If they weren't trying to be the Hooters of tire repair, I'd think this was kind of neat, instead it's just kind of sad that they feel that's the only way they can get ahead, and even sadder that they may be right.

So, if a male mechanic applied to work there, and wasn't hired, could he sue for sexual discrimination, or doesn't it work that way?

There's a design firm that had a 'women-only' policy, to contrast the male-dominated area of architecture and construction. They're really creative and can know what they're doing when it comes to being in construction sites.

Of course, I said had, because recently a fellow architect (who just happens to be dating the firm's owner) started working there.

He can sue. He might win, but probably not.

Somehow, I have a feeling that if this was an all male shop that admitted they would refuse to hire a woman mechanic, some organization would find a way to sue them.

If they were dudes, we would be reading an article about them being sued, not being successful.

My parents owned a NAPA store while I was growing up, and when I turned 16, I started working there too. I never fell for the blinker fluid joke, but I had a pilot ask me for prop wash, and I spent a good 15 minutes looking for it.

If they're trying to be the Hooter's of car repair, then they might use the same loophole - classify the employees as "entertainers," at which point aesthetic appearance becomes part of the job requirements.

That's pretty stupid of the owner, because if thing go awry romantically she could easily be sued and may lose her business.

This sounds more like a coincidence that sparked into a running joke between this shop and their nearest competition than an actual intentional attempt to make some sort of statement on gender politics. Story regardless.

I mean, if it had been intentional from the start I imagine the name would be a stupid pun involving something girly rather than the generic one they've got going now.

So... nah, one day the owner of the shop just coincidentally noticed all her employees were female and the pep boys staff was all male, they started poking fun at each other about it (painting the jack pink and so on) and when a reporter showed up offering free publicity on the assumption that this was supposed to be a feminist thing she said, "oh, yeah. Of course. Obviously. That's why all your readers should shop here."

yes as long as he can prove that is why he wasn't hired, same rules women have.

i actually think that isn't a bad idea. Women might trust going to a mechanic whom is female as they figure they won't be ripped off for being a dumb woman.

I guess that's why the guy running the Italian Ice place near me is allowed to hire only 17-year-old girls with big boobs. Not that I'm complaining.

why is this not being done in Cali? It'd probably be more popular there than Texass.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give a little free advert to Carolyn Coquillette, owner and lead technician of this fine establishment:

She's one of the top hybrid specialists in the country. You might remember her from an AlEx commercial a few years ago.

One more reason that setting numerical limits on regulations - without an anti-structuring provision for said regulation - is never a good idea. Someone will take that as an opening to do n-1, as known to those that hire 49 but not 50 or more.

I'd take my car there, but it's stick-shift. So they wouldn't be able to drive it into a bay.
