MrEricSir: The Chinese are allowed freedom of assembly now? Or is this a state-sponsored protest?

State sponsored and in response to the recently filed complaint at the WTO.

Probably the latter. Same thing with their little anti-Japan thing here of late. The Chinese government doesn't seem to care about protests when it's a state position, even to the point where law and order seem to get abandoned.

Important to note that the Chinese government hates Ambassador Locke since the Chinese people like him. Basically he showed up on a commercial flight, carried his own bags through the airport, and bought a coffee with a coupon - all things which made him a stark contrast to Beijing's privileged ruling class. They Chinese government has been trying to discredit him ever since.

On one occasion they made some noise about him being secret with his investments in response to remarks by him for a Chinese official to do the same, leading to a Chinese blogger to post a link to Locke's financial records literately seconds later. It was pretty embarrassing for China's government.

I'm sure this 'protest' was another form of their hard-on for hating Locke.

Snowflake Tubbybottom: Nuke them from space. It's the only way to be sure.

Write off the debt with China. Not only does it penalize business interests that have sided with China, it's a much cleaner way to cause devastation from within China versus a nuclear device.

If things get bad, one can always use the extra cash to develop a SDI-like program.

I was waiting for the first embers of this to show up. As China's economy crumbles (which it inevitably will...and may already be starting), they will inevitably demand payback of debt from the US.

We, of course, will tell them to go f*ck themselves.

Should be entertaining.

JPSimonetti: What do they realistically hope to accomplish? That goes for all the recent upset. I mean, really? Do they expect us to admit fault and sign the country over to them or something?

It's state-sponsored astroturf outrage. Serves two goals: creates a scapegoat for their mounting woes, and said scapegoat provides a unifying common enemy..."unification" being a very key interest for the government of a nation with some history of violent revolution when things turn sour.

Seems like the local police (blue shirted guys) and the local MPs guarding the embassy (brown shirted guys) had it under control. Marines guard the embassy, they don't normally march along the car when he goes to meetings or the coffee shop or wherever he goes in the course of his day.

OK. Allow me to explain my faux pas as it would be cathartic for me and assuage my embarrassment.
The original sentence I had written used the word indignant; however, I changed the sentence structure. At the same time, Google Chrome, which I am using for the first time over IE9 since that new security flaw was made public, let me know that I had misspelled indignant as indignent. (btw, I really dig on this spell checker within the browser.) Because I was not diligent in choosing my spell-check suggestion, I chose indigent instead of indignant. To complete this perfect storm of fail, in my haste to post, I neglected to consider my rewritten sentence structure by replacing the original "indignant" used in the phrase "my son, who was indignant," with "through his indignation."
I hope this explanation comes across as both honest and believable. I would hate to resort to blaming my wife for hijacking my account. Thank you for your time. I feel much better now.

And if you say otherwise, you are racist!..of course

The driver clearly has not been driving in Beijing long, when people get infront of your car, you just keep moving, bump them if necessary soon enough you'll make your way through.
