I know right? Ordering a Bloody Mary after noon is just tacky unless you're hungover

"Customers will have to order a drink with their identification card and once the card is accepted, and flagged, they cannot be checked back into the range that day."

Nothing to see here. The only problem people have with this are busy-body soccer moms and effete men.

So, once you've ordered a drink, you won't be allowed to go back on the range? I don't see what the problem is then.

Not a big deal. The local gun range has a family day once a year around here. They end up with the range being filled with everything from .22's you can shoot to a 50 cal machine gun.

Once you spend all your tickets for shooting, you can wander over to the beer tent and get a drink. They stamp your hand so you can't shoot anymore. All very civilized, never any problems. There are always way to many people around who don't want things going south for bad situations to develop. People who get too drunk are quickly escorted out, ass first.

Recall that people who irrationally fear firearms frequently willfully refuse to educate themselves of firearms-related subjects. As such, reality will be of no relevance to their objections, because they are intentionally ignorant of reality.

Doesn't sound like an idea with a huge demand, but...from the view of a social club that serves drinks, they could get some patronage.

There's less risk of people getting drunk and going shooting than there is in normal ranges where people could show up drunk, hide it well, and go shooting.

I learned on QI that some British pubs used to have shooting ranges in them... some in which you shot over the heads of the patrons. They all got banned, however - not for safety reasons, but because people might have been gambling the shooting.

Shhh. Not so loud, GAT_00 and the Gun Grabber Brigade will hear and come charging in explaining why this means we need to ban assault rifles or something.

They're lots of fun.

Plus, no lead leeching into the local water shed!

The Governor's Club in Powder Springs.

Brown told Channel 2's Dave Huddleston the club will be state of the art and have a lounge that serves alcohol.

I think this is dumb only because Powder Springs is a rednecky warren of warehouses 30 miles West of town. They should put it in one of the yuppier parts of town on the North side. Much higher profit potential.

If it keeps the gun nuts on the range instead of out in public "standing their ground", I'm all for it

They just need to add an all-you-can-eat buffet, some big screen TVs, and a bunch of La-Z-Boy recliners.

I'm suprised that subby didn't do a joke about lining up shots.

Our local Bar has an indoor shooting range. Been there since the 60's. Pistols only.

It's nice. No injuries.

2012-09-20 11:43:06 AM
Hell, usually after shooting I go out to lunch/dinner and get a beer anyway. Why not get it all done in one place? Saves me the trouble of driving all over town.

Anybody know where this is? "Local" news stations haven't figured out the internet.

"What did you do this weekend?"

"Went muddin'."

"So you went 4-wheeling down some trails?"

"Nope, just drove back and forth through a mud hole."

"Then what did you do."

"Went shootin'."

"You went hunting?"

"Nope, just shootin' at trees."

"Did you go drinking after?"

"shiat, we were drinking the whole time."

/I actually had this conversation with a very rural friend of mine once.

THIS - I have the same issue, and if they add a grill so you can get some meat grilled and something fried, it would be the best

I don't see a big deal in grabbing a beer after shooting.
Sounds like they have a pretty good system to make sure people don't go back into the range after drinking, too. NIMBY mom sounds like she'd complain if it were just a gun range, or just a bar, or just about anything else.

Frank N Stein: effete men

This is a word Rush Limbaugh popularized for right wingers a while back, as used to insult Obama. Haven't seen it on these forums in a while.
It's great because it sounds like "effeminate" but doesn't actually mean that.

Wonder which meaning you intended here. Decadent? Tired? Sterile?

As long as they're flagging IDs, I don't mind this, but don't pretend there's no attraction to rolling over to the club after having a few, shooting for a while, and then hitting the bar once the buzz starts to wear off.

Were I inclined to mix alcohol and firearms, that's exactly what I would do.

No one's been to a Meat Shoot? Best as I can tell, it requires a couple of beers and shooting at a paper target with a shotgun. The shooter sits at a table outside, puts his shot gun on a resting point, aims, shoots at a target about 10 yards away and then grumbles about the bad ammo. The person with the most pellets in the circle of the target wins some meat.

In spite of the drinking and the local animosity between clans/factions/Ford/Chevy/Dodge owners, no one does anything stupid with a weapon. They are very well disciplined. I was amazed.

2012-09-20 12:05:25 PM
Subby, what's assinine? I fail to see the issue? If they aren't shooting any more and the club has taken measures to ensure there is no shooting after drinking, what's the issue? So what if the members want to hang out and socialize, get a beer just like a 19th hole, where's the problem? ON NOES... HEADLINE WITH GUNS... TAKE THE GUNS!

Nonstory...

Nothing like a good game of drunken sporting clays. It starts off tame enough. Each set is increasingly difficult and ends with the "don't take your blindfold off and wait til you hear the car horn so we can hide" round. Brings new meaning to shooting doubles.

Great fun ...drink, smoke and shoot. If you were smart, not in that order. We were not.

This is no different then the indoor racing we have in Chicago area that servers booze. You get a wrist brace to drive, and while you have it, you can't drink. Once you are done racing, you can sit upstairs watching the track and have a drink.

That's my point, though, this club will be better about that, because while one could already go to an outside bar and get drunk and fake it to get into a shooting range, if one goes the convenient route ("Booze is right here!"), the club won't let them shoot.

So you suppose that the intended meaning? Liking guns = masculine, disliking = feminine? And people wonder why there are so many dick jokes in these threads...
