Haha, I was thinking the same thing. The Chinese version of the trailer is probably all "Embark on this epic adventure of finding your true calling in life and always believing in yourself."

Also, what the hell is a Cloud Atlas?

2012-09-20 09:28:09 AM
OK, I totally pictured Isaiah Mustafah narrating that.

2012-09-20 09:28:19 AM
Fine...OCTOBER 19TH!!!

2012-09-20 09:37:01 AM
Kept looking for Tom and Servo in the bottom corner of the trailer.

Dawt.

Added bonus: narrator wasn't nearly as funny as he believed himself to be.

2012-09-20 09:39:28 AM
I'll wait for DVD on this, but I completely agree with the narrator: what the hell's a cloud atlas?

/do clouds even need an atlas?
//they must be hanging out with all those fish with fingers

Did I just get punk'd?

Cloud Atlas is another independent epic being released on October 26th:

Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving.... I can see why they moved the date.

I just watched the six minute long trailer and have no idea what the fark that is supposed to be about. I'm guessing time travel? The only thing I got from it is that everything is connected and Tom Hanks' character has completely, undeniably changed.

I'd rather watch Kungfusplosions.

They got me on the promises of fighting...kissing...ROBOTS!

2012-09-20 10:10:38 AM
OK, which Farker made this. C'mon, out with it. I counted a lot of Farkisms.

This makes me think about some Rhonda Shear Up All Night Kung Fu movie. All I remember is the guy getting kicked out of the monastery he has been toiling at, and of course as he is being kicked out he is fighting using all the techniques he used in his toil. Then when he goes home in shame, someone asked him if he now knows kungfu. He punches the guy flying into the next county and shouts I DO NOT KNOW KUNG FU.

Sometimes I wish I knew the name of this, most times I realize there are probably 300 movies with this exact same scenario.

2012-09-20 10:21:25 AM
awesome. i'm easily amused.

2012-09-20 10:27:21 AM
You bastards, it's going to be at least 9 hours before I'll get a chance to watch whatever the hell this is, stop intriguing me.

This looks like it could be a fake trailer in the movie Idiocracy. Pandering? Oh yes. Funny? Hell yes! Makes me want to see the movie? Yes again!

I read the description on Wikipedia, and the '10 minute standing ovation' at the Toronto film festival did it for me. Those folks are hard to impress. I'll be seeing both films in the theater.
/saw Kung Fu Hustle in the theater.
/saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in theater, wished I'd watched KFH again instead

I haven't been able to get my hands on the novel its based on (the waiting list at my local library is 50 deep), but in the novel there are 5 or 6 stories where its implied the characters in each are reincarnations or otherwise connected to the characters in each other story. In each case, the main character of one of the time periods is viewing or reading the story from the previous time period (in one case its a journal, another it's a series of letters, and another its a film, etc), then gets to the halfway point to find the rest of the story missing - then that character's story starts. Eventually the character in the final era finds the remainder of the story they were following and it works back to the beginning story.
Reviews of the book seem to be mixed between praise and calling it pretentious.

That looks like a pretty cool movie that I have a lot less interest in seeing after that smug trailer. It was beer-commercial levels of pandering.

Got the same exact vibe. But apparently I'm supposed to feel bad that I thought the trailer was funny and that I want to see this movie.

Reminded me of Girl's Costume Warehouse.

For some reason, that reminded me of Gai Daigoji

This looks good but it appears to be missing one key ingredient....asian boobies.

You throw in a couple of those and I will be good to go.

A kung fu movie set to MXC?

It'll get my ten bucks.

It ain't exactly Crippled Masters, but I suppose it'll do.

Read the book about a month ago. The connections between the stories are tenuous at best however each story stands well enough on its own. Can't wait for movie.
