In the name of the Dollar and of the Gun and of the Holy Saint Reagan, we pray.

2012-09-20 10:03:26 AM
No he's not. Reagan had charisma.

2012-09-20 10:05:55 AM
Well, that's their story, so when they re-broadcast Reagan's 80 inauguration this January, Fox News viewer, just shut up and soak it in. Reagan.

Thread over.

Well, Romney's constant flip flopping on everything and inability to remain consistent on any belief could be taken as evidence of Alzheimers .

2012-09-20 10:59:31 AM
That depends. Is Romney in talks with Iran to hold off on settling the nuclear weapon thing until after the election?

ManateeGag: No he's not. Reagan had charisma.

See, that's why I don't think Romney can win. To unseat an incumbent President, you need a combination of two factors: the country must be perceived as going in the wrong direction, and you need a compelling challenger who offers a vision for how to fix things. You certainly had that combination in 1980, though "Reaganomics" was, of course, a pile of bullshiat. You had it in 1992 -- Bill Clinton can charm the pants (literally) off of anyone.

In 2012, you do have the first factor, though the economy does appear to be in a fragile sort of recovery. But you definitely don't have the second. Mitt Romney is an aloof douche who cannot explain in any way why he would be a better President than Barack Obama. All he has are stale attacks, usually based on total lies.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Romney actually has anti-charisma. Charisn'tma, if you will. (coined byTerry Pratchett)

Seriously, the man comes across as intensely - almost comically - unlikeable.

Difficulty: Not everyone is high on coke now

Extra difficulty: 30 years of conservative policy hadn't been discredited as dangerous fantasy in 1980

Fark, I'll never understand the rights complete infatuation with Jimmy Carter. No one is allowed to bring up the President's name from 3 years ago or imply that he had anything to do with the current status of the country, but we can shoehorn in the President from over 30 years ago into every conversation and endlessly talk about his relevance to what's going on today.

2012-09-20 12:03:32 PM
Mitt, I knew of Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan, though he was not a friend of mine, had a charm and style that was evident to anyone who heard him speak. Mitt Romney, you are no Ronald Reagan.

Translation: Romney's going to get his ass kicked...badly.

Reagan would be considered a RINO in today's anti-intellectual, bible pounding, teatard GOP.

More like he had an, as of then, un-exposed bullshiat theory of trickle down economics. Mitt doesn't have the luxury of such naivete from the voting population.

2012-09-20 12:06:14 PM
Mitt may be polite and respectful in real life (as most Mormons tend to be in my experience) but he comes across as a boring, out-of-touch plutocrat with no sense of humor and a stick permanently shoved up his ass.

He does. Kerry was almost as unlikeable, but he didn't have that flustered, confused tone to his voice when challenged on a question. Or asked a question. Or attacking someone. Or the posture of a dog that's been kicked in the balls. Or come out as openly as a blue blooded, poor hating, douchebag.

Likening Romney to Reagan? Ronald Reagan doesn't deserve that abuse.

Because he wore sweaters in the White House instead of burning baby seal blubber to jack the thermostat up to 100 like a true American would.

On Opposite Day, maybe. In the Republican Party, EVERYDAY IS OPPOSITE DAY.

HotWingConspiracy: Difficulty: Not everyone is high on coke now

Extra super BONUS ROUND difficulty: Romney's entire campaign from day one onwards.

Even if he was as charismatic as Reagan, he would have blown all the goodwill by now. He's just that inept.

Mitt Romney IS like Ronald Reagan in the sense that both are craven, greedy losers who have/had never done an honest day's work in either of their lives, so technically Faux News is onto something

I hate to disagree with you here, but to me Mitt comes across as a complete asshat so I can't imagine him being polite. Condescending yes, polite no.

Nice. I like the how you took an old and tired meme and added a modern twist to it, while being factually correct.

That would mean that Romney was actually thinking ahead. He's not, he's in 3rd season of Lost, OMG where to we go now? mode.

Now, now. During WWII, Reagan put on a uniform and starred in a bunch of propaganda movies for the USO, so he technically helped with the war effort. Mittens hightailed it to France when he wasn't picketing in support for Vietnam.

And the right usually does this in the same sentence.

Actually, 2012, is shaping up to be more like 1984, and Rmoney is playing the part of Walter Mondale.

As an old coot who voted in that election Obama is nowhere near as incompetent as Jimmy Carter was and Reagan had more charisma, charm, and common sense in his little finger than Romney has in his entire body. Try to imagine Reagan saying publicly something as stupid as Romney's 47% comment and you can't. Obama is going to take this election in a landslide!

2012-09-20 12:34:47 PM
It would actually be nice to have a republican as sane a as Reagan.
