And what exactly are they going to do with those hundreds of billions of dollars? It's not like they can convert them to RMB.

That's what I say about all the jobs that were exported to China because of "free trade" policies.

Of course I say that about Iraq and the Wall St. bailouts and all the tax cuts we have had since 1980 and corporate welfare and so on.

Was supposed to be in Shanghai this weekend to tour a factory of a Japanese company. Trip was cancelled a few days ago and it sounds like it was a good idea. Bummed, but I don't need to be caught in the middle of rah rah nationalism.

Do they want the McMansions full of Chinese drywall back?

Because they can have them.

Ok, there is however a substantial penalty for early withdrawls.

No refunds. All sales final. (points to sign on counter of nation)

What do they realistically hope to accomplish? That goes for all the recent upset. I mean, really? Do they expect us to admit fault and sign the country over to them or something?

Obviously this is all some sort of diversionary tactic so that they can "play joke" and "put pee pee" in the Coke.

About 400 million screaming Chinamen, at a 1984 exchange rate.

It's like demanding the bank honor your CD before it matures. The bank will laugh at you and have security escort you from the lobby.

People have an odd conception of how this stuff works.

Well, good thing the Ambassador has US expertise assigned to protect him unlike Stevens.
Maybe 0bama learned something from that needless death.

Well, I for one admire the precise response from uniformed authorities. None of this rag-tag hiding behind plexiglass shields whilst advance in a willy-nilly manner. No lobbing of tear gas or random taserings. No sireee Bob! Crisp double time, no-nonsense formation of ranks, rapid intercession where rapid intercession is needed and things are back to business as usual before you know it. I tell you, the New York City PD could learn a thing or two from this video.

Now if only the Chinese would grow a pair and use tanks to run over pedestrians...

Virtue: How much are nukes worth?

Interesting question.

Considering 1 nuke could annihilate a major city, it would probably be worth the assets of the city PLUS the cost of rebuilding and repairing all infrastructure. I'm sure arms dealers would charge a very large risk premium as well.

In addition, the cost of rehabilitating all living things suffering from radiation sickness, testing, cleanup of nuclear fallout, increased security, etc..

OR, if you want to use it as a "bargaining chip" to blackmail a city/country into giving into your demands, it has some value there, too.

What value would anyone place on that?

/If the Politics tab got nuked, then the nuke is worth exactly $0.

Not gonna happen. We have ripped China off pretty well for a very long time and will continue to do so because we have played them for fools. Chumps.

Well, we're just going to keep printing dollars so much that soon those T-Bills they're holding will be worthless.

Probably the latter. Same thing with their little anti-Japan thing here of late. The Chinese government doesn't seem to care about protests when it's a state position, even to the point where law and order seem to get abandoned.

Good thing the Russians need to take us whole or something; definitely makes sense that they would nuke their communist next-door neighbors but not the U.S.

Your comments are insulting to the peaceful nation of China and only further provocation of anti-US and anti-Japanese actions.

Actually, they're the number one foreign holder of American debt. The majority of US debt is held by the American public. We still own the country, but that doesn't mean that we're not stupid for giving any cash at all to those assholes.

It's funny because my six year old just got a remote controlled Sonic race car that lasted 30 seconds before the wheels stopped turning left and right. Through his indigence, asked if it had been made in China. It was. I LOL'd.
