 4th of July parade, is getting a "free ride"

He doesn't stand for the 100%, and he doesn't regret a word.

The only thing he regrets is not taking steps to ensure that "the peasants" didn't hear a speech meant only for the ears of the elite.

Meanwhile:

"I know there are some who believe that if you simply take from some and give to others then we'll all be better off. It's known as redistribution," Romney told the crowd. "It's never been a characteristic of America."

I'm a single woman without children who rents. I get no tax deductions.

I pay 25% of my gross salary in federal taxes, 6.2% in FICA tax, 1.45% in Medicare tax, 5.3% in state tax and 6.25% in sales tax.

If my taxes have to go up to keep my fellow citizens from going hungry, homeless, or hopeless, so be it.

I'm in the 53% and I can tell you, we're not all selfish bastards like you, Mitt.

Mitt doesn't pay taxes, or he didn't until 2010. That's why he has to keep his tax records secret.

Oh, I forgot, about 33 or so years ago I was working for a guy who owned a small tariff publishing company. He was a retired ICC lawyer, Frank Hand. Frank paid me the great sum of $4.00 and I paid for my own health insurance, about $100 a month. (I could actually afford to live on that as I grew all my own food and paid 100 a month in rent and my wife was a waitress.) One day, shortly after April 15th (my birthday) he was grousing about taxes. He said "I had to pay $75,000 in income taxes this year." I looked him right eye to right eye and said "I would LOVE to pay $75,000 in taxes." It took him a while to get it, and after his aha moment, he turned and walked away without making a statement.

Ever notice how Obama has said things that are somewhat insulting to various sub-groups? Ever notice how he phrases them?

He doesn't say, "rich people are screwing people out of their ability to live and seek happiness and opportunity". He says things like "I think that in order to fix the tax structure it would be at least fair and apparently more practical to adopt a more progressive scheme." See how that expresses the same end-game sentiment (the rich need to pay more in taxes) but puts it forward as a reasoned, logical argument politely left open to rebuttal and does not actively denigrate the people he's talking about?

Notice how he talks this way even when talking to union workers and 99% protesters?

Obama 2012: Forget agendas, vote for the guy who at least mastered high-school rhetoric and whose mother taught him etiquette before he took up a career in politics.

//I mean, come the fark on. Christ.
//Aware that it's weird that an atheist uses religious curses, but frankly that's half the point of gods: personify natural forces so that you can get angry at them.

Hey, Mitt. My effective federal tax rate on earned income last year was over 21%. I'm doing fine even though my wife and I combined made less in a year than you made in 5 days in 2011. Your tax rate was 14%.

Go fark yourself, Mitt. Your campaign isn't about me because I don't make enough money for you to care about me. And I'm filthy rich compared to the people you outright insulted.

So.. yea... go fark yourself, Mitt.

In public, Romney has to pretend he cares about those who aren't filthy rich like him, but in private, he can just disregard half of America as lazy leeches who should be left to starve.

I'm not sure what Republicans are whinging and moaning about, though... Romney is basically the ideal Republican.

Embrace the sociopath within, Republicans. Own it. It's your true nature.

2012-09-20 02:55:27 PM
100% is a very absolute number. That means Romney's campaign is now also about serial killers, pedophiles, Neo-Nazis, the guy who made that anti-Muslim film, etc. Bold campaign strategy.

2012-09-20 02:56:01 PM
This is what I posted on my FB wall when people were frothing about the whole thing:

"Look, folks, it's not all that hard. If you want a giant military, all the conveniences of a modern court system, roads and ports to get your out-of-season vegetables shipped in, and the benefit of not living in a walled in community with sniper positions to keep the rampaging poors out, and you don't want a deficit, then raise your taxes. I pay taxes, self-employment taxes even, and I'm okay with that. And if a person who makes seven times what I make in a year can't be arsed to pony up some more to protect his greater fiscal stake in the country, well fark him and the horse he rode in on."
